Steven Jacobs is the overarching antagonist of the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy, being the main antagonist of the 2011 film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Firestorm[]

Steven Jacobs teamed up with a neuroscientist named Amol to create a machine capable of producing images directly from the brain. However, Jacobs was skeptical of the project and took an instant dislike of Koba, the bonobo selected for the experiment. Ultimately, Amol's experiments failed, resulting in a great financial loss for Jacobs, who furiously fired the scientist. Afterwards, Jacobs confronted Koba in his cage, cruelly deriding him as a "stupid, ugly monkey" and claiming that if the choice were his he would put Koba down himself. As a result, Koba developed an intense dislike of Jacobs.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes[]

At some point, Jacobs became the CEO of Gen-Sys Laboratories. Under his supervision, Will Rodman created a brain-repairing drug called "ALZ-112", which was tested on several chimpanzees and worked on a female named Bright Eyes. Jacobs reluctantly gave his called a meeting with the Board Members to hear Will's testimony about the drug. However, Jacobs angrily cut the project's funding after Bright Eyes went berserk, which the humans incorrectly believed to be a side-effect of the drug. He also callously ordered all the other lab apes to be put down to cover up the incident.

Eight years later, Will informed Jacobs that he had created an improved version of the ALZ-112, dubbed "ALZ-113" and asked to test it. Though initially skeptical, Jacobs agreed to allow testing when Will informed him that he had tested the ALZ-112 on his mentally sick father, Charles, and while Charles's disease eventually outran the cure, he had not only recovered at first, but also improved.

In order to test the new drug, Jacobs ordered ten new lab apes to be transported to Gen-Sys. One of those apes was Koba and he was selected by Will and Franklin for the experiment. Recognizing Koba, Jacobs came in to watch the bonobo being experimented on, and briefly mocked Koba by knocking on the room's window and then glaring at him as the bonobo was strapped in for the procedure. However, this proved to be a huge mistake. Just as Koba was being exposed to the gaseous drug, the long-suffering bonobo suddenly tried to attack Jacobs, much to the latter's terror, in the process knocking off Franklin's gas mask. Although the scientists were able to subdue Koba before he could get off the table and Franklin was able to put his mask back on, it was too late, as unknown to them Franklin was infected by the virus.

Later, Jacobs came to watch Koba drawing on a writing computer screen, and was amazed when the bonobo wrote his (Jacobs') name on it. Jacobs was delighted, taking this as a sign that the ALZ-113 was perfect, and thus took no notice of Koba's obviously vicious intentions towards him. Instead of ensuring that Koba's blood-work be analyzed as originally agreed, Jacobs ordered the drug to be tested on more chimps and for the drug to be mass produced. Jacobs quickly made it clear that he only cared about the amount of money the drug could offer, as he ignored Will's warnings that just because the drug worked on apes didn't mean it would work on humans.

Later, Jacobs received a phone call from Will's assistant, Linda, who informed him that Franklin had died as a result of being infected by the 113 drug. However, before Linda could convince Jacobs of the threat the virus posed, Jacobs discovered, to his shock, that the labs had been ransacked by a whole army of apes which were rampaging across the city. Seeking to destroy the apes and cover up the incident to protect his reputation, Jacobs flagged down a San Francisco police helicopter commanded by Police Chief John Hamil, and directed them to attack and attempt to destroy the ape rebellion on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Once the helicopter arrived at the bridge, the apes were already in the process of defeating the police force opposing them. The helicopter began firing on the apes, killing several, until Jacobs spotted a chimp named Caesar, identifying him as the leader, he attempted to have the chopper pilot gun him down. However, a gorilla named Buck sacrificed himself by jumping on the helicopter, causing it to crash on the side of the bridge.

Jacobs was the only survivor of the crash and pleaded for Caesar to help him out of the helicopter. However, Caesar turned his back on Jacobs, leaving Koba to do as he wished with the human, scaring Jacobs, who recognized the angry and vengeful bonobo. Ignoring Jacobs' pleas for mercy, Koba gave the damaged helicopter a push. A frightened and angry Jacobs called him a "stupid monkey" before the helicopter tipped over the side of the bridge, sending the screaming Jacobs plummeting 250 feet below to his death.

Personality[]

Steven Jacobs was an arrogant, ruthless, selfish and greedy man who only cared about money and was willing to do almost anything to get it. Although he was sometimes polite to his employees, he ultimately cared nothing for them. He was also a cruel and sadistic bully, as he was willing to blackmail his employees if they disagreed with him, and he senselessly experimented on many apes, especially Koba, who he also abused verbally.
