Adam Sutler is the main antagonist of the 2006 film V for Vendetta. He is the leader of the fascist Norsefire Party and dictator of a dystopian England. He is loosely based upon Adam Susan, the villain of the graphic novel upon which the film is based, and real-life Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
He is portrayed by the late John Hurt.
History[]
In the film, Sutler is a young and promising politician and also a religious man and a member of the conservative party. Sutler is elected as prime minister with a promise to restore the county after terrorists killed 80,000 people with self-ignited boarma that created a viral epidemic. After that, as well as other historical and real figures, Sutler used the terrorist threat for his own benefit and in conjunction with an ongoing propaganda campaign by the state media, to calm the population and nominate himself as a High Chancellor, and transform the country into a one-party state with himself as an autocrat.
Although, Sutler is in fact the main antagonist, he is only seen communicating with his superior council on a screen, he only appears in person when he is killed. Sutler discovers that a presenter named Gordon Dietrich is lambooning him, so angrily Sutler orders his death.
However, he later in the end is betrayed by his right-hand man, Peter Creedy, whom he blames and calls him incompent. However, tired of his boss Creedy decides to betray him and he and his men kidnap him and beat him up, then Creedy kills him with a point-blank shot.
