~ Geras to the past Liu Kang and Kung Lao. |
Geras is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Cetrion) of Mortal Kombat 11, and a supporting antagonist in its DLC story mode, Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. He is an immortal artificial construct who is a creation and servant to Kronika, the Titan/Goddess of Time, serving as her main enforcer. Geras, while a villain, shows signs throughout both the story and gameplay of having a more honorable side, unlike his callous master.
In Mortal Kombat 11, he is voiced by Dave B. Mitchell, who also voiced Sektor in the same game, Shocker in Marvel's Spider-Man, and Lonato Gildas Gaspard in Fire Emblem Three Houses. In Mortal Kombat 1, he is voiced by Phil LaMarr, who also voiced Vamp and John White.
Biography[]
Mortal Kombat 11[]
An immortal construct, Geras is millennia old and has died a myriad of times, with each revival strengthening him. With his long life, he has experienced many events, such as the Ice Age and the Great Kung Lao’s defeat by Goro.
First seen when gathering the Jinsei hidden beneath the Shaolin Temple (secretly needed for the Hourglass), the past versions of Liu Kang and Kung Lao meet him there and defeat their present versions. Geras tries to stop the two from halting his duty, but Lao quickly cuts his head off with his hat. However, Geras reanimates himself, explaining that he is a fixed moment in time. He fights the duo and is defeated, but Kronika appears and freezes time on the duo. The two leave, and although Geras wishes to kill the heroes, Kronika denies his request, as she needs their present versions to help in her scheme.
After Sub-Zero and Scorpion lay waste to the Cyber Lin Kuei Assembly plant, Geras manages to convince both versions of Kano to join Kronika's side, for the promise of a hefty payday and for the Black Dragon Clan to be a massive group in the rebirth of the world. He then repairs Sektor, quickly asking him if his design can be mass produced. After both Kanos accept the duty to repair Sektor and make more Cyber Lin Kuei, he reminds the past Erron Black that they will receive what they earned. He then watches their interactions with Kano's present self who also joined in for the sake of taking over every market.
After the Special Forces free the past versions of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, Geras appears and destroys numerous soldiers on the way to the Cages, wishing to wipe Cassie away from existence. Geras, however, fails and is destroyed, his targets fleeing as he revives.
As Raiden leads the Shaolin, Outworld's forces, and the Special Forces to attack Kronika's Keep on the Isle of Kronika itself, Geras appears and fights Raiden in attempt to deter him from Kronika. Although he tells Raiden he cannot die, Raiden chains him to an anchor and pushes him into the bottomless Sea of Blood, where Geras is doomed to sink for all eternity.
Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath[]
Suspicious with the familiar outsiders, Geras alerted to his creator Kronika, who is in disbelief, due to the fact the Void is inescapable. He and Frost were tasked to find Shang Tsung, Nightwolf and Fujin. They, along with the Cyber Lin Kuei, arrive at Wu Shi Academy, attempting to capture them.
After Nightwolf defeats Geras, he cuts off his arms. One of Geras’ arms reattaches itself. Shang Tsung then opens a portal to Chaosrealm as Fujin uses some wind to blow Geras into it. Geras’ still unattached arm grabs Nightwolf's leg, but he simply kicks it into the portal. Shang Tsung claims that Havik will keep Geras "entertained".
Geras, wearing new armor, confronts Sindel and the rejuvenated Shao Kahn in the Soul Chamber, and demands their services to Kronika. Feeling betrayed by Kronika due to Kitana gaining the Outworld throne, Shao Kahn refuses his services and instead decides to attack the construct with Sindel. Being defeated, Sindel knocks a weakened Geras away where Shao Kahn approaches and mercilessly beats a downed Geras over the head repeatedly with his Wrath Hammer, completely destroying his head with one final slam. Despite his Immortality and regeneration capabilities, Geras is not seen again after his defeat in the Soul Chamber, leaving his status and whereabouts completely unknown.
Mortal Kombat 1[]
Geras is reconstructed by Fire God Liu Kang at the dawn of his New Era, now acting as his right-hand man. With Liu Kang focusing on his role as defender of Earthrealm, Geras has assumed the mantle of Keeper of Time, watching over the hourglass to ensure Liu Kang's New Era is not undone.
That being said, a villainous version of Geras acts as a servant of Titan Shang Tsung.
Appearance[]
Geras is visually similarly to a well-built Black man with blue eyes, armored sleeves, a lack of a shirt, and armored pants.
Powers and Abilities[]
Having the ability to manipulate time and sand, similar to his mistress, Geras can rewind or stop time's normal flow, erase someone from time, repeat his previous action, and can teleport. For his sand abilities, he can use it to make blockades, making weapons out of it, and can transform into sand, avoiding harm. He can also manipulate the earth around him similar to Tremor, and has superhuman strength, enabling him to easily burst heads or rip someone in two. Geras also has some sort of immortality and can never truly die, reviving himself from any lethal energy. The time it takes for this depends on the severity of the wound, him taking longer to come back from a decapitation or being blown to pieces compared to being shot. He also possibly, with each death, becomes stronger and smarter. Said cycle lets him take on Raiden in a fight. However, the Thunder God still beats him despite Gera's confidence. Even before one of his deaths at the hands of Cassie, he was able to match the likes of Liu Kang and Kung Lao (depending on what character the player chooses) with ease.
