Freddy Fazbear (with his human name being Gabriel) is the titular main antagonist of the 2014 indie video game Five Nights at Freddy's and the secondary antagonist of its sequel Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
He is an animatronic bear and the mascot of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Seemingly a nice and innocent animatronic entertainer for children, he is actually possessed by the soul of a child named Gabriel and actively tries to kill the security guards of at least two Freddy Fazbear's Pizza locations, which he mistakes for his murderer.
In Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery, he is voiced by Tim Simmons, who also voiced Nightmare Freddy. In the scrapped Showtime performance for Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted, he is voiced by Kellen Goff, who also provided the voices for Funtime Freddy and the Daycare Attendant.
Personality[]
As the mascot of the restaurant, the day Freddy appears as a nice, joyful, and lovely mascot who takes care 's child and always trying to cheer them up, as expected from an animatronic. However, once he is alone in the dark, he turns into a cunning, dangerous and malevolent robot, willing at all cost to catch and stuff the security guard into an endoskeleton suit. The reason for this behavior is that the animatronic is, in fact, possessed by the vengeful spirit of a child named Gabriel who was murdered at Freddy’s.
Freddy is the original leading antagonist of the first game, and acts as such, sitting at the side and allowing the other animatronics to do all the work in the earlier nights, and when they fail, he finally comes into action himself. In FNaF 1, he is very intelligent and strategic, and also presumably the leader of the gang. If the power runs out, he always is the first to enter the office, even if he is the animatronic furthest from said office, meaning the other animatronics may be allowing him the privilege (as leader) of getting the night guard. However, even if Freddy's AI is set to level 20 on Custom Night, he won't move until Bonnie and Chica have left the Show Stage.
When on the move, Freddy lets out a very deep belly laugh that echoes throughout the building. Like the other animatronics, Freddy appears to be a sadist, toying with the night guard in order to break him mentally, and laughing at his misery, although he is still not completely evil for many reasons. That, and he plays his music before killing the guard if the place runs out of power, leaving the guard in complete and utter fear, not knowing when he will be killed. Freddy may be a mutilator as well because once the protagonist is killed, his eyes and teeth are shown through the openings of the suit, with the former's eyes popped through the suit's eye sockets and teeth showing within the mouth of the suit. In the second game, Freddy appears in the Game Over screen and the point of view is from inside the suit.
Despite being a violent and sadistic animatronic, Freddy attacks only because he wants to avenge himself and his friends by killing their murderer. However, he doesn't know how his killer looks like, all he knows is that he was a night guard (heavily implied by the SAVE THEM minigame), explaining why he's so hostile to them. He also seems to be protective of other children not wanting them to die like he did he even teamed up with the Puppet in the SAVETHEM mini game to rescue Afton’s victims although unfortunately he was too late.
Freddy is often quite charismatic and jolly despite them being a murdered child. He often likes to "play" with his opponents before he kills them and sometimes he even encourages them to try and beat him. He likes to be a supporter and tells others that "You tried your best that's all that counts" while saying it with a very happy and positive attitude. Freddy is very shy and he often only likes to show up in the dark and seems to be a fan of opera music shockingly enough and he prefers to be stealthy most up of time, this could possibly be due to how shy he is most of the time. Freddy is even willing to give people a second chance at things and likes scaring people as well. Freddy is a very good leader and often leads his "team" into doing things and they are always out seeking revenge on their killer but Freddy is usually going to be the one in group who is cheerful and charismatic. In others words if Mr. Fazbear's around you can expect to have a BEARy good time or bad time depending on weather or not Freddy is trying to kill you.
History[]
Note: Given that the Five Nights at Freddy's story is told out of chronological order, the history of Freddy is presented in the order the events occur to him.
Backstory[]
Freddy Fazbear was designed to be the main animatronic mascot of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. and was the successor to Fredbear. A boy called Gabriel was lured by William Afton in the Spring Bonnie costume to the Safe Room, and was murdered, then was stuffed into the Freddy suit. Afterwards, the Puppet allowed Gabriel to possess Freddy. Due to the smell from the bodies, the animatronics, including Freddy, were put in storage, but kept for spare parts.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2[]
The company tried to repair Freddy and the others, fitting them with facial recognition software, but they were deemed ugly, so were left for spare parts in the Parts/Service room. Withered Freddy was presumably among the animatronics who attacked William when he infiltrated the Pizzeria as a security guard, and he was moved to the Dayshift, where he committed a massacre. In the minigame SAVETHEM, Freddy and the Puppet raced around the building trying and failing to save the children.
From Night 2, Withered Freddy becomes active, but only picks up on Night 3. He heads to the Main Hall, then Party Room 3, on the way to the Office to kill the next night guard, Jeremy Fitzgerald. When Withered Freddy is in the hallway, and when Jeremy lowers the Monitor, Freddy stands in front of the desk as the lights flicker before he vanishes. Jeremy fends him off by putting on the Freddy Head the moment he sees Freddy inside The Office, fooling the facial recognition. As well as this, Jeremy could use the Flashlight while Freddy was in the hall. After Fritz Smith's shift on Night 7, where the animatronic's AI levels are altered, Freddy, along with the other original animatronics, is kept, and repaired for the next Pizzeria.
As well as this, the pre-night cutscenes, occurring before FNaF 1, are seen from Freddy's perspective, where he's standing on the Show Stage alongside Bonnie and Chica, and presumably is in his FNaF 1 design.
