Ivan the Doorman (or just Ivan) is the secondary antagonist of Imagine Entertainment's 1st animated feature film Curious George, a minor antagonist in the 2006 video game adaption of the same name, and a minor character in Curious George 2: Follow that Monkey and Curious George: Royal Monkey. He is a doorman in Ted Shackleford's apartment in New York with a thick Russian accent who strictly follows his "no-pet" policy, with him kicking out whoever owns the pet out of the apartment, with the pet being sent back to the pound.
He was voiced by Ed O'Ross.
Biography[]
Curious George (2006)[]
Ivan is first seen in the main hall of the apartment building where he is greeting by Ted, which is followed by a slight growl by him. After George reveals to Ted that he followed him all the way back from Africa to New York, Ivan starts to smell a "pet" through the vents, and suspects that Ted has one. He goes through all of the floors at the apartment and sniffs each one to see if there is a pet, but to no avail. He then stops at Ted's floor and goes to knock on his door (7-10-B), telling him to open up. Ted then notices this and goes to hide George in the bathroom, and tells him to stay there, with the monkey of course not listening, as he leaves anyway through the vent.
At Ted's door, Ivan tells the former that he smells a pet. Ted tries to stall him, claiming that he has no pet due to him being aware of the no-pet policy, but it doesn't work as Ivan enters his house anyway without permission and shoves him out of the way. While he continues to search for the "pet", Ted makes a distraction by throwing some things at the window blinds to keep Ivan from finding the monkey easier.
Eventually, Ivan does find that Ted has a pet monkey in Miss Plushbottom's room, saying that he knew it all along. Ted tries to deny once again, but the monkey has made a painting of him and Ted on the wall, revealing that he is his pet. Now that Ted cannot deny any further, Ivan then chases them out of the apartment, telling Ted that he his kicked from the building, in which the latter replies saying that he would much rather have the monkey kicked out and not him, but Ivan kicks him out anyway, forcing the two to sleep outside in a park.
At the end of the film, Ivan finds Ted and tells him that he actually likes the painting George did on his back, and lets him back into his apartment after he had found the real Lost Shrine of Zagawa, redeeming himself.
Video Game[]
Ivan also appears in the 2006 video game adaption of the same name, where he only appears in the level Apartment Antics, where George must get to the end of the hall without being seen by him. When George is in the bathroom, he repeatedly knocks on the door telling him to open up as he knows he's in there, and that once he gets the door open, George will go to the pound and Ted will be evicted from his apartment. The knocking causes one of the vents to open up, in which George escapes in. George then disguises as a little girl and helps the painter find his paintbrushes in order to not be recognized by Ivan, in which the latter calls him "ugly". After the bubble minigame where George must pop all of the bubbles before they float away in Miss Plushbuttom's room, he kicks George and Ted out of the apartment just like in the movie, forcing the two to sleep outside in a park, which is where the next level takes place.
Personality[]
Ivan is shown to be a cranky, yet also very strict doorman who enforces his "no-pet" policy on others, as he dislikes pets. At the end of the film however, he became friendlier as he liked the painting George did on his back, also allowing Ted to move back into his apartment.
Abilities[]
- Agility - Ivan is shown to move quite fast, such as when he chases Ted through Miss Plushbottom's room until they leave by jumping out the window.
- Brute strength - Ivan is also shown to be very strong, such as when Ted accidentally slams a door on his face, with him not even being hurt by this, as only the door breaks.
- Special scent - Ivan can smell any pet/animal, even through vents.
