~ Mr. Freeze |
Mr. Freeze is one of the main antagonists of the Burton/Schumacher Batman franchise, appearing as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Poison Ivy) of Batman and Robin.
He is portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also played the Terminator in the Terminator franchise.
Description[]
Mr. Freeze is a completely different character both in design and personality; he was (in)famously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and had some of modern cinema's most memorable "camp" moments, which has made him a controversial figure in the Batman mythos, with some fans enjoying the camp humor (somewhat akin to the old Adam West show) while others panned it for making Batman far too childish in nature.
Mr. Freeze planned on destroying Gotham City and was more openly omnicidal in this movie, using his freeze-ray to callously freeze pretty much anything in his path, though he did have a connection to his frozen wife (just as many other incarnations would do).
Mr. Freeze made an alliance with Poison Ivy despite the radically different philosophies of the two villains, though she would later prove to be a traitor who attempted to kill his wife and frame Batman for it. After Batman shows him that Ivy attempted the murder and Batman actually saved her, Mr. Freeze gave Batman the cure to stage 1 of MacGregor's Syndrome. Batman had Nora sent to Arkham Asylum so Freeze could continue his research. He also becomes Ivy's cellmate and vows to make her life a living hell of eternal winter for her treachery.
Trivia[]
- Mr. Freeze was advertised as the main antagonist in the film (and he initially was), but when the true main villain was revealed, he eventually reformed.
- In the 1960's Batman Series he was played by three different actors: George Sanders; Otto Preminger and Eli Wallach
