The Preacher, also known as The Messenger, is a supporting antagonist in the web series The Mandela Catalogue.

Biography

Background

The Alternate had attempted to mimic the appearance of a Nun, heavily implied to work or be related in some way to St. Gabriel Church, however something went wrong in the "assimilation"/shapeshift process, resulting in the Alternate's disguise to be highly unproportional to the actual Nun. Most notably, with a gaping mouth and a gray skin tone. This condition is referred to as an "Overdriven Assimilation" by the USDTP.

The Intruder also heavily implies that the Preacher took an important role in Adam Murray's manipulation, pretending to be a monster in his bedroom.

The Mandela Catalogue Vol. 2

In the Mandela catalogue Vol. 2, after entering in the house, Adam falls unconscious. Then, The Intruder comes out of the basement and calls Adam a fool, claiming that he followed the shepherds and that he should follow its voice instead or less it wakes "the others". It tells Adam to "open his eyes". Immediately, the Preacher appears, whispering to Adam as he sleeps, most probably trying to give him M.A.D (Metaphysical Awareness Disorder).

Appearance

Before being assimilated

Before she was assimilated, the Nun appears to be a Caucasian woman around her late 30s and early 40s who dressed in a standard nun's outfit.

After being assimilated

After the assimilation, the Nun transforms herself in the Messenger, giving her a thin body with pale skin, a long and skeleton-like face, a large, agape mouth, and visible eyes.

Powers and Abilities

• Stealth: the Preacher is a highly stealthy being, as it managed to hide and not be seen by Adam and Jonah for the vast majority of their permanance in the house.
• Shapeshifting: The Preacher maintains its capacity of changing form as it could change the Nun's appearance
• Hivemind: As any other Alternate, the Preacher should have access to the Alternate Hivemind.
  • High Intelligence: The Preacher displays signs of high intelligence.
• Psychological Manipulation: the Preacher can easily manipulate to do what it wants, such like enduce people to kill themselves, although it failed with Adam.

Trivia

• This is the only known Alternate classified as an "Overdriven Assimilator."
• Prior to Volume 2's release, Alex had foreshadowed the existence of the Preacher by posting the famous painting The Scream by Edvard Munch in a similar manner that a woodcut illustration of Noah's Ark was shown to foreshadow Exhibition.
• They are one of the four characters to get a merchandise, despite Cesar's Alternate and The Intruder having plushies and Satan having a figure.
