Megatron, also known as Galvatron whilst in his prototype form, is the main antagonist of the Transformers film series. He is the main antagonist of Transformers, the secondary antagonist of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a major antagonist of Transformers: Age of Extinction and the secondary antagonist of Transformers: The Last Knight. He is Optimus Prime's brother and archenemy, and the second-in-command of the Decepticons.
Throughout the films, he routinely faces off against mankind and the Autobots to gain artifacts which allow him to rebuild Cybertron. Initially, he journeyed to Earth to find the All-Spark, but became unconscious and was captured by the US government, who reverse-engineered modern technology from him. Upon awakening in 2007, he attempted to capture the All-Spark, only for Sam Witwicky to kill him by shoving the All-Spark into his core, destroying both.
However, Megatron was awakened by his Decepticons, and attempted to take over the Earth twice, first by finding the Sun Harvester for his master The Fallen, and secondly by reawakening his mentor and secret ally Sentinel Prime to teleport Cybertron to Earth. Both attempts failed, with Megatron being killed a second time by Optimus in the latter.
He was resurrected yet again when KSI used his body to make him a new body, making him as Galvatron. He attempted to capture a Transformium seed, but was stopped yet again. Eventually, he became a new form of Megatron again, and assisted Quintessa in bringing Cybertron to Earth for a second time, only for that plan to also be foiled.
He was voiced by Frank Welker in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight and he was voiced by Hugo Weaving in the original trilogy, who played Red Skull in the MCU and Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Megatron was once brothers-in-arms with Optimus and a student of Sentinel Prime, appointed to be Cybertron's Protector and commander of its Defense Force. But Megatron resented his comrade, knowing he was a Prime and therefore Sentinel's favored son. This anger allowed The Fallen to ensnare him and led to the Decepticons to be formed, beginning the Great War. Eventually, after the lifegiving Allspark was jettisoned into space Megatron followed it to Earth, leaving Shockwave in charge of Cybertron. He also made a secret deal with Sentinel Prime to bring magical pillars to Earth with which they could use to teleport Cybertron to Earth and take it over.
Transformers (2007)[]
Megatron eventually succeeded in tracking the AllSpark to Earth, where he crash-landed in the Arctic Circle and was frozen solid for thousands of years. In 1897, he was discovered by Archibald Witwicky, who accidentally activated Megatron's navigation system and caused the coordinates of the AllSpark to be etched onto the explorer's glasses. Megatron remained imprisoned in the Arctic until the 1930s, when he was dug out by the United States government and moved to a secret Sector Seven stronghold inside Hoover Dam. In the years that followed, many modern devices were reverse-engineered from his frozen body.
In the present day, having searched the galaxy for the AllSpark and being drawn to Earth, the remaining Decepticons learned of Witwicky's glasses. Through the Internet, they determined the location of both Megatron and the AllSpark inside Hoover Dam. Frenzy infiltrated the dam and shut down the power systems, while Starscream attacked the external powerlines, resulting in Megatron's thawing out. Once again online, he yelled "I am Megatron!", killing a few of them while destroying his prison, then transformed and met up with Starscream and immediately demanded to know where the Cube was. Upon learning that the humans had moved the AllSpark, Megatron berated Starscream for failure.
In the final battle in Mission City Megatron arrived to reclaim the Allspark. After killing Jazz by tearing him in two, he fought Optimus once more, knocking him out the way to chase down the Autobot's ally Sam, the descendant of Archibald Whitwicky. Prime saved Sam, and the fight was rejoined. Eventually, though both were damaged, Megatron won the fight. However Sam jammed the Allspark into Megatron's chest, killing him. After this, his body was dumped in the ocean.
Revenge of the Fallen[]
Two years after his death, Megatron was revived by the Decepticons with a shard from the Allspark. After his revival he flew to his master, The Fallen, on his ship the Nemesis. After chastising Starscream for leaving him to die, he apologised to his master for failing him, but the Fallen told him the knowledge of the Allspark was within the mind of Sam, and ordered him to capture Sam, who knew the location of the Star Harvester and the Matrix of Leadership, and kill Optimus.
