Lisa, whatever female-driven, emotion-based dilemma you may be dealing with right now, you have my sympathy. But for the sake of time and sanity, let's break this down into a little male-driven, fact-based logic. One simple phone call saves your dad's life.
~ Rippner threatening to kill Lisa's father

Jackson Rippner is the main antagonist of the 2005 thriller film Red Eye. He is a terrorist who tries to force Lisa Reisert to help him assassinate a diplomat by threatening to kill her father.

He is portrayed by Cillian Murphy, who also portrayed The Scarecrow in the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Overview[]

Rippner works with a domestic terrorist group that wants to assassinate Director of Homeland Security Charles Keefe. To do that, Rippner needs Lisa Reiser, the manager of the hotel where Keefe is staying with his family, to move them to a room where his underlings can kill them by firing a missile into the room. Rippner stalks Lisa for weeks to learn her routine and profile her so as to better manipulate her into doing what he wants.

Rippner books the seat next to Lisa's on a red-eye flight to Miami, where she is planning to visit her father, Joe. When the flight is delayed, Rippner contrives a "chance meeting" with Lisa, and has a drink with her at the airport bar. She finds him charming, if a little strange, and is pleasantly surprised later on to find that he is sitting in the seat on the plane next to hers. He shows his true colors, however, after he reveals what he wants her to do. When she refuses, he threatens to signal an assassin parked outside of Joe's house, who will then kill him.

Lisa tries to write a message to another passenger to expose Rippner, but he intercepts it and discreetly knocks her unconscious. When she wakes up, she calls her coworker Cynthia to pretends to make the room change, but Rippner sees through her and threatens to kill Joe. Lisa asks him to let her use the bathroom, where she writes a fake bomb threat on the mirror with soap in an attempt to get the plane to land. Rippner goes into the bathroom to check on her, sees the message, and wipes it off while roughing her up. He notices a scar on her chest, but she refuses to tell him how she got it. The flight attendant see them leaving the bathroom together, but dismiss them as a couple "joining the mile high club".

Back in their seats, Lisa reluctantly calls Cynthia to make the room change for real. She begs Rippner to call off the assassin, but he refuses to do so until the assassination is carried out. When the plane lands, Lisa tells Rippner that she got the scar two years earlier when a man raped her at knifepoint, and that after the attack she swore to herself that it would never happen again. She then stabs Rippner in the throat with a pen and runs off the plane, with the wounded Rippner in hot pursuit.

Lisa calls Cynthia and tells her to get Keefe and his family out of the room; they are evacuated just before Rippner's minion fires a missile in trhe room, causing massive damage to the hotel. Lisa steals a car and drives to her father's house, and runs over and kills the assassin just as he is about to kill Joe. Rippner catches up to Lisa and chases her around the house after knocking Joe out. He pushes her down the stairs, and is about to kill her when Joe, having regained consciousness, shoots him dead.
