Follow me. Come on. This way.
~ Freddy's ghost kid to Max as he lures her into the Parts and Service room moments before killing her.

Freddy Fazbear is a major antagonist of the 2023 supernatural horror film Five Nights at Freddy's, the film adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name.

He is an animatronic brown teddy bear who is the lead vocalist and titular mascot of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place. One of the pizzeria's four main attractions, it is revealed that he and his friends come to life by the spirits of ghost children at nighttime and kill anybody that comes after hours, including night guards that may be working.

He was portrayed by Kevin Foster as an animatronic. As a ghost child, he was portrayed by Liam Hendrix.

Appearance[]

Just like his video game incarnation, Freddy Fazbear is a large, anthropomorphic, quite muscular animatronic brown teddy bear with a black bow tie and a top hat, though there are minor differences. His muzzle, stomach and paw pads on his hands and feet are orange while his inner ears are a brown. His top hat and bow tie are now made from fabric instead of moulded plastic, much like Bonnie's bow tie. Freddy's eyes now are a more vibrant blue color than the original baby blue. When acting in a hostile manner, his eyes glow orange while under the influence of William Afton. However, his eyes glow red when he and the other animatronics are disposing of William. In his right hand, he carries a microphone.

As a ghost child, he has white skin with straight dark brown hair and brown eyes. He also wears a white short-sleeved shirt with yellow and orangish-red horizontal stripes, along with navy blue jeans, beige shoes and a white top hat with a black horizontal stripe.

Personality[]

Like his video game counterpart, Freddy is an animatronic who kills any security guard working the night shift. However, this isn't solely limited to people who are given the job to watch over the pizzeria, as he had no qualms with killing Max by luring her towards him and biting her in half. He is also said to be the most intimidating of the other animatronics as Mike was shown backing away upon realizing Freddy's size as he approached him with hostility when he stopped Mike and the other animatronics from hurting Abby, showing that he and his bandmates are being overprotective of her.

However, Freddy isn't a bad person and is instead a very tragic individual. In the past, he was once an innocent child who had his life cut short by William Afton, who abducted him, killed him and stuffed his corpse inside the pizzeria's titular mascot alongside his friends. It's also mentioned by Vanessa that he and his bandmates don't want to hurt anyone, as they are influenced by Afton into committing all of their murders for him.

Despite this, Freddy is shown to be kind and playful towards children as he still has the mind of a child like the other animatronics. This is demonstrated through his relationship with Abby. Despite being manipulated by Afton into attempting to stuff her into an animatronic suit and kill her brother, Mike, he does genuinely care about Abby, coming to her defense when Mike approaches them and passively backs down when Abby tells him that he is her brother. Furthermore, Freddy happily hugs the girl before she leaves with Mike to go back into the office for the night as he and the others watch. He is even shown extending his hand out towards Abby during her second visit to the pizzeria and participated in building a fort with her and the others. While playing with Abby, he and Bonnie performed "Wild One" by Iggy Pop to entertain her as she dances with Foxy and Chica. After Abby later frees him and the other animatronics from Afton's control, he is shown letting out a roaring screech as he and his bandmates finally achieve their long-awaited vengeance on their killer.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Enhanced Strength: Freddy is shown to be pretty strong, capable of biting Max in half with his jaws after his ghost kid lifted her into his mouth.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Freddy is incredibly durable, shown to have almost no weaknesses. When he's electrocuted by Mike, he briefly shuts down, before he reactivates himself, seeming absolutely fine.
  • Enhanced Hearing: Freddy has incredible hearing abilities, shown when he turned around after hearing Mike sneaking across the pizzeria.

Biography[]

Background[]

The Freddy Fazbear animatronic was created under William Afton, an associate of Fazbear Entertainment, being the lead vocalist and titular mascot of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place in order to entertain kids. However, Afton abducted a child with a white top hat, murdering him along with other four children. The child's soul returns to the living world and possesses Freddy, residing in him.

After Freddy Fazbear's pizza place was closed down, William, under the alias of Steve Raglan, for who knows how long, went under the job as a career counselor, tricked people into getting a job at the abandoned pizza place, just so they could get killed by Freddy and his bandmates. And by proxy, in his Spring Bonnie disguise, tricked his victims into killing the night guards or anyone who came into the building, such as himself, and his daughter Vanessa Shelly.

Five Nights at Freddy's[]

During Mike's first shift at Freddy's, as he explored the place, Freddy was discovered by Mike whilst checking the animatronics behind the curtain on the show stage. After several minutes later when Mike fell asleep, Freddy's spirit appeared in his dream along with the other ghost children. When he was asked by Mike to as what happened to his younger brother, he and along with the other ghost children ran away from Mike. Mike encountered Freddy's spirit again during his second shift during his second dream sequence, when Mike asked furiously where Garrett was, he and the other ghost children ran away from Mike again. Later, Vanessa Shelly showed Mike, Freddy and the other animatronics because she wanted him to properly meet them.