Megatron sent Grindor to capture Sam and bring him to an abandoned factory. Megatron held the boy down while Scalpel probed Sam's mind. Just as Scalpel was ready to dissect Sam's brain, Optimus and Bumblebee burst in to rescue the humans. Megatron attempted to attack Optimus, but was shot out of the factory as he pounced. Optimus drove Sam to a forest, with Megatron in hot pursuit. Optimus and Megatron duelled, and he called in Starscream and Grindor. In the ensuing battle, Optimus fought off Starscream and killed Grindor. When Optimus was at his weakest, Megatron stabbed him in the back, killing him. The rest of the Autobots arrived to provide cover, and Megatron and Starscream retreated.
Despite being pleased by Optimus' death, Megatron was angry that Sam had escaped, taking his anger out on Starscream. Deciding to force humanity to give Sam up, Megatron and The Fallen broadcast a message to the world to hand over Sam. In Egypt, where the Star Harvester was located, Megatron began the assault on the Autobots begin their assault, ordering Devastator to destroy the pyramid that was built over the harvester. Megatron chased Sam for the Matrix, and almost killed Sam, but was overwhelmed by human gunfire, and flew off.
The Fallen managed to take the Matrix and activate the harvester, but it had already been used to resurrect Optimus. Optimus empowered himself by combining with Jetfire (a former Decepticon) and destroyed the harvester, knocking Megatron off the pyramid. Quickly recovering, Megatron attacked Optimus from behind. Optimus blasted half of Megatron's face off, and sent him flying. Badly damaged, Megatron witnessed Optimus Prime kill the Fallen. Horrified at the demise of his master, Megatron acknowledged Starscream's advice that they should flee, but vowed that "This isn't over."
Rising Storm[]
In 2010, Megatron found and freed Shockwave from his imprisonment by humans, and brought him to his base in Namibia, Africa. Megatron sent out Shockwave to retrieve Starscream and his subordinates, who have clandestinely begun dealing Cybertronian weaponry to humans. As he waited, Megatron fumed about Optimus Prime's past decision to send out the AllSpark into space, internally justifying to himself all his past deeds as necessary evils in the face of Optimus's own transgressions against their species. While Shockwave and Starscream did their parts in Megatron's scheme, Megatron stayed behind in Nambia, teaching the hatchlings under his care to recognise Optimus Prime as their enemy.
Dark of The Moon[]
Three years after Revenge of the Fallen, Megatron hid out in Africa, still visibly bearing the scars of his battle. He spent most of his time sitting on a throne of junk, with only Starscream, Soundwave, Laserbeak, and his servant Igor to command. Megatron regularly went out to find food for the Hatchlings, occasionally scaring the local wildlife with his roaring and bellowing. Laserbeak returned after observing Shockwave's fight with Optimus, and he and Soundwave told Megatron that the Autobots had discovered a fuel cell from the seeming lost Autobot ship the Ark. Megatron, approving of their work, decided that the humans working for them had served their purpose, and ordered them to be eliminated.
After Sentinel Prime betrayed the Autobots, Megatron and Starscream travelled to Washington D.C., where Megatron outlined his scheme. Megatron then blasted Lincoln off his stone throne, and used the remains as a seat. Soon, they travelled to Chicago, where Sentinel and Megatron planned their global takeover. After the Decepticons successfully occupied Chicago, Megatron vowed Cybertron would be restored. Sentinel violently reminded him he did not work for Megatron, he worked with Megatron.
Much later, Dylan Gould shouted to Megatron that the Autobots, who were seemingly destroyed, were still alive. Megatron ordered the bridges to be raised and all Decepticon fighter ships to find the Autobots. Sentinel would take control of the Decepticon forces in the fight against the Autobots, and Megatron watched Cybertron appear in the sky above. Carly Spencer, Sam's girlfriend, reminded him that Sentinel had claimed Megatron's power for himself. Megatron attacked Sentinel while he was battling Optimus. Seeing the Autobots thwart his plans, Megatron offered Optimus a truce, as long he could remain in charge of the Decepticons. "After all," he asked, "Who would you be without me, Prime?" Prime's response was to announce that it was "Time to find out," as he promptly tore Megatron's head from his shoulders with his axe, finally killing him.
