The Mosasaurus is a minor antagonist in the Jurassic World films.
This Mosasaurus clone is larger than her real-life counterpart. This can be attributed to Dr. Henry Wu sating that he purposely made the dinosaurs with exaggerated traits, asserting that dinosaurs made from pure code are not compatible with high-tech theme park attractions.
This Mosasaurus is truly an eating machine with an endless hunger and can't have enough to eat to be satisfied. The Jurassic World employees only fed her during showtime, indicating they toyed with the Mosasaurus’s appetite just for tourists to enjoy the show. The Mosasaurus has become ever alert for any fleshy living being to be unfortunate enough to fall into her water domains. When the island was abandoned, her hunger got worse to the point were she would eat anything that moved.
The Mosasaurus is a genus of large aquatic carnivore from the Late Cretaceous about 70-66 million years ago. Mosasaurus gave its name to a group of marine lizards - Mosasaurs. Mosasaurus means "Meuse Lizard", referring to the river near where it was first found. It fed on such prey as seabirds, sharks, large fish, plesiosaurs, people and even other mosasaurs.
The Mosasaurus was successfully recreated by InGen under the wing of the Masrani Global Corporation for their new dinosaur park Jurassic World.
The Mosasaurus page and the Mosasaurus Feeding Show page on the Jurassic World website give conflicting accounts about its weight. The Mosasaurus page says it weighs 5 tons while the Mosasaurus Feeding Show states that it weighs 15 tons. On the website, it's been confirmed that the species is Mosasaurus maximus.
The Mosasaurus also had a bite force of 13K, one pound higher than the terrestrial predator Tyrannosaurus rex that lived in the same period as the Mosasaur.
The Mosasaurus lived in a 3 million gallon pool of water located near Main Street known as the Jurassic World Lagoon and visitors could watch it feed on sharks in the Mosasaurus Feeding Show. Visitors could also view her through an aquarium below the lagoon known as the Underwater Observatory to see her.
She was cloned 11 years ago. Unlike the previous mosasaur, this clone resembled the real animal much more. However it had a greater bit force, spikes running down its back and no forked tongue. Instead, she had a thick, heavy, average shape tongue. She had an endless appetite and will devour anything that would enter or fall into her water, even humans. In the park, the only Mosasaurus ever bred lives in the Jurassic World Lagoon.
The Mosasaurus has a huge head with sharp teeth not only in the jaws but also in the mouth roof; it can unhinge its jaws to swallow large pieces of meat, just like a carnivore dinosaur. It locates prey with its senses of smell and taste (the latter is reforced with a bifid tongue like that of snakes). The Mosasaurus can hold its breath underwater for a long time and sometimes takes naps in the sea floor. It can´t move in dry land, so it never leaves water. It is active mainly during day. InGen scientists discovered that the Mosasaurus has certain control over its own metabolism, and it seems that it can reduce its heart and breath rates at will. This reptile was fed with dead sharks; The Mosasaurus was always a cause of worries for the Jurassic World orld keepers due to the potential danger of it escaping to open sea. Thus, a special enclosure with reinforced steel fences was built for it, not far away from the shore.
The Mosasaurus is a very large powerful aquatic reptile that was shown to be strong enough to drag the struggling Indominus rex into the water. She has very powerful jaw strength with a bite force of 13,000 pounds, which was at least as powerful as the Tyrannosaurus. She uses her powerful jaw strength to kill a Pteranodon and even a Tyrannosaurus. Though judging by the body their main attacking its like T-rex with its head and powerful jaws that they can take down many prey that was proven by Indominus rex.
In the wild she is also known to swim up rivers sometimes or hunt in the mangrove forests. She will hunt any kind of prey that fits in her prey spectrum. The Mosasaurus color is ideal for her hunting strategy: she hunts from below and uses the element of surprise.
Mosasaurus has an incredibly flexible body more akin to a snake than any lizard, and so it is able to squeeze its way through small gaps as long as its head can fit. It is particularly fond of exploring the shipwrecks off the coasts of nublar in search of food. The Mosasaurus sometimes scavenge over the corpses of dead whales or drowned animals. Through rapid thrashing of its tail, it is also capable putting on a burst of speed as it rises to the surface, enabling it to leap from the water to snatch a seabird, pterosaur or anything from the air to be her meal. She could even leap out of the water to catch a falling human in her jaws and quickly devour them.
The cloned Mosasaurus retained many features of its original counterpart. It also had a bite force of 13K, one pound higher than the terrestrial predator Tyrannosaurus rex that lived in the same period as the Mosasaurus. The Mosasaurus also had a frill running down its back and lacked a forked tongue as well as lacked a large tail fluke.
Jurassic World Edit
Isla Nublar Incident (2015) Edit
The Mosasaurus was first seen emerging from her lagoon, licking the roof of her mouth with her large tongue before catching a 9-foot shark on a large fishing line, and the audience, including Zach and Gray Mitchell, cheers. Then, the audience then gets an underwater tour of Mosy consuming the shark.
Following the escape of the Jurassic World Aviary's residents from their enclosure, Jurassic World employee Zara Young was dropped into Mosy's tank after being grabbed by a Pteranodon. The Mosasaurus stalked Zara as the Pteranodon flew over the enclosure to recapture her. The Mosasaurus then shot out of the water catching both of them in her mouth. The Mosasaurus then closed her jaws on the Pteranodon. The Mosasaurus devoured Zara whole, as she was in between the second row of teeth. The Mosasaurus went back underwater and let out belch as she digested her first human meal. At the end of the battle between the Indominus rex, the Tyrannosaurus, and Blue, the Mosasaurus arose from the Lagoon to catch the hybrid in her jaws, and dragged her to the bottom of the lagoon to consume her as her midnight dinner, thus devouring her.
After the island is abandoned, The Mosasaurus is left in her lagoon never to be fed as her starvation becomes stronger.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Edit
The Mosasaurus reappears at the beginning in the lagoon although she was supposed to be dead. While men in the submarine retrieved a sample of the skeleton of the Indominus-rex, the hungry Mosasaurus swallowed the craft as it departed. Then, the Mosasaurus leaps from the water at an escaping helicopter and eats Jack, a mercenary. Then the lagoon doors are blocked and she escaped into the open ocean.
She only reappears at the end of the film, free in the ocean and can be seen in the waves, stalking some surfers and licking the roof of her mouth with her tongue, hungrier then ever. One surfer wipes out and she advances forward through the waves as her jaws open. It is most likely she succeeded in devouring the surfer.
