Henry Emily, also known as the Cassette Man, is the overarching protagonist of the ScottGames era of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
He was the Co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment, which he created with his business partner William Afton, and designed the technology for the animatronics. After Afton murdered his daughter Charlotte, he would dedicate his life to searching for him and his victims and rectifying his sins, gaining the help of William's son Michael in the last year of their lives. While he is portrayed as a hero he still has done some things which can make him a minor antagonist. He is the arch enemy of William Afton.
He was voiced by Dave Steele.
Appearance[]
According to his depiction in the FNAF Official Character Encyclopedia, Henry was a fair-skinned man with green eyes and brown hair that made up a mullet and a chinstrap beard. He wore an orange-chequered shirt, blue overalls, a brown belt with a bag attached to it, and brown shoes. It's possible that the depiction was based on his appearance in the 1980s and prior, so it's still unknown what he looked liked in 2015 - 2023.
History[]
Past[]
Not much is known about Henry's past, apart from the fact he founded Fazbear Entertainment with his best friend/ business partner William Afton. The two partnered with Edwin Murray Jr. sometime in the mid 60s to early 70s so he could create stuff for Fazbear Entertainment and while he had thought they were friends, William and Henry ended up running his business into the ground and taking everything from him.
In 1983, William's son the Crying Child lost his life when his head was shoved inside of Fredbear's mouth by his brother and his brother's friends. William got drunk sometime later and later ran over Charlie, which led to her being possessed by the Puppet.
Afton later committed five more murders in 1985, causing the Missing Children Incident. After both Freddy's and Fredbear's closed down, Henry left the company. Years or even decades later, he finally found out that William murdered the children and that they are possessing the animatronics. Although contemplating suicide due to his guilt, Henry decided that he first needs to fix everything before dying.
Henry knew that he had to work to free the souls of the children, Henry eventually masterminded a plan to have an unknowing volunteer begin owning and operating a pizzeria so that he may gather all of the remaining possessed animatronics in one place, where he could then destroy them and liberate the souls. Henry hired Afton's son Michael to help with his plan. Originally planning a way out for him, Henry eventually scrapped the idea as he thought Michael wished for death, although kept him in the dark about his true intentions.
Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator[]
Using a cassette player, Henry instructs Michael on how to operate the restaurant and how to complete salvage of the animatronics he left in the alley, feigning the fact that their origins were unknown. He made sure to gather all of the animatronics, including Springtrap, in the restaurant by a certain day.
| “ | Before you is an animatronic found in the back alley, we are unsure of its origins. It is your job to complete the maintenance checklist before claiming it as salvage. Or if you choose to you can put it back in the alley where you found it and forfeit payment. Please make your choice now. | „ |

Completion/True Ending[]
In the game's Completion Ending, all of the animatronics are gathered together, and Henry comes on for one last transmission. He explains his plans and why he believes this is the only way to solve the problems of the past. He pleads with the souls in the animatronics to find peace except for William who Henry tells him that hell awaits him.
| “ | Connection terminated. I'm sorry to interrupt you Elizabeth, if you still even remember that name. But I'm afraid you've been misinformed. You are not here to receive a gift, nor have you been called here by the individual you assume. Although you have indeed been called. You have all been called here. Into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection and misfortune. A labyrinth with no exit, a maze with no prize. You don't even realize that you are trapped. Your lust for blood has driven you in endless circles, chasing the cries of children in some unseen chamber, always seeming so near, yet somehow out of reach. But you will never find them, none of you will. This is where your story ends. And to you, my brave volunteer, who somehow found this job listing not intended for you. Although there was a way out planned for you, I have a feeling that's not what you want. I have a feeling that you are right where you want to be. I am remaining as well, I am nearby. This place will not be remembered, and the memory of everything that started this can finally begin to fade away. As the agony of every tragedy should. And to you monsters trapped in the corridors: Be still and give up your spirits, they don't belong to you. For most of you, I believe there is peace and perhaps more waiting for you after the smoke clears. Although, for one of you, the darkest pit of Hell has opened to swallow you whole, so don't keep the devil waiting, old friend. My daughter, if you can hear me, I knew you would return as well. It's in your nature to protect the innocent. I'm sorry that on that day, the day you were shut out and left to die, no one was there to lift you up into their arms the way you lifted others into yours. And then, what became of you. I should have known you wouldn't be content to disappear, not my daughter. I couldn't save you then, so let me save you now. It's time to rest. For you, and for those you have carried in your arms. This ends for all of us today. End communication. | „ |

