Galvatron was the reconstructed version of Megatron, and the secondary antagonist of The Transformers: The Movie, and the main antagonist of Season 3 and 4 of the Generation One cartoon and an antagonist of the Transformers: The Headmasters.
History[]
The Movie[]
In 2005, after being mortally wounded by Optimus Prime, Megatron was left to float through space after being thrown out of the overloaded Astrotrain by Starscream, who took command. Drifting aimlessly, he was summoned by Unicron, who ordered him to destroy the Matrix. Megatron was offered a new body, a warship and new troops to command, so long as he destroyed the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Megatron eventually agreed and was reformatted into Galvatron. Unicron then reformatted Galvatron's troops into Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps.
Travelling first to Cybertron, Galvatron quickly retook command of the Decepticons after killing Starscream in the middle of his coronation. He then went to Earth and attacked Autobot City full-force. Ultra Magnus led him away from Earth, and Galvatron chased him to the Planet of Junk, where he defeated Magnus and took the Matrix, intending to use it against Unicron. Galvatron could not open the Matrix, and as punishment for his treachery, Unicron swallowed him whole. Inside Unicron, he met up with Hot Rod. Though he initially suggested an alliance with the young Autobot against the mutual threat of his master, the Chaos Bringer mentally tortured Galvatron for his attempted treachery and then forced him to attack Hot Rod. Hot Rod eventually managed to wrest the Matrix away from Galvatron and open it, transforming him into Rodimus Prime, who hurled Galvatron into deep space.
Season 3[]
In Five Faces of Darkness, Cyclonus, Scourge and the Decepticons, who were reclocated on Charr, sought out Galvatron. They found him sunk in a lava pit on the planet Thrull and managed to free him. However, the effects of the "plasma bath" rendered him omnicidally insane. Upon regaining his freedom, he thrashed Cyclonus and Scourge and blew up Thrull.
Galvatron led the Decepticons on many adventures against the Autobots throughout 2006, though his insanity would usually lead to each mission ending in failure. By the time of Webworld, his derangement became so severe, Cyclonus had to trick Galvatron into taking therapy sessions on Torkulon. After nearly murdering an attendant during a word-association session and somehow building a gun in arts and crafts, Galvatron was deemed incurable by conventional methods. The doctors attempted to use living extensions of the planet to give him a lobotomy, but Galvatron broke free and murdered the sentient organic core of Torkulon. After that, he razed the entire planet's civilization, leaving them so broken it would take centuries to rebuild.
In The Burden Hardest to Bear, Galvatron was pleased when Dead End and Wildrider gained the Matrix of Leadership from Rodimus Prime. Galvatron tried to load the Matrix into his particle cannon as a power source, but it summoned the ghosts of departed Autobot leaders. They scared Galvatron into getting rid of the Matrix, but Scourge claimed the Matrix for himself and managed to magnify his power. Scourge used his newfound might to overthrow Galvatron and Cyclonus, temporarily claiming control of the Decepticons. Galvatron and Cyclonus eventually recovered and came to Earth just after Scourge lost the Matrix back to Rodimus. After blasting him, Galvatron soon accepted Scourge back into the Decepticons.
However, despite his insanity, he teamed up with the resurrected Optimus to stop the Hate Plague in The Return of Optimus Prime. Galvatron wound up becoming infected by the plague and attempted to kill an unconscious Optimus with a axe. Optimus woke up and opened the Matrix directly in Galvatron's face. The wisdom of the Matrix not only cured the universe of the Hate Plague, it cured Galvatron's madness as well. Grateful, Galvatron lucidly declared a brief truce.
Season 4[]
In The Rebirth, Galvatron called off the truce and led an assault on Autobot City, searching for the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. Having converted Cybertron into a galactic dreadnought, Galvatron maneuvered it into Earth's orbit, planning to release the Plasma Energy Chamber's payload into Earth's sun. The resulting supernova would wipe both Earth and Cybertron off the face of the galaxy, presumably leaving Galvatron to gain mastery over everything left. Grudgingly teamed with the Transformer-Nebulan hybrid Lord Zarak, Galvatron was eventually defeated and sent tumbling through space, ushering Cybertron into a new Golden Age. After regaining control, Galvatron vowed to collect energy from disparate corners of the galaxy and return to Cybertron. Zarak made it clear he intended it to be a "we" leadership.
