~ Scourge to Optimus.
Scourge is the main antagonist of the 2023 science fiction action film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the second installment of the Rebooted Continuity of the Transformers film series. He is a Cybertronian trophy hunter who leads the Terrorcons to serve under Unicron.
In 1994, Scourge learns that Optimus Prime and his Autobots are hiding alongside the Maximals on Earth, so Scourge and his subjects go to the Earth eager to hunt them down, tracing them to Perú, South America to bring his master Unicron to the planet.
He was voiced by Peter Dinklage, who also played Simon Bar Sinister in the 2007 Underdog film adaptation, Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, Captain Gutt in Ice Age: Continental Drift, Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Eddie Plant in Pixels, Roman Lunyov in I Care a Lot and Dean Highbottom in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Scourge is full of malice and sadism, willing to serve the Chaos Bringer despite the fact that his own planet was destroyed by Unicron, probably indicating he has nothing left to go back to, yet was likely humbled enough to accept his master, viewing it as more of an act of nature and a twisted sense of supposed enlightenment and humility.
He enjoys taunting and confusing his opponents show at the sight of him, the thrill of the hunt, and has no qualms about killing innocents such as humans, whom he feels no real prejudice towards, showing only indifference and seeing them as hardly worth his time. He is focused only on the mission given by his master, as well as taking faction insignias of any other Cybertronians he kills (such as Autobots, Decepticons, Wreckers, Cybertron Elite Guards, Cybertronian Mercenaries and Maximals) as another trophy to his collection. Though claiming he loves Optimus' fire, but he mocked the Autobot leader that he is going to die in a speck of dust.
He was shown to not care for his teammates, as he tried to shoot at Bumblebee but didn't cease his attack when he was accidentally shooting at Nightbird nor was saddened by her death or Battletrap's death. He is also arrogant, as he considers himself as "higher power" while he looking down on Optimus as an "inferior being". His merciless nature has led him to hunt down and kill multiple Cybertronians, showing them no mercy. Overall, his arrogance and his power hunger led him to his demise as Optimus brutally killed him by cutting his arms and ripping his head off with his gauntlet blade.

Biography[]
Some millennia ago, the planet-consuming deity known as Unicron sent his army of evil Terrorcons, led by Scourge, his most powerful enforcer, down to the Maximals' home planet to retrieve the Transwarp Key, a device that would allow him to enter other galaxies and devour their planets. Scourge managed to track down the Maximals in a nearby forest and came face-to-face with their previous leader Apelinq. After a brief scuffle with the Maximal, Scourge fatally wounded Apelinq but was too late to stop Optimus Primal and the rest of the Maximals from escaping the planet with the Transwarp Key before Unicron arrived and destroyed their home world. After being reprimanded by his dark master for letting the Maximals get away with the Transwarp Key, Scourge vowed to search the entire universe for the artifact.
Centuries later, in 1994, Scourge lands on Earth, alongside his fellow Terrorcons; Battletrap and Nightbird, after having detected the Transwarp Key's energy signature from a museum in Brooklyn, New York. Upon arriving at the museum, Scourge sends two of his Sweeps to retrieve the key from two humans: Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace. Soon enough, the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, arrive on the scene and a grueling battle ensues, with the Terrorcons proving resistant to damage due to being infused with Unicron's dark energy. Scourge managed to overpower Optimus and kill Bumblebee before taking the latter's Autobot insignia as a trophy. The Terrorcons took the Transwarp Key just before the Maximal Warrior Airazor arrived and drove them off with her fire breath. During a conversation with Unicron, Scourge proudly professed his accomplishment to his master but was harshly informed that the key was split in two when the Maximals landed on Earth eons ago; the other half being hidden somewhere in Peru.
The Terrorcons followed the Autobots to Peru and Scourge once again sent his Sweeps in to retrieve it from the humans. A chase scene ensued, with Scourge tackling Optimus Prime off a cliff, while Battletrap and Nightbird pursued the other Autobots. Though the Terrorcons end up retreating again due to Airazor's interference, Scourge managed to corrupt her by using Unicron's dark energy. When Noah, Elena, Airazor, and the Autobots regroup with the other Maximals, now led by Optimus Primal, the dark energy began to corrupt Airazor, resulting in her kidnapping Elena and delivering the other half of the key to Scourge. Airazor then attacked her friends, forcing Primal to kill her.