Age of Extinction[]
Although Megatron's spark was extinguished, his brain remained intact within his severed head. A few years after the Chicago war, Megatron's remains were acquired by KSI, who forced Brains to download and decrypt data from the Decepticon leader's brain to help them crack the secrets of Transformium and create their own range of man-made Transformer drones. Company head Joshua Joyce intended for the centrepiece of this line, the military drone "Galvatron", to be physically patterned after Optimus Prime, but Megatron's mind secretly influenced the Transformium, causing it to take a shape not dissimilar to his own appearance, so that the Galvatron shell could serve as a new body for himself. Additionally, he learned of KSI's alliance with the Lockdown, and the Seed they were going to receive as payment, and schemed to steal it and use it to create enough Transformium to build a massive Decepticon army. As the go-between, Brains was aware of the Decepticon leader's plan, but declined to notify his captors of any of this.
After four prototype Galvatrons were junked by KSI due to their Megatron-like appearance, they were forced to put the fifth into action after the Autobots attempted a raid on their Chicago facility. Before it rolled out, Megatron transferred his mind into the drone's body and was thus reborn. He initially pretended to obey KSI's remote control, but quickly began to exhibit his free will, firing his weapons unbidden and showing a reckless disregard for civilian bystanders. When Optimus Prime engaged Galvatron in battle, he could sense the essence of Megatron within the drone, but before their fight could reach a definitive end, Lockdown abducted Prime. Galvatron was retrieved from the field by Joyce, who declared the drone's signs of autonomy as critical flaws.
Brains revealed Galvatron's scheme to Cade Yeager, who called Joyce and alerted him of the danger Galvatron posed should he obtain the Seed. Having ended his deal with Lockdown, Attinger handed over the Seed he'd received in exchange for Optimus. Galvatron activated on his own as he bellowed his name, then animated KSI's other Transformers. Together, Galvatron and his new minions trashed KSI's lab as they searched for the Seed. However, Joyce was able to flee the facility with the Seed, escaping both Galvatron and the CIA. Galvatron ordered his new Decepticons to split up and find Joyce, and his troops were able to shoot down the Autobot ship just as Joyce was about to hand over the Seed. The Autobots, with the Dinobots in tow, destroyed most of the Decepticons, much to Galvatron's chagrin. Galvatron was only saved by the timely reappearance of Lockdown, whose attack drew Optimus's attention. With his plans temporarily stymied, Galvatron swore revenge against Prime as he left for parts unknown.
The Last Knight[]
At some point, under unknown circumstances, Galvatron fell under the sway of Quintessa, and was reformatted into a new body, using his true name. Quintessa charged him with recovering the staff stolen from her by her Guardian Knights, which she sought to use to drain the lifeforce of Earth in order to restore Cybertron. Learning from his new ally that Earth was Cybertron's ancient enemy Unicron, Megatron surveyed each of the six "horns" that had begun to emerge from its surface in preparation for Cybertron's arrival, but the first clue to the staff was found when Barricade witnessed a dying knight giving Cade a Talisman connected to the staff. Megatron was angry at his subordinate's failure to obtain it, but Barricade salvaged the situation with a plan to use the Transformers Reaction Force to do the work for them.
Needing reinforcements, Megatron kidnapped two CIA officers, offering to trade them in return for releasing of a Decepticon squaad of his choosing from TRF custody. Meeting with Lennox in the desert, Megatron secured the release of Mohawk, Dreadbot, Nitro Zeus, and Onslaught. The Decepticons tracked Yeager to his junkyard hideout, but their quarry had already escaped to a nearby town. Among the refuse, Megatron discovered Starscream's head, musing that his victory was near, pitying his treacherous lieutenant hadn't lived to see it. He was then attacked by Hound, but he dispatched the Autobot with his fusion cannon. Megatron's team followed the Autobots, but all they could find in the town was the little Autobot Sqweeks. Sqweeks's friend and guardian Izabella emerged from hiding, furiously ordering the Decepticon leader to put Sqweeks down. Yeager and the Autobots broke cover and sprung an explosive trap. As battle with the Autobots raged, Grimlock joined the fight and personally tossed Megatron around. The Decepticons were quickly overpowered and Megatron called a retreat, escaping with Nitro Zeus and Barricade.