The Headmasters[]
In one timeline which diverged after Season 3 (and the events of Season 3 occured 5 years after The Movie) Galvatron battled both the Autobots and the Headmasters. Galvatron eventually decided to fuse his body with the Earth to form a Unicron-like being, but was defeated and buried under ice by the Headmasters.
Galvatron was a time travelling version of the reborn Megatron, and a recurring antagonist of Marvel UK's Transformers comic strip.

Events or details from the UK only stories are in italics. Originally, the UK comics depicted the events of the Movie as the definitive future of the comics storyline, however the events of Time Wars would rewrite the timeline.
Creation[]
In The Planet Eater, Megatron, critically wounded after his last battle with Optimus Prime, was cast out of Astrotrain on the journey back to Cybertron in 2006. He was found by Unicron and recreated as Galvatron. In Judgement Day, Galvatron destroyed Starscream and reclaimed leadership, Galvatron watched as Unicron consumed one of Cybertron's moons, and announced that they belonged to him. Unicron responded by psychically torturing Galvatron. Galvatron was then ordered to Earth.
Target 2006[]
In Target 2006, however Galvatron instead time jumped back twenty years to free himself from Unicron's control. Galvatron intended to create a device that would be powerful enough to destroy Unicron in 2006. Galvatron brought Cyclonus and Scourge with him, and as an effect of time-travel, displaced the Autobots Prowl, Ratchet, and Optimus. Seeking to ally with his past self, Galvatron travelled to the Decepticon base, and explained himself to Megatron, without mentioning he was his future self. Megatron did not believe him, but failed to best him. Galvatron deposed his past self as Decepticon leader and put the Constructicons to work building a massive laser cannon which he would then hide on Earth and unleash on Unicron when the time was right. However, after hearing that the 1986-era Ultra Magnus would be arriving, Galvatron had to alter his plan.
Capturing the spying Jazz, Galvatron lured the Autobots into a battle which he used to prove his superiority. The Autobots and Megatron briefly formed an alliance to stop the three future Decepticons, and Hot Rod, Blurr and Kup came from the future to help. Present-day Ultra Magnus kept Galvatron occupied as the future Autobots set-up a trap. Galvatron duelled and defeated Ultra Magnus, returning to his laser cannon only for it to be destroyed in a huge explosion. Galvatron emerged from the wreckage to see what he thought was Starscream (but was an unconscious Skywarp in disguise), and in a fit of anger, blew him up. After a second he realized that if he destroyed Starscream in the past, then he couldn't destroy him in the future. Figuring that he was in an alternate past, and he could not affect his future, Galvatron and his troops returned to their proper time.
The Movie[]
Now in the 21st century, as seen in Judgement Day, Galvatron and his minions attacked Ultra Magnus's Autobots as they attempted to make their way off-planet. They were waylaid when the Autobot commander triggered a domino effect within an asteroid field to jam the Decepticons' sensors, a trick Galvatron remembered being used against him when he was Megatron. Galvatron caught up to his prey, and began blasting the Autobots' ships. Ultra Magnus tricked Galvatron into believing he had succeeded in destroying his vessel.
In The Final Battle, Galvatron learned that the Autobots had survived, and followed them to Junkion, where he managed to retrieve the Matrix. Galvatron then tried to use it's power against Unicron, but found he was unable to open the talisman. Unicron consumed Galvatron for his treachery, and, within the chaos-bringer's body, Galvatron confronted Hot Rod. During their fight, Hot Rod reclaimed the Matrix and was transformed into Rodimus Prime, then used his new strength to hurl Galvatron through Unicron's hide and into the void of space.
Marvel's the Transformers (UK)[]
However, as revealed in Fallen Angel, Galvatron still had the time jump device, and used it to travel back to 1987, permanently. He materialized above Earth and crashed into the planet's surface like a meteor, catching the attention of a group of Autobots who had just arrived on Earth. His mind unhinged by the terminal velocity impact, the maddened Galvatron, easily bested the Cybertron Seven, believing himself to battling Rodimus Prime. A group of nearby Decepticons led by Shockwave were drawn to the battle, and Shockwave concluded based on past reports that Galvatron posed a threat to his leadership, ordering his troops to aid the Autobots. This calmed Galvatron, who retreated on the basis that he could not destroy the Decepticons, as then he would have no army to command in the future.