Following this, Mike headed home, but while he pulls out of the parking lot of the establishment, Max, Jeff, Hank and Carl invaded the Pizzeria to wreck the place under Aunt Jane's orders to have Mike fired by making the place look bad to look like he was incompetent at his job. Unfortunately for them, Bonnie activates and hears that there are intruders. Alerting the others, one by one, the thieves are apprehended with Carl getting his face mauled by Chica's cupcake, Bonnie beating Hank to death in the supply closet, and Jeff getting brutally slashed by Foxy. As for Max, who was waiting for her brother and the other two, decided to go ion to check up on their progress. However, it was at this moment that she sees Freddy's spirit, the ghost child possessing Freddy, who asks her to follow him into a back room, but upon arriving in said room, the only thing there is Freddy. Freddy's voice tells her to come closer, and Max, thinking that he's inside Freddy, grabs a nearby chair to use as a footstool, and proceeded to look in Freddy's mouth, only to be grabbed by Freddy's spirit's hand, pulling her into the mouth of Freddy and the mouth itself snapping shut, causing her to be bitten in half.

With no babysitter, Mike had no choice but to take Abby with him and wanted her on her best behavior while he's working. As Abby had built a pillow fort in the office, Mike got to work cleaning up the mess caused by the thieves, as Vanessa had arrived to the Schmidt residence to confront Mike about it, all the while the other animatronics were watching him without him knowing. With the task complete, Mike proceeds to sleep to enter the dream world to get some answers from the ghost children about the one who took his brother, Garrett, but instead of all the children, he finds the spirit of Golden Freddy drawing in the dirt with a stick. He proceeded to get down on one knee to negotiate with the spirit, but the spirit states that if he tells him who took Garrett, then he'll need something from Mike in return, to which Mike responds that he'll give him anything. While this is happening, one of the ghost children call Abby from the inside of her fort. Curious, she gets out of it and tries to wake Mike up, but to no avail, but promises him that she'll be right back as she puts on her shoes and enters the main pizzeria area where Freddy's eyes glow from the darkness in the parted curtains.

Back in Mike's dream, he suddenly hears Abby screaming, causing him to turn away from the ghost child, but when he turns back, he sees that the child is gone, yet on the dirt, Mike sees what the boy has drawn: a rabbit man. Waking up in the real world and hearing Abby screaming, he rushes to save her and sees her being "attacked" by the animatronics, who have all come off stage. As Mike approaches the scene to rescue her, Freddy goes straight to Mike with glowing eyes, causing the latter to quickly arm himself with a nearby chair with the legs pointed at the former, but Abby stopped him, explaining to him that Mike is her brother. Abby then explained to Mike that they're friendly and introduces him to them, saying that they just want to play with Chica giving her a wink. Mike, clearly shaken up by this, proceeds to tell her that its time for them to leave, but not before Abby gives Bonnie picture of a heart, saying that they love drawings, and she thanks them for playing with her. As Freddy gives her a hug goodbye and Foxy giving a happy look, the two head back into the office.

The following night, Mike and Abby arrived only to see a police car, indicating that Vanessa is here. While Abby cheerfully greets her friends with the animatronics genuinely happy that their new friend is back, Mike figured out that Vanessa knew all about this place and proceeded to tell her what Abby told him: the animatronics are possessed by ghost children. But before this conversation could get anywhere, Abby calls them over and tells them that she and the other animatronics have made plans to make a fort, no doubt after they saw Abby's pillow fort in the office. Freddy and the others then participated in the construction of it using the tables and the chairs of the pizzeria and after it was finished, everyone relaxed inside of it.

On the fifth and final night, after Mike had left Aunt Jane in charge of watching over Abby, who was clearly upset by this, he proceeded to buy more medication to help him enter the dream world to get some answers, but when he does this, the dream is different, as his whole family is back, complete with Garrett. In panicked denial, Mike tries to tell himself that this isn't what happened, only for the Ghost Children to appear behind him, with the spirit inside Golden Freddy telling him that this feeling of bliss of being reunited with his family could be his dream for the rest of his life, but in exchange, they want Abby. Letting his emotions get the better of him, Mike agrees, but only a few seconds later does he realize that he had made a horrible decision and tries to take it back, only for him to be attacked by the spirits and back in the real world, he wakes up in the Torture Freddy chair and is about to meet the same fate as the previous night guard, but he was able to continue where that night guard failed with the bolts keeping his hands stuck to it, and he was able to escape. As he backed up into more animatronic parts and costumes, he makes a horrifying discovery upon seeing the bodies of Max, Carl, Hank, and Jeff, all brutally mutilated. Realizing that he has to get out, he tries to make an escape, but finds Foxy right behind him to rush him down, but thankfully, the door Mike was struggling to open finally does, allowing him to take his leave.