When Yeager and Bumblebee went to England to meet with Sir Edmund Burton, Megatron and his remaining forces followed, knowing Yeager would lead them to the Staff. Quintessa had also brainwashed Optimus Prime and sent him to obtain the staff, but when Bumblebee helped Prime break her control, Megatron seized his opportunity, blindsiding the disoriented Prime, and snatching the staff away. He proclaimed to his nemesis that he had turned his back on Cybertron for the last time, and would watch Earth die. As Cybertron arrived in Earth orbit, the Decepticons headed for Stonehenge, where Megatron activated the portal through which Unicron's energy would be drained. When Burton and the military attempted to stop them, Megatron fatally wounded Burton.
The Decepticons relocated to Cybertron, where Megatron delivered the staff to Quintessa and led the defense of her ignition chamber against the Autobots, humans, and Dragonstorm. His forces held the line until Sqweeks destroyed their gun emplacement and Optimus slew Infernocus. He and Nitro fell back as the Autobots broke through the defenses and arrived to thwart their plan, and soon engaged all the Autobots together. As he prepared to deliver a killing blow to Hound, he was briefly frozen by Hot Rod's time slowing gun and blasted by Hound. He was then tackled by Bumblebee and when he prepared to blast the small Autobot, Optimus Prime intervened, slicing his fusion cannon arm off. Megatron, despite his injury, subdued Optimus and attempted to sway him by reminding him of how they had once been "brothers", but Optimus retorted that it had indeed only been once, and kicked him through a wall, sending him plummeting through the air.
Personality[]
Megatron is a ferocious, egomaniacal and warmongering warlord, feared for his sadism, brutality and destructive behavior, all aspects that made even Optimus Prime growing wary of him. He was completely megalomaniacal, authoritative, and power-hungry, as when he wanted to control over Cybertron but ended up destroying it after countless year war with the Autobots and Decepticons and then wanted the subjugation of the universe by attempting to seize power over the AllSpark. Megatron was somewhat of a social Darwinist, especially towards humans whom he considers insects and would have destroyed the entire Earth just to fulfill his goals. When he was resurrected for the second time in his life, and unleashed by KSI, he became extremely violent and uncontrollably aggressive, massacring every human who came close to him.
Like the Fallen himself, Megatron despised the human race as he considered them as fleshlings, insects and an inferior race. Megatron shown his disgust of a human when he fling a man. Despite of his dislikes for humans, he is willing to spare them to make them as his "pets" such as Dylan Gould.
As the leader of the Decepticons, Megatron faced no problems while in command, his followers possessed the utmost loyalty towards him and his cause. In fact, the only Decepticon that Megatron did not trust was his second-in-command, Starscream, who had opted for his command, but Megatron is able to keep his loyalty in check using violence and intimidation. He also did not tolerate failure from Starscream and would brutally beat him and even just insult him if he was easily irritated by his second-in-command's sycophantic groveling. But despite this, Megatron himself answered to a higher power and was a willing servant to his master the Fallen, who he was very loyal and respectable towards on Cybertron; the renegade Prime was able to heal him when Megatron had been badly injured. Also, when he discovered Starscream's head, he mourned him, showing despite the abusive treatment on him, he genuinely liked him.
However, Megatron wasn't always a belligerent and militaristic warmonger; back on Cybertron he co-ruled his native planet with his twin brother and future rival Optimus Prime, but after hearing word of an ancient alien force coming to their planet to seize the Allspark and after this force was unearthed he was left severely injured, though was later healed by the Fallen who was in the artifact and was able to manipulate Megatron with the promise of power and then began to desire the AllSpark which began him to create an army of Cybertonians called Decepticons. Megatron is extremly determined in his objectives, pursuing them with great perserverance. Even after being killed and revived, he does not renounce and is willing to restore Cybertron at all cost.
Megatron is above all narcissistic, overconfident, egotistical, and arrogant. When he first fought Optimus Prime in the first film, and Optimus said it was just the two of them in this fight, Megatron retorted No, it's just me, Prime! Also, after being killed by Sam Witwicky, Starscream his first lieutenant took command of the Decepticons in his absence, he was enraged and came close to actually killing Starscream while claiming "even in death, there is no command but mine." This also shows when Megatron savagely beat Sentinel Prime half to death as when he was goaded by Carly Spencer by being called Sentinel's "b****" and claimed that the Earth was his and wanted to be in charge of the Decepticons once more.
