Quote "You know that glow that is starting to blink in the corner of your eye? That's your career dissipation light, it just went into overtime."

Martin Swayzak is the main antagonist of the 1991 film Backdraft. He was portrayed by the late J.T. Walsh.

Early life[]

Not a whole lot is known about Martin's early life, except that he was born in Chicago, Illinois.

Education[]

It is unknown which school he attended either. However, it is assumed that he majored in political education. Afterwards, he pursued his dream to become Alderman for the city of Chicago in order to defeat Richard Daley (who served from 1989 to 2011) in the mayoral election.

His crimes[]

Martin is an extremely controversial figure in the City of Chicago and is notorious for closing firehouses for budget cuts which ultimately resulted in the deaths of several firefighters and he embezzled money from the fire department. He hired three men named Alan Seagrave, Donald Cosgrove and Jeffrey Holcomb to create a fake manpower study. Martin is also notorious for lying to the news and the Chicago Fire Department. On the day Martin was giving a press conference, he got a surprise visit from Donald Rimgale, Brian McCaffrey and the Chicago Police Department and was questioned why he secretly paid his friends to create a fake manpower study and question him who made money off of the deaths of multiple firefighters (including Brian's brother, Stephen McCaffrey and fellow firefighter John Adcox).
