The Lower Surrey Street Kids are the main antagonists of the 2018 comedy book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown, the 13th installment in Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise.
They are a group of children inhabiting Lower Surrey Street who harass the Upper Surrey Street kids for trying to play sports on their land. During the winter months, however, they try to sneak onto Upper Surrey Street to use the hill for sledding.
History[]
Past[]
The Lower and Upper Surrey Street kids had been enemies for long before the series started. The Lower Surrey Kids lived on flat land, which was prime for sports and other outside activities. Unfortunately for the Upper Surrey Street, they were incredibly defensive of their territory, physically attacking anyone trying to use it, including small children. During the winter months, however, the Lower Surrey Street Kids attempt to use the hill on Upper Surrey Street for sledding, though its inhabitants usually retaliate, forcing them to resort to absurd tactics. At some point, Trevor Nix moved from Upper to Lower Surrey Street, though he was harassed and forced to stay indoors.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown[]
While the Upper Surrey Street kids fought amongst themselves, the Lower Surrey kids sled down their precious hill. United against a common enemy, the Uppers constructed a massive wall out of snow. Dumbfounded, the Lowers were soon assaulted by snowballs.
They returned shortly after, this time wearing sports equipment as armor. They tried to take down the wall by force, at one point sending the 5th grade football team to knock it over, but the wall still stood. Their next plan was to starve the Upper Kids, and while it was more successful than their last endeavor, their enemies still held their ground.
Now playing mind games, they had Trevor Nix go to the wall. Trevor told the Uppers that he was being held prisoner by the Lower Surrey Street Kids, and that he overheard they were planning a massive assault. Half of the Uppers went to the Guzzman's yard, the supposed location of the Lowers, to stop them there and then, though they soon realized it was a trick and that the area was completely empty.
Back at the wall, the Lower Surrey Street Kids staged a full frontal assault, and with significantly less soldiers to defend it, the wall fell. Things soon devolved into an all out brawl on the ground, which was interrupted by the arrival of the Safety Patrols. The Surrey Street kids teamed up to fight the Safety Patrols, though numerous Surrey Street Girls switched sides. Things became a free for all when the Whirly Street Kids joined the fight, having been kicked off of their gold course.
The battle finally reorganized when the Mingos awoke from their supposed hibernation. The Mingos were hated by everyone in the neighborhood, so all the children, excluding a cowardly Greg and Rowley, fought them off. Things had an anticlimactic end when the snowplow driver finally plowed the street, nearly killing everyone. After this, the Lower Surrey Street Kids went home. They were later seen playing sports with Trevor Nix, who had since been adopted into their group for his contribution.
