During the events of Fast and Furious 6, he is hired by the cyber-terrorist Cipher to steal an EMP weapon known as "Nightshade", which brings him into conflict with the Toretto family.
He is played by Luke Evans, who also played Gaston in the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
Biography[]
Shaw's early life is only implied by references to his relationship with his older brother Deckard. According to Deckard, Owen was a troublemaker in his youth, frequently getting into fights and conflict as well as stealing from people, with Deckard having to step in and get him out of trouble. Like his brother and sister, Shaw joined the military when he grew older, becoming a member of the armed forces, where he specialized in vehicular warfare, a skill which led to him becoming both a highly skilled driver, and able to develop vehicles for specific purposes, such as a car designed to flip other vehicles. Eventually, Shaw left the military and became a mercenary-for-hire, using his skills to steal and commit robberies, with a crew behind him. He also came to work alongside crime lord Arturo Braga, leading to him manipulating an amnesiac Letty into joining his crew.
One day, Cipher, a criminal mastermind and terrorist, went to Deckard and asked in his help in retrieving Nightshade, a deadly EMP weapon capable of destroying the electric grid of entire countries. When Deckard refused, Cipher hired Owen instead.
