Gideon Grey

Gideon Grey is a male red fox and a minor antagonist-turned-supporting character in the Disney animated movie Zootopia.

As a child, Gideon was a bully who may not have been as educated as other children. He heckled Judy Hopps during her performance in the school play about wanting to be a police officer when she grew up. At the county fair after the play, Gideon and his friends cornered several children and took the tickets from them they won by playing carnival games.

Judy walked over and calmly demanded Gideon give the tickets back. Instead, he mocked her and pushed her to the ground, and she retaliated by kicking him in the face. Angered, Gideon scratches Judy's cheek with his claws, drawing blood, and derides her, snarling that she'll never be anything more than "just a stupid, carrot farming dumb bunny". He then leaves with Travis, feeling satisfied and completely unaware that Judy managed to slip the tickets out of his pocket and return them to her friends.

Years later after Judy returned to her family farm, Gideon drove up in his Gideon Grey's Real Good Baked Stuff van with a delivery of pies for the Hopps' produce stand. Judy is surprised to see him and even more surprised when her parents inform her they're in business with him and wouldn't have even considered doing it if it hadn't been for Judy's determination to join the Zootopia Police Department.

To her amazement, Gideon offers a sincere apology for his earlier behavior. He told her, "Hey, Judy, I-I'd just like to say I'm sorry for the way I-I-I behaved in my youth. I-I had lot of self-doubt, and it manifested itself in the form of unchecked rage and aggression. I was a major jerk." Judy accepts the apology and admits she can relate to it.

Immediately afterward, they hear Judy's parents warn her younger siblings to stay away from some flowers that had been planted as a bug repellent. Upon hearing the scientific name of Midnicampum holicithias, Gideon comments they were usually called "Night howlers" due to their effects on mammal behavior. Armed with this information, Judy excitedly hurried back to Zootopia to solve the case that originally led to her resignation.
