~ SCP-6618-A to James Vane during "Papa's Ways On How To Punish Your Child".
SCP-6618-A, AKA Papa, is a minor antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. It is the unseen host of the show "Papa's Ways On How To Raise And Discipline Your Child", which depicts it psychologically abusing a college student named James Vane in ways mimicking a parent punishing their child.
SCP-6618 came to the attention of the SCP Foundation in July 2004, when an FBI agent investigating a series of mysterious disappearances in Jackson, Wyoming came across a VCD disc labelled "PAPA'S WAYS ON HOW TO RAISE AND DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILD" which featured appearances by one of the missing persons, 20-year-old college student James Vane. The agent submitted the disc as additional evidence to his superior, who was an undercover Foundation agent. Upon reviewing the footage, the Foundation concluded that the tape was created by a technopath and had anomalous properties and classified it SCP-6618, confiscating it and amnesticizing all personnel who knew of its existence.
The footage shows various differences every time it is played, all of which depict Vane being tormented and berated by an unseen person named "Papa" (designated SCP-6618-A). "Papa" never speaks or appears on-camera during any of the episodes and is seemingly unable to enter light, turning off the spotlight illuminating the scene whenever he has to move and communicating via onscreen text which Vane is apparently able to hear. The episodes usually take the form of "Papa" introducing the subject of the episode before cutting to Vane being mentally tortured by "Papa" in a way that imitates traditional parenting methods. Later episodes show Vane's mental state becoming progressively more degraded.
Episodes[]
The first recording is entitled "The Classic Way - Time-Out" and depicts Vane, who is on his knees and apparently stuck to the wall and unable to move anything other than his head. After Vane spends three minutes trying to break free, Papa's on-screen text states that he is a bad boy and has to be taught to be good again, followed by around 97 hours of Vane trying and failing to break free until he's too weak from dehydration to move. The lights then turn off and "Papa" can be heard walking over to Vane, who begins screaming (no louder than a rasp due to dehydration) before the episode ends.
The second recording, called "The Healthy Way", shows a visibly malnourished Vane being fed various dishes. However, when he tries to leave without eating his vegetables, Papa reminds the audience to punish bad behaviour before turning the lights off. When the lights turn back on, Vane has had several large pieces of lettuce shoved in his mouth and Papa orders him to chew; when he refuses, Papa turns the lights off again and physically forces the lettuce down his throat before forcing him to chew and declaring that Vane is now a good boy.
The sixth recording, about making your child do chores, has Vane acting much more submissive, hunching over to make himself look smaller and displaying symptoms of PTSD. Papa orders him via on-screen text to sweep the floor and gloats that "children are to be seen and not heard", not noticing Vane producing a roll of tape and wrapping it around the spotlight illuminating him. Papa notices too late and beings angrily repeating "NONONONONO" while Vane, whose voice now resembles a pre-pubescent child, laughs that he can't turn the light off now and can't come and get him. However, Papa begins ripping the tape off and the episode ends with Vane trying to run away before the light turns off and the sound of Vane being repeatedly thrown to the floor and bones snapping and cracking can be heard as the word "PUNISHMENT" repeats over and over again.
The eighth recording displays the title "PAPA'S WAYS ON HOW TO PUNISH YOUR CHILD" and has Papa declares that the best way to punish your child is "self-reflection". The spotlight is not turned on, but Vane can be heard crying in the manner of a small child and begging Papa not to hurt him. Tape can also be heard wrapping around something while Papa rants about Vane being ungrateful and tells him he has to learn his place, "like your siblings have". He then declares that Vane will see "your true face" before turning the spotlight on. The camera is turned away, showing the other side of the room with what appear to be parts of crushed human corpses stuck to the wall, but Vane can be heard screaming. The Foundation assume he saw his face in the mirror (later discoveries would suggest that he was badly disfigured by Papa).
The ninth recording explains how to deal with crying and advocates using the Ferber method (letting children cry so they can learn to self-soothe). The recording simply shows Vane curled up in the fetal position, crying like an infant and sucking his thumb. Papa claims that children only cry because they want attention and advises the audience to never give it to them. He then advises that, if this doesn't work and they keep crying, you should "force them to cry it out". At this point the spotlight turns off and Vane begins crying even louder. Notably, faint crying from adjacent rooms is audible in this video, which ends with a declaration that "Papa loves all of you".
Operation 6618.1[]
Four months after the discovery of SCP-6618, Foundation webcrawler teams came across a website called "Papa's Parenting Journey". This website is currently defunct, displaying only an error message, but the IP address was traced to a cabin in rural Wyoming. Notably, this cabin was located in the vicinity of an area where hundreds of disappearances have occurred between 1990 and 2004. Believing they had now located the residence of SCP-6618-A, the Foundation launched Operation 6618.1 and sent Mobile Task Force Epsilon-6 under the command of Captain Jules de Napoli to investigate.
Upon arrival, MTF Epsilon-6 found the cabin seemingly empty, Papa having apparently fled after somehow realizing they were coming. Captain de Napoli discovered a small trapdoor under the sofa which led to a basement full of hundreds of SCP-6618 discs. They also came across 21 TV sets, all of them playing one of the discs, and realized to their horror that all of them depicted different people in different stages of mental regression and malnourishment, meaning that each of the hundred discs represented a different victim. All of them were repeating "Papa!" over and over again. The MTF team then heard a loud noise coming from a well-like structure and hesitantly removed the lid, discovering a large mass of hundreds of bodies ranging from fresh to fully decayed skeletons, some of which were crushed against the side of the well to the point of liquefication. All bodies were churning in a manner similar to thick liquid and upon closer inspection appeared to be alive and crying like infants. One of these bodies, with grievous injuries and contortions to its bones and extensive injuries to its eyes, mouth and teeth, seemed to be trying to climb out and was only able to scream "Papa!". This was identified as James Vane.
Papa was not found at the cabin and is assumed to still be at large. Foundation webcrawler teams are currently monitoring the Internet to find any websites or online posts similar to SCP-6618, with the term "Papa" being of particular interest.