Meanwhile, Abby arrived at the Pizzeria upon the spirit of Golden Freddy dispatching of Aunt Jane and helping her hitch a ride in a taxi. Entering, she sees Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy sing a song just for her and while this is going on, Chica ushers for Abby to follow her backstage while Bonnie and Freddy continue performing. Back with Mike, after getting bandaged up by Vanessa, who is not in her police uniform, who finally tells Mike the truth about everything: she is the daughter of the one in the yellow rabbit costume that the spirits of the children are after: William Afton, and those souls genuinely do not want to hurt anybody, but it is through William who has control over them and can influence them to do whatever he wants, that the spirits have murdered countless victims against their will. Enraged that she knew all of this, including having Garrett's orange airplane he used to play with as William had given it to her as a toy that symbolized his first kill, Mike asks her how can he save Abby since, through Vanessa, he now knows that the animatronics want to make Abby one of them. Giving Mike a stun baton, he barreled down the highway in Vanessa's police car and returned to the Pizzeria to rescue Abby. Inside, he sneaks through the vent to avoid being caught by the animatronics. As Bonnie tries to signal to Freddy that Mike is there, Freddy only turns in Mike's direction upon hearing Mike's back hit the side of the stage as he ducked in front of it to avoid being seen. Upon seeing nothing, he resumes singing, and Mike, realizing he can take out both of them in one attack, he pours a nearby bucket of water, the same bucket he used to mop the floor with on the 3rd night, on the stage floor and sends a surge of electricity into it, causing the puddle to electrocute both Bonnie and Freddy.

After Mike had electrocuted Mr. Cupcake and Vanessa appearing to shock Foxy and rescue Abby, William Afton appears from the shadows in his Spring Bonnie costume to kill them himself and calls upon the animatronics under the pretense that Mike is "something new to play with", causing Freddy, Bonnie, and Mr. Cupcake to reactivate and stand back up as nothing ever happened. As Vanessa confronts her father, Mike, struggling to get up and articulate following the beating given to him by Afton, he remembers what Vanessa, Abby and Abby's teacher had told him: the power that William has over them, the animatronics love drawings, and drawings themselves can hold a lot of power in themselves, such as memories. Realizing this, he tells Abby the new plan: William had hurt Abby's friends, and she needs to show the animatronics the truth about what really happened. As Willaim tries to stop Abby, Vanessa grabs him by the arm and orders for her to let go, but Vanessa doesn't oblige, forcing Afton to plunge his unsheathed knife into Vanessa's stomach, causing her to collapse. Temporarily taken aback by what he had just done, this look of shock turns to horror as he sees that Abby had made a picture of the yellow rabbit brutally stabbing and killing a group of innocent children with a bloody knife.

It was at this moment that when the animatronics also see the picture drawing by Abby, all their memories come flooding back from that fateful day when their lives were taken away. Furious that the person that they believed was their friend, but was, in reality, the one that murdered them and the object of their revenge, they all turned against him and proceeded to surround him with angry faces while Afton tries to talk down to them. This causes Mr. Cupcake to leap off Chica's plate and bite off a piece of his suit causing the springlocks to be fail, jutting out the endoskeleton through William's body. As Afton struggles and falls to his knees, he dons the Spring Bonnie mask and accepts the pain, stating his signature catch phrase "I always come back", knowing fully well that he will haunt the suit. As Afton still twitches in pain, the pizzeria around them gradually gets destroyed with the lights flickering and the walls falling over, referencing the emotions of the spirits in the animatronics feel in that moment. As Foxy uses his hook to drag Afton in the secluded back room, the other animatronics join him from behind, all of them possessing red eyes, and all the while this is happening, Mike and Abby help the unconscious Vanessa get up from the ground to take her to the emergency room. Struggling to escort Vanessa, Abby gets one last look at her animatronic friends and sees Freddy roaring, but this isn't a roar of victory as it represents the anguish, pain, and suffering that he and the other children feel - letting out a bellow that for years they wanted their revenge against the yellow rabbit and they finally got it, and it was against the one that they thought was their friend, with the red eyes representing bloodshot eyes caused by crying.

It is uncertain at this time as to what might have happened to Freddy along with the rest of the animatronics after Freddy Fazbear Pizza's Place internally collapsed.

Trivia[]

  • Freddy killing Max by biting her in two is similar to the Bite of '83, where the Crying Child was decapitated by a Fredbear animatronic. As a consequence, this scene has been jokingly referred to as the film's adaption of the Bite of '87, another event in the Five Night's At Freddy's franchise that is comically mistaken for the former.
  • At first, it was believed that Freddy was the leader of the animatronics in the film, but it was proven wrong when it turned out that Golden Freddy was actually revealed to be the leader.
  • In the original trailer as well as a few others follow, Freddy and the other animatronics' eyes would become red. This was met with mixed reaction from the community, some finding it funny and others hating it. Once the movie released, however, the red eyes had been completely scrubbed, with several scenes featuring the eyes not being in the theatrical release.
  • Unlike the other animatronics, Freddy's ghost kid, alongside Golden Freddy's ghost kid, are the only ones who can speak in the film.
