Margaret Booth is the main antagonist of American Horror Story: 1984. She is the real mass murderer of the 1970 Red Wood Camp massacre, the one who incriminated her friend Benjamin Richter. At first she was the director of Camp Wood, she was portrayed as a religious fanatic, but still a neutral character until it was revealed that she was the real mass murderer and not Richter.

Background[]
Prior to the events of the series, Margaret had a good friendship with Benjamin Richter at Camp Redwood. But many counselors then pleaded with her in retaliation. Margaret killed everyone at Camp Redwood and blamed Richter because he vowed to protect her, and used his past as a military war veteran as a scapegoat and thus created an altenative version of the facts that happened. According to history, she is the sole survivor of the massacre of the nine counselors in the year 1970. And during that incident, she described leaving her body as Benjamin Richter who was also known as Mr. Jingles. The massacre changed Margaret's life so much that she was turned religious, and she reprimands the sinful actions of the councilors. She also stated that she was reborn during the massacre. And that in a final analysis she also reopened Camp Redwood using her late husband's fortune.
1984[]
During the events of 1984. When Mr. Jingles gets out of fail with the help of his psychiatrist Donna Chambers. And that same day, Richard Ramirez on the command of Montana Duke goes to camp to kill Brooke. However amid the chaos and killings committed by Richter, Margaret turns out to be a murderer when he kills her husband Trevor Kirchner, and in the middle of the story it is revelead that the real killer in the 1970s was Margaret Booth and not Richter, she stabs Richter, but apparently he survives. In the midst of this, she leaves Chet Clancy who was mortally wounded to die in the water, and kills Xavier Plympton, and after she's all dead, she incriminates Brooke Thompson for the murders and she is arrested.
In other words, when Brooke was sentenced to death along with Ramirez. However, Brooke refused Ramirez's offer to leave prison to make a deal with Devil. Margaret was present on the day of her execution. But it was later revealed that her death was false and that the injection they gave her was to fake her death thanks to Rita. She then formed an alliance with Ramirez and Bruce to kill Mr. Jingles and his son. In the end she was killed by the ghosts she killed and forced to stay at Camp Redwood forever.
Personality[]
At the beginning of the series, she was portrayed as a devout Christian and religious fanatic of God. However behind this mask, she turned out to be mostly healthy during Brooke's execution. She is also cruel and manipulative since she incriminated Mr. Jingles for the crimes, and killed Plympton and her ex-husband Trevor Kirchner and even left Chet Clancy to die in the water when he was severely wounded to death to by Mr. Jingles.
