William Afton, also known as The Purple Guy, later dubbed Springtrap, is the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
He is the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment along with his business partner Henry Emily. However, he was secretly a serial killer who used the Springbonnie suit to lure and kill dozens of children. William Afton would later go onto being imprisoned by a vengeful spirit named Cassidy who happened to be one of his victims.
William Afton was known for being a charming businessman who was incredibly smart and caring. Although this was merely a facade Afton had and was simply a polite mask he wore around others, in reality he was a horrible, cruel and sadistic murderer. William Afton is known for being extremely sadistic as he tortured his own creations by shocking them constantly and his son Micheal mentally by using the Nightmares to scare him and keep him in his room. Furthermore William Afton shows no remorse for his actions in fact he enjoys what he does as he admits to Michael in FFPS that he found it interesting to see what his creations had become and he's obsessed with the idea of immortality. Although it's also possible that he may be suicidal since he knew what Henry's plans but came anyway, however he admits that it's out of curiosity and because he would get to murder more children.
This shows how cunning and intelligent Afton truly is because it shows how he's always one step ahead and constantly plotting. This often leaves his enemies guessing what he's going to do next and Afton loves watching his victims suffer. This is proven when in FNaF AR and in the books when he experiments on his victims and creates the nightmares and tortures children as well as force the player to fear him in FNaF AR. William is very calm, cool and collected; Afton has shown to lose his temper somewhat when his enemies don't fear him as Afton will do everything in his power to torture them mentally before killing them for his own sadistic reasons and frankly he has no problem using it on employees. He does this in one of the books (granted it was by accident, however he didn't mind that it was and relished in the chaos going on).
William Afton is very quiet and doesn't talk very often unless it has to do with his experiments or taunting his victims. Despite Afton loving to watch his victims suffer he also is very cock and enjoy's taunting them, but he quiet when it comes to anything else; despite this he's a master at communicating since he's able to run an entire business. When Afton was asked about his creation Circus Baby he instead of giving the interviews what they wanted, William instead talked about how his creation Baby can dispense balloons and is capable of making ice cream. William has a love for science and enjoys talking about his creations, William has a love for blood as he likes to watch his enemies bleed out and also enjoys starving them to the point of near death. William Afton shows no mercy for his actions or remorse in fact he sometimes dances after killing his victims out of raw sadism. William Afton may have also corrupted his daughter into becoming a killing machine, this would explain her behavior and why she's so sadistic and even enjoys killing her own father Afton.

Super strength- Afton has proven to be able to take about metal robots as a mere human. This is only him as a human so him as a robot should be stronger than this due to his body being made out of metal.
Enhanced durability- due to him being a robot, he should have considerably good durability due to his robotic biology.
High IQ - Afton is highly intelligent and cunning man. His intelligence give him ability to get away with his crimes, and make keen and new plans to his future crimes. He also show as talented businessman, due to be co-founder of Freddy Fazbear Pizzeria and CEO and Chairman of Afton Robotics.

His actual motivation for killing the children is still a mystery, although many people assume he did as part of an experiment to become immortal. But other reasons as to why he may have killed was so that he could bring back his family, this however is just a theory which has been disproved on numerous occasions.
Many people think that Springtrap is possessed but that'snot true. William Afton's corpse itself is in the suit and the corpse is still "alive" but the suit itself is not in his control. This is proven by the fact that Springtrap, unlike his victims, is still bound by the machines code because the springlock suits were programmed to follow audio which is why he is lured by the audio in FNaF 3.
Because of this it proves that springtrap is not possessed unlike his victims which would actually qualify purple guy as a zombie.
Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator implies the latter, as a blueprint reveals the Scooper’s purpose; to transfer remnant, a substance that gives a soul its ability to remain after death, into the animatronics.
Furthermore, a minigame accessed during the Midnight Motorist arcade game features a man depicted by a yellow sprite, who is shown to be abusive to his son. The "yellow man" is speculated by some to be William's father, and Michael and Elizabeth's paternal grandfather, causing some to believe that William's child murders stem from his own abusive childhood at the hands of his father.
Although it is more likely that the Yellow Guy is Afton himself. It is unknown why his sprite was changed from purple to yellow, though it is likely to not have him confused with Michael.
He is the main antagonist of the series. However, he did not appear in FNaF 1, but was referenced in newspapers about the Missing Children's Incident.
In Ultimate Custom Night, William reuses his line "I always come back" after his jumpscare. Ironically, his mechanic involves showing up once per night, so he definitely won't come back.
He is British.
He was arrested in 1985 as he was the prime suspect in the missing children incident. He was released however due to the lack of evidence.
William could have been inspired by:
Aaron Fechter, a engineering entrepreneur who created the Showbiz Pizza Place's animatronics. Scott Cawthon actually met Fechter in person.
This creepypasta, which tells the story of a mascot of Chuck E. Cheese who had severe mental problems and begun thinking that he was the real Chuck E. Cheese. However, he began killing children and using their meat for pizza.
