Chuckie: Gosh, it looks kinda like Spike's feet; only if he was a giant. Phil: I saw feetprints like that in our storybook. A wolf made them, and then he ate that Little Red Riding girl. Chuckie: The wolf ate a girl? Phil: They got her out.
„
~ Chuckie and Phil talking about Scar Snout.
Scar Snout is the main antagonist of Nickelodeon's 3rd animated feature film The Rugrats Movie.
He is a ferocious and intimidating wolf who lives in a forest located somewhere near the Pickles' residence and enjoys hunting whatever he finds. He is feared by the Rugrats, whom he attempts to eat alive, as well as the archenemy of Spike.
His vocal sound effects were provided by Frank Welker who is not credited, whom also did the sound effects of Max 3000 in Man's Best Friend, Sharptooth in The Land Before Time, Barn Owl in Once Upon a Forest, Sabor in Tarzan, Carnotaurus in Dinosaur, Barracuda in Finding Nemo, Red Death in How to Train Your Dragon, Rudy in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the Harvesters in Independence Day, Ludmilla in Bartok the Magnificent,Rhino in James and the Giant Peach and Mor'du in Brave.
Scar Snout first appears eyeing the Rugrats in the distance after they crash in the forest when they failed to return Tommy Pickles' baby brother Dil to the hospital in the Reptar Wagon. When Tommy trips over a large footprint, Phil notices that it is from a wolf, to which Tommy disagrees, saying that they would hear a howl. As Tommy mimics one, a real howl is heard (supposedly from this wolf), causing the babies to panic, jump into the Reptar Wagon and ride off.
Later, Scar Snout approaches Angelica and the family dog Spike trespassing his territory after Angelica breaks one of her roller skates. Angelica, not noticing the wolf sneaking up behind her, unknowingly takes off and throws her broken roller skate which hits his head, enraging Scar Snout. However, Spike discovers Scar Snout behind Angelica as he is about to eat her alive and promptly drags her out of the way just as the wolf bites down, narrowly avoiding Angelica. Scar Snout then growls in fury as he watches the two escape.
In the movie's climax, he later appears drinking water at the river to be ready for his revenge. When Tommy and his friends are cornered by a group of circus monkeys on a bridge, Scar Snout's presence scares the monkeys off before he reveals himself to the Rugrats and attempts to kill them. However, Spike intervenes and saves the babies by pinning Scar Snout to the ground. The two of them viciously fight, whereupon Scar Snout rips off Spike's collar and hits him off the edge of the bridge before moving in for the kill. Just as Scar Snout had Spike at his mercy as he prepares to kill him, Angelica distracts the wolf by blowing a raspberry, allowing him to turn his attention on her. However, this only lets Scar Snout's guard down long enough for Spike to recover and bite his tail before dragging the wolf towards a small hole in the bridge. Scar Snout eventually loses his grip, causing both him and Spike to plummet off the bridge and over a waterfall.
Though Spike manages to survive the fall by landing at the bottom of the bridge, Scar Snout's fate is left unknown, assuming he had also survived or was carried away by rapids to his watery grave.
Personality[]
Scar Snout is a dangerous, scary, mysterious, aggressive, ferocious, powerful and sentient hungry predator who is feared throughout the forest. Notably, he is a sapient wolf who enjoys hunting and killing whatever he finds in the forest. In addition to being a stealthy predator, he was also extremely defiant and never backed down from a fight.
Appearance[]
Scar Snout is a large, slender, muscular, fierce-looking wolf with black fur, fiery maroonish-orange eyes, a long snout full of razor-sharp teeth and sharp claws.
Trivia[]
Despite being the main antagonist, Scar Snout's role in the film is small.
Presumably, Scar Snout is the first character in a Rugrats film to die.
Scar Snout is similar to Sharptooth from the 1988 Don Bluth animated film The Land Before Time considering that he also committed child abuse and wants to kill whatever he finds.
Some people have believed that Scar Snout isn't a villain, although he is a villain because he's a sentient hungry predator and stalks the Rugrats intent on eating them alive.
Some people also have believed that Scar Snout is a normal animal, although he isn't because he's actually a sapient animal and simply huge with a long snout full of teeth and fiery red eyes.
Since Rugrats Go Wild reveals Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys are in the same universe and thus, all the animals in the Rugrats universe are sentient, Scar Snout, due to his hostile and predatory portrayal, could be likely viewed as a sadistic killer as he's fully aware that he's targeting children and is taking glee in it.
In spite of how kid-friendly and lighthearted the film is just like the Rugrats franchise was, Scar Snout darkens the mood of it whenever he appears onscreen in the film and is taken very seriously, especially when he hunts and attempts to kill the Rugrats.
It also shows that both Scar Snout and the fight scene with Spike in the film has been considered to be scary and violent by some people, stating it as a sudden dark moment in a Rugrats film.