He reveals that the Puppet is possessed by his daughter, who was William‘s first known victim. He apologizes to his daughter for not being there at the time of her death to save her, before declaring that it is time for all of the tragedies surrounding Fazbear Entertainment to be put to rest. As he monologues, he lights the place on fire, burning the animatronics, Michael, and himself in the process. Fazbear Entertainment was then shut down.
Henry, however, didn't expect one thing; one of the vengeful soul inside Golden Freddy wouldn't let William die and forcefully kept him alive in Purgatory.
Insanity Ending[]
In the Insanity Ending where the player accesses the Egg Baby Data Archive, they hear Henry confessing to what he has done, but that he plans to make things right. Upon reporting what they have learned, the player's character is deemed insane and sent to receive a lobotomy.
| “ | I-It's only now that I understand the depth of the depravity of this...creature - this Monster that I unwillingly helped to create. As if what he had already done wasn't enough, he found a new way to desecrate, to humiliate, to destroy. As if the suffering wasn't enough, the loss of innocence, the loss of everything to so many people. Small souls trapped in prisons of my making now set to new purpose and used in ways I never thought imaginable. He lured them all back. Back to a familiar place. Back with familiar tricks. He brought them all together. Are they still...aware? I hope not. It keeps me awake at night. I could make myself...sleep. But not yet. Not until I undo what he has done and heal this wound - a wound first inflicted on me, but then one that I let bleed out to cause all of this. He set some kind of trap. I don't know what it was, but he lead them there again. He overpowered them again. And he robbed them of the only thing that they had. Again. I don't know how those tiny breaths of life came to inhabit those machines. But they will never find rest now. Not like this. I have to call them all back. All of them. Together in one place. |

Bad Ending[]
If none of the possessed animatronics are salvaged, Henry will say that requirements of the player's job were not met, and will fire the player's character. It's implied that Henry kills himself afterwards out of grief.
| “ | Congratulations on completing the week, unfortunately you did not meet your special obligations under Paragraph 4. Your employment is terminated, we'll mail you your things. End Tape. | „ |

Personality[]
Henry is shown to be very serious and stern, showing little to no actual emotion during his screen time and is very indifferent towards everything happening in the restaurant. However deep down Henry is a tormented, remorseful and regretful man haunted by his own guilt and agony. He feels as though he was somewhat responsible for all the tragedies that took place as he trusted and enabled his business partner William Afton which ultimately led to him killing almost a dozen children starting with his own daughter, Charlotte, in-fact her death specifically tormented Henry the most to the point where decades later he still regrets not being able to save her.Over the years Henry was forced to live with his actions and remorse, in fact this trauma runs so deep he claims he couldn’t even sleep at night and heavily contemplated committing suicide. However he showcased himself to have an iron will, vowing to stay alive as he was the only one who could finally put a stop to William’s machinations for good, showcasing himself to have an iron will. Henry shows signs of vengefulness and spite having hoped that Afton would suffer in hell for his actions and didn’t even consider the man to be human anymore calling him a creature and a monster. Henry even expressed his hope that William would be cast into the darkest pit of hell for his actions.
Henry was also implied to have been a very creative and imaginative inventor having personally built the original animatronics for Fredbear’s Family Diner and Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and was even the one who came up with idea of springlocks suits to make the animatronics more lifelike. Although it was later confirmed that Afton was responsible for these ideas and robots.
What makes him an Antagonist?[]
While Henry may seem like he is a good hearted man, he is actually somewhat selfish. He only sets the location on fire to free his daughter and to put an end to his own pain, with the other animatronics and Michael just being extra bonuses. However, Henry's plan ultimately failed when he invertedly created "the Blob". In Secret of the Mimic, Henry serves at one of the two overarching antagonists, as he and William ruined Murray's Costume Manor and stole everything from him, which leads to Edwin's breakdown and eventual death at the hands of the Mimic.
