Miranda Jakar

Miranda Jakar was a delusional serial killer that appeared in the season 4 of Criminal Minds.

Miranda was born in Sarajevo at the Yugoslavia in 1982, as a child she was orphan very early and adopted by a Srebrenica family. When the Srebrenica wars took place, Miranda eventually witnessed the Srebrenica massacre after she moved to the rest of the world to both England and Italy, because of the massacre that caused her to have trauma and psychotic tendencies, that made her kill whenever she remembered it or when she was triggered.

She moved to Virginia in the United States and a little while later Miranda got a job as an employee of the site PhotoBug. She had a psychotic break caused by the sound of military airplanes flying in commemoration to Langley's annicersary, which resulted in the death of the Williams family. The next year on the same date, the airplanes once more triggered Miranda, who went on to murder the Downey family.

Three days later the BAU is called in. They talked to Karl Arnold (another family annihilator from season 1, episode 7: "The Fox") but he didn't give them anything useful to the case in question. However, using the same logic they used to catch Karl, Prentiss deduced that the unsub was a woman because she killed the daughters of the families last. Later there's a scene where it appears that Miranda is having a psychotic break triggered by the sounds of the military airplanes flying over the city. She sees her younger self in the mirror and shoots at it.

Garcia discovers a connection between all the victims; they all uploaded pictures to PhotoBug to keep in touch while the fathers were in tours of the military overseas. She consequently discovers Miranda's fingerprints in the Interpol database for three unsolved murders across different European countries. Reid deduces she was at least a witness to the massacres of Sarajevo and Bosnia, and that trauma is what led to her murdering sprees as an adult. Garcia gives them Miranda's home address and they go in with a SWAT team, but Miranda has already gone to kill the next family: the Youngs.

Miranda arrives at the Young household and subdues the mother and two children. Morgan leads the raid into the Young's house, and sees the mother and her son alone in the master bedroom. Miranda ambushes Morgan, shouting in Croatian. Morgan manages to keep Miranda's gun away from him so even when she shoots three times at him, she misses. Morgan, who lost his gun, turns Miranda's gun on herself and she ends up shooting herself. Morgan crawls away from Miranda, grabs his gun and points it at her, but she's already dead.