Mount Verona[]
In Burning Sky, Galvatron had constructed a Power siphon that would enable him to absorb the energy of the Mount Verona volcano, making him as powerful as a god. As the siphon began its work, Ultra Magnus crossed paths with Galvatron once more. Though Magnus managed to momentarily beat down Galvatron, he defeated Magnus once again. Galvatron dragged him to his power siphon, and gloated about his scheme.
In Hunters, Galvatron prepared to throw Ultra Magnus into the volcano, when he was attacked by Rodimus Prime, Kup, and Blurr, who had travelled back from Galvatron's era to disrupt his plans. Galvatron knocked out Kup and Blurr, but as he readied to square off against Rodimus, Death's Head, who had also travelled from the future, joined the fray. Rodimus and the bounty hunter bickered over who would be taking down Galvatron, a debate the latter had no patience for. After forcing Death's Head to retreat, Galvatron and Rodimus duelled, and Ultra Magnus helped damage Galvatron's power siphon, allowing the Autobots to escape.
After Galvatron finished repairs, in Fire on High, Goldbug and Wreck Gar, along with Kup and Blurr, attacked him. Easily thwarting the 21st century Autobots, Galvatron was distracted by Ultra Magnus, while Wreck-Gar and Rodimus snatched up the time jump device and began modifying it to send them all back to the future. After throwing Magnus into the volcano, Galvatron realised the Autobots plan and fought Rodimus. He was electrocuted when Rodimus blasted a nearby power cable. However Galvatron recovered, and savagely beat his old enemy. Death's Head, wishing to be paid by Rodimus, fought Galvatron, unwittingly giving the Autobots the time they needed. The device was triggered, and all the 21st century Transformers were returned to the future, aside from Galvatron, having modified it to stay behind.
In Vicious Circle, Goldbug was left to face Galvatron, as Ultra Magnus, having escaped the Volcano, believed he could not defeat him. Goldbug was quickly overpowered but before Galvatron could deliver the killing blow, the reenergised Ultra Magnus arrived. During the course of the battle, the maddened Galvatron ripped a piece of the siphon’s control equipment loose. This resulted in the siphon losing control of the volcano’s eruption. Galvatron, too crazed to notice the danger, was entombed along with Ultra Magnus within the crater.

Despite this, however, the events of Time Wars both rewrote "the Movie" timeline, (see below), and made the future where any version of Megatron becomes Galvatron an alternate history, given that events proceed very differently from here.
Aspects of Evil[]
Despite Galvatron's death in the Time Wars, due to the timelines being "reset", another version of Galvatron was present in the 21st century, who had not travelled back in time, and conquered Cybertron. This "reset" Galvatron tried to enrage Rodimus, even throwing Blurr's severed head at him, so that the Autobot leader's vengeful thoughts would corrupt the Matrix. This Galvatron was last seen in a flashback to Unicron's third coming in 2010, having been among those killed by Unicron, as he had no need for minions.

- Galvatron's design is based on the early colour scheme from the Movie, as used by the toy.
- Given that Galvatron can remember things from "Megatron"'s perspective in Time Wars, it is possible he was created from the Megatron clone rather than the original.

Armada[]
In Worlds Collide, Galvatron and his four fellow heralds travelled into a new reality to prepare the way for Unicron. While the others defeated the Decepticon forces on Cybertron and took control of the space bridge Nexus, Galvatron was headed to Earth to track down Over-Run, a Mini-Con refugee from a Cybertron that Unicron had consumed, as Over-Run carried the Mini-Con Matrix, which contained the essence of the Mini-Cons from his reality, so was a possible threat. When Galvatron arrived in San Francisco, he was distracted by several Transformers, including Starscream, Hot Shot, and Thrust, but easily defeated them. However, they managed to distract him long enough for Over-Run to escape.
When the Megatron of this reality launched his attack on the Autobots on Earth, Galvatron arrived to destroy him, declaring that he had killed "many" Megatrons in other realities. Despite his putting up a struggle, Megatron was pummeled within an inch of his life, but before Galvatron could finish him off, the Air Defense Mini-Con Team intervened, forming the Star Saber. This allowed Megatron to overwhelm and eventually destroy Galvatron, hacking his corpse to pieces.