As revealed in Transformers: Age of Extinction, Megatron is also extremely intelligent and manipulative; after being decapitated by Optimus Prime, KSI used his head to hack Cybertronian encryptions but this ended up reactivating him and this allowed Megatron to trick KSI into building him a body called Galvatron and an entire army of Transformers so that he could seize the Seed and arise a larger one. But despite this high IQ, Megatron can also be single-minded and pertinacious at times. For all of his faults, the only thing that Megatron loved throughout his life was his home world Cybertron, so much so that he struck a deal with Sentinel Prime to revive it if only so he could be the one who ruled it. As shown in The Last Knight, he's even willing to make deals with humans if it means returning home and possibly rebuilding Cybertron despite his extreme hatred for humanity.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Cybertronian Physiology: As a Cybertronian, who are naturally large, physically imposing and powerful race of machines with the characteristics of transforming into their vehicle forms, and appear god-like to the human race. Being the vicious leader of the Decepticons, Megatron is one of the most powerful Cybertronian in Cybertron's history. with seemingly only Optimus Prime, formerly his brother-in-arms, and as well both his masters, Sentinel Prime and the Fallen, one of the original Primes, to be his only equals. Following his resurrection as Galvatron he was nearly invincible as he used his heat core chest to burn parts of his body to have a higher heat than usual. In the chest it has a particle weapon that disintegrates anything that goes trough it, including Optimus’s energon swords. He also was able to release his new Decepticons by transferring his essence into them.
- Cybertronian Strength: Due to his imposing size and stature, Megatron possess immense superhuman levels of strength, able to completely dominate any other lesser beings such as Humans, destroying large structures and skycrapers with relative ease. Even among Cybertronians, Megatron's strength is unparelled, as he could physically overpower any Autobots, including ripping one in two pieces. In the first film, he was able to physically dominate Optimus Prime in a fight, forcing his opponent to his knees. In the second film, despite being resurrected in an inferior body, he was still able to somewhat contend with a much more experienced and stronger Optimus, even killing him though admittedly in an unfair way. However, at the end of the movie, he was outclassed and brutally mauled by Optimus. In the third movie, due to his injuries, he largely distance himself from physical confrontration from Optimus, knowing he is far too strong. Despite this, he caught Sentinel Prime off guard and viciously beaten his former master in response to his betrayel, however he was killed by very injured Optimus Prime with little difficulty. In the third movie, Megatron was rebuilt by KSI, in the form of Galvatron. In his new body, reminiscient of his original design, he became vastly stronger than before, and later even match and overpower Optimus Prime. In the fourth movie, Megatron again changed his appearance, though still possessing extreme levels of strength, still able to overpower the Autobots in the majority of their fights. In the final battle, even with his arm being cut off, he still dominates Optimus, with Optimus barely able to defeat him after Megatron was caught off guard.
- Cybertronian Speed: Megatron posses considerable superhuman speed in his Cybertronian form, to the point he is able to match Optimus in combat speed in their confrontation. In his Cybertronian vehicle mode, Megatron in the form of a jet move at immense speed, as he was able to traverse through the stars alone from Cybertron in his search for the Cube. In the second film, his vehicle form which seems to be a hybrid of a jet and a tank, was able to caught up with Optimus in his vehicle mode when the latter was driving at full speed. In the third film he manage to move so quick that he also manage to catch Sentinel off guard, allowing him to deliver a strong and fast beat form to his former master.
- Cybertronian Healing: Due to his cybertronian physiology, Megatron's body is composed of living transformium metal, which has the ability to regenerate and heal itself, even after a serious wound to a certain extent. Optimus inflicted numerous blows and cuts into Megatron with his blade, which while it inflict significant harm on Megatron, he was able to fully recover later on. However, there are limits to this as when Megatron was badly mauled by Optimus at the battle in Egypt, he wasn't able to fully recover as there are many visible wounds on him.
- Cybertronian Durablity: Megatron is extremely durable. Megatron's body is virtually immune to small arms fire from human weapons. He is able to take numerous punches and blows from other cybertronians such as Optimus during their confrontations with relative ease considering a punch from a cybertronian would be on the level of superhuman to a degree. More impressively, in his encounters with the Military, Megatron was still able to fight on despite being bombarded by missile strikes by F-22 Raptor fighter jets, and concentrated fire from Main Battle Tanks, however his armor and body became a shattered mess and the prolonged engagement contributed to his first death.
