Golden Freddy is a major antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, with his biggest role being in Ultimate Custom Night, as he is theorised to be the overarching antagonist of the game.

History[]

Note: Given that the Five Nights at Freddy's story is told out of chronological order, the history of Golden Freddy is presented in the order the events occur to him.

Backstory[]

Golden Freddy may be Fredbear, the original mascot of Fredbear's Family Diner. Two kids called Cassidy and Micheal Brooks were presumably lured by William Afton in the Spring Bonnie costume to the Safe Room, and were murdered, then were stuffed into the Golden Freddy suit. Afterwards, the Puppet allowed Cassidy to possess Golden Freddy. Due to the smell from the bodies, the animatronics were put in storage, but kept for spare parts.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2[]

The company tried to repair Golden Freddy and the others, fitting them with facial recognition software, but they were deemed ugly, so were left for spare parts in the Parts/Service room. Withered Golden Freddy was presumably among the animatronics who attacked William when he infiltrated the Pizzeria as a security guard. In the minigame SAVETHEM, Golden Freddy can be seen in various rooms, disappearing if Freddy comes near to him.

Withered Golden Freddy becomes active on Night 6, and can teleport to the Office hallway in the form of a floating head, or within the Office itself to kill the next night guarld, eremy Fitzgerald. Jeremy fends him off by putting on the Freddy Head the moment he sees Freddy inside The Office, fooling the facial recognition. As well as this, Jeremy could turn off the Flashlight while Golden Freddy was in the hall. After Fritz Smith's shift on Night 7, where the animatronic's AI levels are altered, Golden Freddy, along with the other original animatronics, is kept, and repaired for the next Pizzeria.

Golden Freddy appears in his FNaF 1 form in the Night 3 cutscene. Here, standing up, he looks at Freddy, who is the players point of view, alongside Bonnie and Chica.

Five Nights at Freddy's 1[]

Despite being repaired, Golden Freddy is not used in the animatronic line up. Golden Freddy's jumpscare could be heard cutting off Phone Guy's Night 4 phone call, implying he was the one who killed him.

During Mike Schmidt's shift, Golden Freddy is not openly attacking him. However he does turn up as an easter egg. When checking CAM 2B, the Freddy poster can change into a Golden Freddy poster, accompanied by a giggle from either Cassidy or Micheal Brooks, at which point Golden Freddy appears in the Office. The only way Mike can save himself is by flicking the monitor up, which causes Golden Frddy to vanish.

Five Nights at Freddy's 3[]

Golden Freddy is implied to the the soul that is the protagonist on the Night 5 minigame. The child makes their way to the Safe Room where the souls of the other MCI victims are blocking the exit from the terrified William. They chase him around the room, until William tries to protect himself by putting on the Spring Bonnie suit. Golden Freddy appears in Happiest Day. Here, the child possessing him is standing behind a table. They are given cake by the Puppet, and, after the Golden Freddy mask appears on the child's face, they vanish, leaving the mask behind.

UCN[]

Withered Golden Freddy appears as a customisable animatronic in Ultimate Custom Night. Withered Golden Freddy will occasionally teleport in the Office in his usual slumped form. There are two ways to fend him off. The first involves flicking the monitor up. The second involves putting on the Freddy Head to make him disappear. If the protagonist fails, Golden Freddy kills him.

It is heavily implied the the soul within Golden Freddy was the one who set up Ultimate Custom Night as William's personal hell after the events of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. They are referred to are "The one you should not have killed", and can occasionally be seen smiling maliciously at William. They also seemingly speak though Happy Frog, Nedd Bear, and Orville Elephant, leaving William vengeful messages. They are referred to as the Vengeful Spirit when doing this.

The final cutscene reveals Golden Freddy in his FNaF 1 twitching constantly within pitch blackness. It is unclear whether the soul is moving on or not.

Trivia[]

  • The Bad Ending of FNaF 3 features a obscured head in the background which is speculated to be Golden Freddy's. It would fit thematically with Golden Freddy's ghastly attributes and with him being "hidden in the back" by the company. In the Good Ending, the head is absent, presumably due to not being a physical entity.
  • Many fans have theorized that Golden Freddy is the Crying Child, using evidence such as the Happiest Day minigame. However there are many clues that contradict this, such as the problem of what happened to the fifth victim of the Missing Children's Incident.
  • In the novel series, who does not take place in the same continuity as the games, Golden Freddy is possessed by Michael Brooks.
  • Golden Freddy's name was not revealed in FFPS' Lorekeeper ending, like the others, as the gravestone that applied to him could not be read. However, the Survival Logbook implied Golden Freddy's name is Cassidy. The name Cassidy was used in the novels to refer to a black haired girl. There is a illustration in the Logbook that matches up with this description. However in Ultimate Custom Night, Golden Freddy is heavily implied to be "The One you shouldn't have killed", but The One is referred to as male, and is depicted as a blond haired boy. This means the soul's gender is unclear, thus the soul is referred to as they in this article.