Geras. like most Kombantants, is also skilled at martial arts. As mentioned above, he can give the likes of Raiden and Liu Kang trouble. Furthermore, like his master, he is highly knowledgable about what occurs in history, as he mentions important historical figures during several of his intros such as Joan the Arc.
Powers[]
- Unique Physiology: Geras is an artificial construct created by the Sands of Time. He has a variety of incredible abilities which makes him a very dangerous opponent to those around him. Geras' durability, alongside his healing factor makes him nearly impervious to attacks, as he was able to instantly heal from getting shot by a barrage of bullets, allowing him to simply shrug it off and continue fighting.
- Superhuman Strength: Geras' strength is incalculable. He has shown to easily crush anyone's head, punch right through them, rip their arms off, tear their skin off, and even punch someone so hard that they fly at a very large distance. Any time he is resurrected, his strength is increased.
- Superhuman Speed: Geras can run at very fast speeds mostly faster than the speed of sound. But when he moves through time, his speed becomes nearly unmatched.
- Superhuman Agility
- Superhuman Stamina: Geras can fight tirelessly without needing the time to breath or take a break.
- Self-Sustenance
- Superhuman Durability
- Superhuman Endurance: Geras can tolerate immense levels of physical pain and even the strongest of attacks.
- Superhuman Senses: Geras' senses are acute that he is able to notice anyone coming. Not even stealth will work easily.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Geras has been shot by guns and has proven them to be useless against him. With arms cut off, they can quickly reattach. Sustaining massive damage to his being takes longer for Geras' healing factor to restore him, as it took longer to recover from being decapitated by Kung Lao's hat. When regenerating - or even being revived - the Sands of Time themselves help rebuild Kronika's most faithful servant.
- Invulnerability: Geras is impossible to severely injure. He has shown to be invulnerable to even the strongest off attacks and not even a vehicle can easily be effective against him.
- Immortality: Geras has lived for a billion lifetimes.
- Magic: Geras possesses the ability to manipulate time and the Sands of Time. His control over time includes being able to stop its flow, teleport, rewind it and replay his previous actions. By stopping the flow of time, Geras can freely interact with his opponents who are oblivious to his next move and completely unaware of it. His ability to rewind time is useful against enemies who successfully dodge his attacks as he can simply rewind them back to the time when they have not yet moved before setting up another attack. He can also use it on himself as an escape method by rewinding himself from the moment of danger to safety. If necessary, he can erase others from existence instead of blasting them with energy that would normally freeze them in time. As Geras is a point fixed in time created by Kronika herself, this has granted him a degree of Immortality, being able to revert time moments before his demise. Additionally, Geras grows stronger and wiser with each of his deaths, empowering him to the point that his might was on par, if not outright exceeded, the power of both Gods and Elder Gods. The element of sand is one of the few things he can control. He can harden sand to make it durable enough to create walls, tables and weapons for crushing and slashing his enemies such as hammers and swords. He can even become intangible by turning into sand, making him impervious to physical attacks. He can also manipulate the Earth in a way similar to Tremor such as summoning rocks to strike his opponent's feet and create metallic gauntlets by using the Sands of Time. In addition to that, he also has supernatural strength allowing him to crush heads into pieces, tear others in half, shatter his own stone constructs and throw people away over a long distance with ease.

Abilities[]
- Master Martial Artist: Geras has shown to be quite a formidable opponent for even two or three warriors combined. He has been able to easily defeat a crowd of Shaolin Monks and Special Forces soldiers by using his immense levels of physical strength and durability. He also has been able to quickly overpower Shang Tsung, Fujin, and Nightwolf before he was defeated by him. He can also do the same thing to Liu kang and Kung Lao before his defeat. Overall, he relies mostly using his strength and durability combined with hand-to-hand combat in order to defeat and overpower the strongest of warriors.
- Wrestling
- Acrobatics: Geras can jump very great distances.
- Weapon Proficiency: With his weapons made of sand, he can use swords and large knuckle fists to fight.
- Swordsmanship
- Advanced Intelligence: Geras has lots of knowledge in many different things.
- Eidetic Memory
- Tactical Analysis
- Indomitable Will: For over millennia, he is a very headstrong servant of Kronika. He is willing to accomplish anything for her and with his thousands of resurrections, he is confident to accomplish it even if he was defeated.

Trivia[]
- Both he and his master's ability to control time is likely based on the "sands of time", a metaphor to how time slips by, most likely based on a hourglass's sand.
- Geras' name is likely based on the Greek god of old age by the same name.
- Also, the word "geras" in ancient Greek is a term referring to that the more geras a man has, the more likely he would be famous, successful, and courageous.
- If Skarlet is to be trusted, Geras can never stay dead, and he can rewind time to revive himself. That said, it is possible that he could still be killed if Kronika wipes him from existence.
- In the first Kombat Kast, Steve Brownback said that Geras is the mid-boss character of the game, similar to Goro, Kintaro, Moloch, etc.
- In earlier builds of the game, Geras had blue blood. This was later changed to the standard red for an unknown reason.
- When the roster section for the Mortal Kombat 11 website was first added, Geras was named "Terminas". Among this and the fact his file names are labeled with "Ter", it is likely he was originally named Terminas.