- Transformation: As a Cybertronian, he is able to switch into his Cybertronian vehicle mode. In the first movie, his vehicle mode is a Cybertronian jet, while in the second film, its a mixture of both a jet and a tank. In the third film, in order to blend in on Earth, his vehicle mode is that of a rusty Mack Titan 10 wheeler fuel tank truck. In the fourth film, his vehicle mode seems to be in the form of Freightliner Argosy truck. In the fourth film while in his new form Galvatron he was able to split into Molecules to change appearance. In the fifth film, he return to his first film's vehicle mode of a Cybertronian like jet.
- Molecular Manipulation: As Galvatron, Megatron's body was constructed out of Transformium, a human-made variety of programmable matter derived from the living metals that Cybertronians are comprised of. Having spread his own code throughout every molecule of Transformium like a virus, Megatron was theoretically capable of transforming into anything he wished, though his only alt-mode in this body was that of a 2014 Freightliner Argosy cab over truck. He is also capable of transmitting his own code to other Transformium-based devices; this allowed him to seize control of every robot KSI had built from the material.
- Master Hand-to-hand Combatant: Being formerly the leader of Cybertron's military forces and later, leader of the Decepticons for thousands of years, Megatron possess extreme skills in martial arts and combat prowesness. He was feared by both Decepticons and Autobots alike, not just due to his cunning and power hungry nature, but also as a warrior. Megatron is one of the most skilled cybertronian combatants in history with only a few was able to match with him, such as Sentinel Prime and more prominently, Optimus, his rival.
- Swordsmanship: Although largely inferior to Optimus, Megatron still possess a degree in the skill of a blade, primarily in his second body after his resurrection in the second film, although he use it in a minimal way. He was able to temporary kill Optimus when he snuck behind him and pierce his spark with his blade. In the fourth film, he possessed a blade axe and was quite proficient in it.
- Master Marksman: Megatron is quite proficient in handling firearms, most notable his signature and dreaded weapon, the fusion cannon. With the use of his extremely potent weapon, he was able to blast Optimus Prime in point blank range, sending him to fly away and crash into the building. He would continue to use his fusion cannon throughout the films with potent results.
- Expert Driver: Naturally having being created with a vehicle mode, Megatron is proficient in utilizing his vehicle modes whether in the form of aircrafts or ground vehicles.

Trivia[]
- Megatron is one of the most powerful Decepticons of all time rivaling his former late master The Fallen. He is renowned as the one who gets his hands dirty, as well as the one cunning enough to have a backup plan. Also, whenever he and his fellow Decepticons are in a battle in any way with Optimus Prime, Megatron is usually the one who always comes into direct combat with Optimus for a broad time and usually the only one who so much as lasts a minute or even dominates his opponent:
- In the first film, Megatron slays Jazz effortlessly and, when he battles Optimus, he is shown to be significantly stronger and overwhelms the Autobot leader rather easily. Megatron is one of the largest Transformers that appear in the film, matching only Optimus Prime, and is incredibly powerful. This incarnation is completely relentless and doesn't yield in a fight even after being repeatedly shot by human fighter jets.
- In Revenge of the Fallen, when he confronts Optimus Prime a second time, the brawl destroys huge amounts of their surroundings, but Optimus still gains the upper hand, forcing Megatron to call for reinforcements so that he can recover before re-entering the clash. In the end, he defeats Optimus through cunning tactics rather than combat skill. He snuck up on the Autobot leader while he was searching for Sam, impaled him with his blade and blew his spark out simultaneously with his cannon, ultimately killing him. At the climax of the film, he pairs up with the Fallen to duel Optimus, but is overpowered due to the Autobot leader's upgraded power mode.
- In Dark of the Moon, during the Battle of Chicago, he brutally injures Sentinel Prime but is soon decapitated by Optimus due to being severely battle-damaged from the prior film.
