Howard and Harold McBride are the supporting characters of the Nickelodeon animated series The Loud House. They are adoptive fathers of Clyde McBride and notable for being the first pair of married same-gender characters in Nicktoons history. Due to their overprotective, they were played an antagonistic role in some episodes.

They are overprotective of their son and very rarely let him do anything unsupervised, treating him more like a bubble boy. Howard (who has red hair and buck teeth) has a tendency to get overemotional while watching Clyde grow up, to the point that his husband often needs to calm him down. Harold (who has thinning black hair and wears a sweater vest with a bow tie) is more calm and collected of the couple and is also a skilled chef.

Howard is voiced by Michael McDonald. Harold is also voiced by Wayne Brady in S1 E09A to S6 E11A and currently Khary Payton. In the live-action series, they were portrayed by Justin Michael Stevenson and Marcus Folmar in A Loud House Christmas as well as Stephen Guarino and Ray Ford in The Really Loud House.

Biographies[]

Howard and Harold live with their son Clyde and their two pet cats, Cleopawtra and Nepurrtiti, in a single-story building across the street from the Loud House. They drive a big red van with a license plate that reads "McRide" on it. Their surname is ironic because a bride is a newlywed woman, but they are two married men.

Often mentioned by Clyde, their first appearance was in "Overnight Success", in which they walk their son over to the Loud family's house for a sleepover. They are also the main protagonists of the episode "Attention Deficit", in which they try to help Lincoln with his science project, but get annoyed when the girls start asking for help. In "Baby Steps", Clyde overhears Howard and Harold talking and thinks they are going to adopt another baby. However, it ends up being a misunderstanding; they were really talking about getting another pet cat. They visit a bed-and-breakfast in "Roughin' It". In the episode, Lincoln and Clyde get lost in the woods and must work together to make their way back to the Dads.

It is revealed in "The Green House" that Howard and Harold care deeply for the environment and use solar panels on their house. "Hand-Me-Downer" shows that they own a tandem bicycle. In "ARGGH! You for Real?", they enlist Lincoln's help to restore Clyde's faith in ghost hunting after finding out that their favorite show, ARGGH!, is completely staged. In "Health Kicked", Howard and Harold train to compete in a Royal Woods ninja competition.

Appearances[]

Howard has buck teeth, reddish hair, a long pointy nose, and a long oval-shaped head. He also has bags around his eyes, probably from worrying too much. He wears brown slacks, white sneakers, and a red collared shirt with rolled-up sleeves and four buttons. In "Kick the Bucket List", he is shown to wear a blue sleep mask. In a live stream from Nickelodeon on February 2017, Chris Savino drew the Dads' original designs. Howard was shown with curly hair and otherwise identical features.

Harold is a round man, with dark skin and black hair. His hair appears to be thinning and is very short compared to Howard's height and his hair. He wears a blue/teal sweater vest, with a black bow tie, and a light blue shirt underneath. He also sports a pair of jeans and brown loafer shoes. In a live stream from Nickelodeon on February 2017, Chris Savino drew the Dads' original designs. Harold was shown to be bald and have no chin outline, but otherwise, his features were identical.

They forces Clyde to wear his mosquito hat to prevent him from walking too far. Later at the airport after Clyde explaining to his fathers what happened, Howard and Harold reveals that they have set up a security cam in their house to record Clyde's freedom which they watched him the whole time. At the end, they now let Clyde be independent by letting him to have pickles before breakfast.