Meanwhile, Scourge reassembled the key on top of a volcano and used it to open a portal above Earth that Unicron can pass through. Soon after, the Autobots and Maximals joined forces to defeat the Terrorcons while Noah and Elena sneak toward the Transwarp Key to deactivate it. Though Nightbird and Battletrap die in the battle, Scourge managed to gravely wound the Autobot Mirage. Despite his injuries, the young Autobot transformed the remains of his body into an exosuit for Noah to assist Optimus in his fight with Scourge. During the fight, Scourge destroys the control console just as Elena entered the failsafe, meaning the portal can't be closed. An enraged Optimus then puts an end to Scourge's murder spree by slicing off both of his arms, but not before taking Bumblebee's insignia back from him and removing his head, avenging the deaths of Apelinq, Airazor, and all the other Cybertronians he killed and corrupted. After destroying the key, causing the space portal to collapse, the Autobots and Maximals regrouped and honored their victory in saving the Earth from Unicron's wrath.

Trivia[]
Rise of the Beasts and Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes came out on the same year that Peter Dinklage appeared in.
Before the film's release, and combined with the implications of Primal warning about the "Threats from their past and future" as well as their similar truck mode (albeit his truck mode is rusty), some fans speculated that Scourge would be either an evil version of this movie's Optimus Prime from an alternate future (much like the War For Cybertron trilogy's version of Nemesis Prime, or the other Optimus Prime from the Michael Bay-directed films where he was corrupted off-screen after The Last Knight). However, this prediction ended up being false, and it would seem that Scourge is just an ordinary Cybertronian.
Scourge serves as a foil to Optimus Prime. He represents what Optimus would've become, if he let his hatred of humankind cloud his trust and judgement.
If counting previous Bay Films, Scourge is the second main villain of the live-action Transformers franchise to be a cybertronian hunter whom serving a higher power (Unicron), the first being Lockdown from Transformers: Age of Extinction, who is a cybertronian bounty hunter that served both Harold Attinger and the Creators.
If one looks closely at Scourge's insignia trophies taken from his slain enemies, which transform into his arms and shoulders in robot mode, one can identify Autobot, Decepticon, Maximal, Mercenary, Predacon, Terrorcon, Autobot Elite Guard, and Wrecker (specifically the two-hammer symbol used in the 2019 IDW design) insignias.
This is a reference to Predator 2, where the second Predator known as the City Hunter kept the skulls of different species as trophies.
According to the YouTuber Theorymus, Scourge's kill count based on the insignias he collected was actually 64 kills (1 removed as Bumblebee was revived), which is the highest Cybertronian kill count in the live action film series, not even Megatron has Cybertronian kill count as high as Scourge's, proving that Scourge really is an experienced hunter.
The Terrorcon insignia, however, isn't included in the kill count, as it appears to be his own, as Cybertronians have their own insignias placed on their grille when transformed to vehicule mode, and there's only 1 Terrorcon Insignia shown, so him hunting down a Terrocon and collecting their insignia isn't likely the case.
It's likely possible that most of his kills were Primes evident by the line "Now to add a Prime to my collection" and his act of killing Apelinq. However, this is yet to be confirmed.
Its often theorized Scourge killed original Predacon Scorponok at some time, with evidence swarms of Predacon Scorponoks implies to be clones of original Predacon Scorponok.
In the Japanese dub of the film, he is voiced by Nobuo Tobita, a regular Transformers Japanese voice actor.
Though he was revived, Scourge is the first and probably the only Transformers live-action villain to directly kill Bumblebee, a feat no other villain has managed to achieve this.
He is based on his G1 counterpart, but his appearance is based on his RID counterpart.
In G1, Scourge was reformatted from Thundercracker. This version of Scourge is a separate character and doesn't have connection with Thundercracker from Transformers Bumblebee movie, the first being from Transformers Cybertron.
Ironically, his death is foreshadowed, as Optimus promised to Scourge that he will kill him, he even said "I will take Scourge's key, and then take off his head" as well "I can think of no better place to bury you" which is what Optimus did to Scourge when he kills him, as he brutally rips his head off, as well as his body getting sucked out by the space portal when Optimus destroyed the key.
Scourge's quotes to Optimus "You call yourself a Prime?" is similar to Megatron's quotes in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
