Marshal Robert Deguerin is the main antagonist in the 1996 film Eraser.
He is portrayed by James Caan.
Biography[]
Deguerin was originally the friend and mentor of John 'Eraser' Kruger. He works for the Federal Witness Security Protection Program (WITSEC) as a U.S. Marshal, but is in fact a mole working with Undersecretary of Defense Daniel Harper and formerly William Donahue before he committed suicide. He is involved in a major scam and throughout the course of the film, he attempts to frame Kruger as the mole, but ultimately fails. Towards the end of the film, he kidnaps Lee Cullen and brings her to the Baltimore docks where a railgun shipment is taking place. Kruger arrives, kills the terrorists present, and wounds Deguerin before handing him over to the authorities.
A while later, a hearing takes place but Deguerin manages to escape charges. As he leaves, Kruger fakes his and Lee's death by blowing up a vehicle in front of a large crowd of witnesses, including Deguerin himself. Deguerin believes the explosion had been set up by one of his accomplices but soon realises that no one had actually arranged it. The limousine in which he is sitting suddenly comes to an abrupt halt on a level crossing, and the doors lock themselves shut. Deguerin anxiously looks around before receiving a phone call from Kruger, stating that he is about to be "erased". Looking out of the window, Deguerin sees a freight train steadily approaching him, and Kruger stands by to watch it smash into the limousine, finally killing Deguerin.