Five Nights at Freddy's 1[]
Freddy, along with Bonnie and Chica, was seen performing on stage at the new Pizzeria. Freddy's jingle could be heard on Phone Guy's Night 4 phone call, implying he was part of the attack on Phone Guy that killed him. During the first two nights of Mike Schmidt's shift, Freddy remained on the Show Stage while the others headed towards the office, perhaps as a way of studying his tactics. He would only attack if the player ran out of power. However, from Night 3, Freddy began his attack, hding himself in the darker areas of the rooms. He headed through the Dining Rooms, and the Restrooms, before entering the Kitchen, where his jingle would play. Freddy could only enter the Office through the East Hall, except when the power has been drained, in which he will only enter the Office via the West Hall. Mike had to montor the cameras, and close the right door.
Five Nights at Freddy's 3[]
Freddy only appears in the minigames, set at some point after the Pizzeria has closed. On Night 1, he is lured from the Stage to the Safe Room by Shadow Freddy, and is then dismantled by William. However, on Night 5 the soul inhabiting him blocks the exit with the others to prevent William from escaping. With William's death in the Spring Bonnie suit, he faded away with the others. A child with Freddy's mask is seen getting freed in Happiest Day. In the fire at the end of the game, the body is destroyed, freeing Gabriel and destroying Freddy Fazbear forever.
Ultimate Custom Night[]
Freddy returns in the Ultimate Custom Night. In this game, Freddy will approach from the left side hallways. The Player needs to keep track of him and close the door when appropriate to ensure Freddy can't get inside and kill the player. He also moves faster the higher the temperature of the office is.
Help Wanted[]
Freddy Fazbear appears as the titular character in the VR game The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience.
WARNING: As Freddy is "dead" (The robot is destroyed and the soul is free) during the events of Help Wanted, this is NOT the real Freddy. Like the game implies, FNaF VR is a game made by Fazbear Ent. in the timeline, so this is not the real Freddy Fazbear. Same with AR.
Freddy returns in 2 different game modes in the game. His first appearance is in the Five Nights at Freddy's game mode. In this mode, he behaves just like he did in FNaF 1, where he will approach through the right hallway and will jumpscare the player should he make it to their office. To prevent this, the player must close the right door when he is close. Alternatively, if the player keeps checking on him on the camera, he can be stalled and practically won't move unless the camera feed changes for too long. On Night 5 he turn into his 'Neon" form which is essentially the hard mode version of him.
Freddy's second appearance is in his Parts and Service game mode. In this game mode, the player must remove apparel from Freddy's mouth and chest cavity. Once that is finished, the player must remove Freddy's internal music box. In a scripted event, the player drops Freddy's music box and Freddy becomes upset with his eyes glowing, in addition to the Virtual Reality narrator remarking that dropping Freddy's music box was a dire mistake. The player must then replace his music box with a repaired one with haste. Once that is accomplished, the player is finished and the game ends.
In FNaF 2 on night 6 the DLC nights is the only time the withered's appear(besides Withered Foxy) and along with them is Withered Freddy. Withered Freddy functions the same way he did in the second game and the difficulty can be selected from easy to hard.
FNaF AR: Special Delivery[]
Freddy is one of the most common characters to encounter in Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery. To avoid being jumpscared, the player must locate him through static, look away while he haywires, and shock him when he charges and materializes.
Speculations about Freddy's true identity[]
Since the reveal of the final image of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Simulator, it has been heavily speculated, but not confirmed, that the name of the child possessing Freddy Fazbear is Gabriel. Since the reveal of the final screen of the Lore-keeper ending in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Simulator, that the child (based on the position of Freddy's head in the Good Ending of FNaF 3) possessing is heavily hinted to be Gabriel further supports this. In the Fourth Closet novel, the child that possessed Freddy was an unnamed boy.
In Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted during the end of the Pizza Party level, Glitchtrap lures the player to the backstage with a cake. After that, the player becomes Freddy and watches Glitchtrap as he dances to the song. It theorized that this was the moment the child was killed and stuffed inside Freddy. Since the cake has seven candles it, is theorized that the child was seven years old.

Trivia[]
- Freddy has been based various sources:
- He is most likely based on the Chuck E. Cheese animatronic mascot from the arcade/restaurant of the same name.
- He could have been based on a creepypasta which tells about a Chuck E. Cheese employee who got nearly eaten by the mouse animatronic in his house. He managed to escape, and along with the police found at the backstage of the restaurant the bodies of four of the five teenagers who went missing prior to the story. However, the manager and Chuck E. Cheese were nowhere to be found.
- Though later it later confirmed that he was inspired by Chipper.
- He is most likely based on the Chuck E. Cheese animatronic mascot from the arcade/restaurant of the same name.
- It could be possible that he could appear as the main/secondary antagonist of the upcoming film adaption of the first game by Blumhouse Productions.
- In the series, Freddy Fazbear has become less and less important as the new games are released. In the first game, he was the main antagonist, but with the present games, he is a supporting and/or posthumous one. Despite this, he remains as the overall mascot of the franchise.
- Freddy's scream in the original game originates from the 1981 horror film Inseminoid.
- Freddy and the Puppet are currently the only animatronics that are shown to have unquestionably good intentions, as both of them tried to save William's second set of victims in the SAVE THEM minigame, which shows they want to stop more murders from happening.
