Playtime Company, often shortened to Playtime Co., are the overarching antagonists of the Poppy Playtime franchise.
Once being a mega-orphanage and toy factory in the midwest known for being the King of Toys, though eventually became a facility used to turn orphans and employees into living Toy-experiments as slaves led by the Higher-Ups in a project known as the Bigger Bodies Initiative, lasting until a massacre known as the Hour of Joy caused it to close on August 8, 1995 and leave the factory disbanded and populated by the Toys.
History[]
The toy company is considered the king of toys. Since they have scientists and great technology, they have become very popular.
The truth about this company is that they are experimenting with humans to transmit their consciousness to the toys, particularly orphans as it seems they're the easiest for them to use as a base rather than adults. Their treatment of their employees and workers is also borderline abusive and authoritarian, as complaints about monsters roaming around (such as Mommy Long Legs) is ignored and downplayed, employees are threatened to silence and possibly killed for learning about the secret experiments of the corporation, and the work environment is considered to be very dangerous and poor.
On August 8th, 1995, The Prototype set up an incident known as The Hour of Joy for his bitter revenge on Playtime Co. that made all of the Toys hostile and kill everyone within the Factory in brutal ways. During this time, Kissy Missy was being transported to the Playcare as part of the Bigger Bodies Contingency Plan. But once The Hour of Joy started, she broke free and started to attack the employees as well. After everyone (with the exception of The Player and Leith Pierre) was killed, the toys dragged the corpses of everyone down into the lower levels of the factory and ate them as sources of food.
10 years later, Poppy sent a letter to a former employee, that is, the protagonist of the game. In the letter, it is stated that you must meet them in the flower. At the end of chapter one, there was no one there except Poppy, a doll made by the company. Sometime along with its tenure, it shut its doors for reasons unknown (presumably both lack of workforce & their main factory being unusable due to the Hour of Joy) and closed all its factories.
