~ Jade West confronting Tori. |
Jade West is the main antagonist and an on-and-off anti-hero of the Nickelodeon TV show Victorious. She’s Tori's nemesis, Beck's girlfriend and Cat's best friend.
She was portrayed by Elizabeth Gillies, who also portrays Callie Ross in Killing Daddy, Fallon Carrington in the 2017 Dynasty reboot and Catwoman in Catwoman: Hunted.
Biography[]
Background[]
Jade was shown to be a ill-tempered girl when Tori first meets her, angry that Tori was apparently flirting with her boyfriend Beck Oliver. When Tori got back at her by kissing Beck in their Alphabetical Improv exercise in class, this exasperates her deeply, likely branding a deep resentment for Tori ever since "Pilot".
Little is known about how Jade came to be as such, although it has been shown that this attitude may have a connection with Jade's father as Tori described him as cold and judgmental upon meeting him after watching Jade's play. Her father was indeed stern and distant, which may explain how Jade became who she is.
Personality[]
Jade appears to be very goth and/or punk and very rebellious in her attitude as the way she dresses, due to her trademark black hair with blue highlights, green eyes and black manicure. She is a very mean girl, a bully who likes to get ahead, equally possessive of her boyfriend Beck and tends to get jealous easily. Even after Jade and Beck broke up the second time she still displayed signs of envy, although they differed over time, and she easily slipped back into them after they got back together.
Jade is very vengeful, having shown to threaten physical violence towards anyone who triggers her hatred towards many things. She scares André even when he was not a target and took her revenge out on Cat after the latter waxed her eyebrows off by accident resulting in Jade shaving Cat bald.
When Tori was set to play Steamboat Suzy in Sikowitz's play, Jade was cast as Tori's understudy instead of the lead role. This enrages her, making her desperate enough to do all sorts of actions to get Tori away from the play so she can play Suzy instead. Her desperation to get her goal involves harming Tori in all ways and even breaking the law to some extent, having found out Tori's medical records and leading Tori astray from the performance. She gets her just desserts though, as Tori, albeit weakened from the whole ordeal, plays Steamboat Suzy's role in the play whereas Sikowitz takes on Suzy, shocking everyone including Jade.
Jade has a passion for scissors and other weird or morbid things such as pain, a lump of fat, monkey fur and blood. She also has a fetish for breathing in the fumes of dead people. She’s shallow and wants to date the hottest guys available, given Beck and notably his friend Moose by sharing their common interest in horror movies. She even possibly wants to harm Tori, driving her out to the desert instead of school with a shovel in the backseat of her car, potentially intending to bury her alive.
Jade often attacks Tori, because she supposedly is a threat to steal either Beck or her thunder away from her. This doesn’t extend to all instances though, as eventually the two seem to show a mutual level of understanding that potentially makes them friendly, or frenemies. Sometimes to annoy Tori, she does an impression of her sounding similar to a southern girl like Scarlett O'Hara. In defense, Tori claims that very impression of her, resembling a movie star from the 1940’s, sounding nothing like her.
She scares a lot of people, especially nerds like Sinjin van Cleef around. Usually no guy would date her because they’re scared of her or she would intimidate them. She’s known to bully Robbie Shapiro and Cat Valentine, but she tolerates them (mostly Cat, since she’s her only friend). Following her second breakup with Beck, Tori, Robbie, André and Cat usually side with him, as they are his friends and Jade just came with the package. Sometimes they do hang out with her, with or without Beck.
Beck is the straight one, next to Jade's antics. The only reason Beck dates her is because he needs someone like Jade to challenge him or share their opinion. She tends to be envious when other girls throw themselves to Beck whom she sees as too easy-going to defend his position of being in a relationship with her.