- In Age of Extinction, Megatron is now in a far more powerful and advanced body than any of his predecessors. He is shown to have much more destructive weaponry as well. During his fight with Optimus Prime, he is shown to match Optimus in a fight relatively easily, and his durability and dexterity means he has an unprecedented but overwhelming advantage. Also, because this incarnation of Megatron does not have a collective 'soul', he is completely incapable of fear and is much harder to kill - he is immune to fatal stab wounds or being thrown over vast distances. The only reason he did not defeat Optimus properly or survived once again was that Lockdown intervened. However, even then Megatron was loosing by the time Lockdown intervened.
- Finally, in The Last Knight, although he has presumably ditched his Transformium ability, his newfound body likely created by Quintessa has extreme durability and while several explosions or rapid machine gunfire may stagger him, he suffers no wounds, only Optimus' sword being able to damage him. In the end, it took all the Autobots combined and Viviane distracting him to defeat him, although they couldn't finish him off, and he presumably survived even his fall from Cybertron and reentry into Earth.
- Megatron scans and transforms into a truck in the third film in order to blend into the humans' everyday lives. This can notably be compared to Optimus' truck vehicle mode.
- Megatron was originally going to named Galvatron after his resurrection in the second film, but he eventually maintained his original name to avoid confusion.
- He did however, assumes the name Galvatron in Age of Extinction upon gaining a Transformium body designed by KSI out of his original body's remains. Megatron had re-assumed his old name by the time he started working for Quintessa and had gained his next body from her.
- Megatron's live-action iteration is arguably among few whose reformation/evolution into Galvatron is at the hands of another party beside Unicron.
- Megatron is the only villain in the film series to have appeared in all five films.
- It is unknown how "Galvatron" becomes Megatron again in the fifth movie with a new form.
- A possible theory is Galvatron at some point met and made a deal with Quintessa after the events of fourth movie, which explains how his newfound body was created.
- There were originally going to be scenes and mentions of Megatron actually eating the sparks (hearts) of his fallen foes, but it was cut for time issues. He also apparently ingests the innards of his enemies in the Nintendo DS version of the game and such an action was performed by him in a book based on the first film.
- In one of the deleted scripts in Dark of the Moon, there is scene where Megatron was supposedly meant to be thrown away by Sentinel Prime from a building.
- In Dark of the Moon movie novelization, after teaming up with Optimus Prime and killing Sentinel Prime, Megatron declared peace and made a truce between Optimus Prime after their battle.
- During the events of The Last Knight, Megatron has the same red mark as the one that Optimus had when Quintessa put him under her control. It is, therefore, possible that he was either controlled or simply made allegiance to Quintessa with the mark as evidence. Evidence suggests he was working willingly with her, his eyes retaining their natural red color, while Optimus (as Nemesis Prime) had purple optics.
- Concept art for Age of Extinction reveals that Galvatron was originally designed to look closer to Optimus Prime, with his head being shaped similar to his.
- This concept went unused/scrapped in the final concept for the fourth movie.
- However in the fifth movie, this concept is reused again.
- This concept went unused/scrapped in the final concept for the fourth movie.
- Concept art for The Last Knight reveals that Megatron was originally intended to transform into a dragon resembling his Beast-Wars counterpart, and he would directly breathe fire from his mouth instead of shooting it from his fusion cannon. His jet mode was also originally intended to be used for one of the Guardian Knights instead.
- Like his previous concept, these went unused/scrapped in the final concept for the fifth movie.
- In second sequel, Megatron obtained his Cybertronian Tank mode with ScrappMetal whose body became new parts to filling his lost parts.
- In the third sequel, after badly wounded by Jetwing Optimus Prime, Megatron scans a truck in video games. Which explained how he got truck mode.
- In the fourth sequel, after becoming Galvatron, he obtained his alt truck mode via Transformium abilities.
- These is the only incarnation of Megatron who uses battle mask.
- Megatron design and roles from fifth films share some similarities with his TF-Prime counterpart:
- Both possessing a Cybertronian Jet mode.
- Both being armed with fusion cannons in their arms.
- Both being armed with a powerful sword.
- Both being responsible for damaging Bumblebee's voice. In the films' case, Megatron presumably destroyed Bumblebee's voice offscreen.
- Both revealed to be Optimus Prime's former brother-in-arms.
- Scourge would later take Megatron's DOTM truck in Rise of the Beasts, but lacked the trailer.
- Like his previous concept, these went unused/scrapped in the final concept for the fifth movie.
