The Scarlet Bird

~ SCP-444-JP
Don't feed it, don't know, Lock it up.
~ A surviving officer on SCP-444-JP.

SCP-444-JP, also known as the Scarlet Bird, is an antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. It is an unclassed phenomenon with an ego that escaped from the SCP Foundation's containment. Its main body in reality is just a word, but its true identity is a thought body in the form of a scarlet bird, which possesses the person who knows the word, eats that person, and escaped from hallucination world.

Biography[]

During the Nanboku-chō period, Shushu-in used the SCP-444-JP, which was not as powerful as it is currently, to destroy Sarkicism, which was creating "monsters in human skin". For the SCP-444-JP, it was synonymous with "feeding," and Shushu-in decided to use it, along with Sarkicism, to cover up the SCP-444-JP. Later, the destruction of Sarkicism in Japan was successful, and in doing so, Shushu-in captured a monk who was spreading Sarkicism, and sealed a monk in a place called "the cage of Oui" built by "Tohei" in cooperation with Sakuranushi. However, when fed, SCP-444-JP strengthened its power.

SCP-444-JP then raged as a grand cognitive disaster, but it was sealed by Sakuranushi into a single word, and then completely sealed by tearing the paper with the sealed word into pieces. However, after being sealed, SCP-444-JP learned about the effects of words on humans, and SCP-444-JP became a SCP that "invades people's minds through words, eating them up from the inside and spreading disaster" by the time the JOICL found SCP-444-JP.

SCP-444-JP was written on a defeated notepad at the JOICL's base in a certain town. The memo with SCP-444-JP on it at the time of discovery was torn to pieces and was thought to have been destroyed before the JOICL abandoned the base. One of the foundation's task force that has taken control of the base discovers a peace of the memo and read it. The task force officer who read it was exposed to abnormality and was placed in isolation, but later escaped from the hallucination world on his own and returned to normal duties. But then, the officer suddenly started killing others in the vicinity. The officer kept saying, "Red bird, it still does not fly", and the officer was taken into custody for questioning. As a result, it was discovered that he suffered from significant intellectual regression and severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as a complete recovery of memories from the hallucinatory world that should have been processed. Later, the officers who had been researching SCP-444-JP started a riot, killing many people, and were possessed with SCP-444-JP. The remaining researcher forced himself to process the memories seven times and wrote about mistakes about SCP-444-JP foundation have made in an article on SCP-444-JP, but eventually the researcher also was possessed with SCP-444-JP and died. Before he died, the researcher wrote in an article's blank, "Don't feed it, don't know it, close it.".

In response to this incident, the Foundation placed all those involved in SCP-444-JP in SCP-444-JP-1 and contained it a classified SCP even within the Foundation. However, SCP-444-JP had at that point become an "SCP that is anomalous in its knowing", so the scarlet bird of the hallucinatory world took advantage of this action of the Foundation and flew off to the real world. This SCP is currently in an unaccommodated state, but the Foundation is not aware of it.

Trivia[]

  • This SCP is written as the "Vermilion Bird", one of the "Four Symbols (Four Gods)" (SCP-777-JP, SCP-040-JP, SCP-173-JP).
  • SCP-444-JP shares similarities with SCP-3125.
