“ | Yar-har-har-har-har! Never underestimate the cunning of a pirate. Or a fox, for that matter! | „ |
~ Foxy's death quote from Ultimate Custom Night. |
Foxy the Pirate is the quaternary antagonist of the 2014 indie video game Five Nights at Freddy's.
He is an out-of-order, worn down animatronic who is possessed by the undead soul of a child named Fritz. Like his fellow missing friends, he hunts for night guards in hopes of killing William Afton, the man who prematurely ended their lives. The in-universe Foxy the Pirate character is implied to be the main antagonist of the Freddy Fazbear brand, as seen through promotional material.
In Ultimate Custom Night, Foxy is voiced by Christopher McCullough.
Personality[]
Foxy appears to act reserved and shy, often hiding behind his curtain in Pirate Cove and singing to pass the time. However, he is also very sneaky. He always waits for the opportune moment to strike at his victims, like when he waits at his cove until the night guard isn’t looking and then rushes to his office at full speed to kill them. He also uses pirate slang and puns, such as “walk the the plank” or “dead men tell no tales” to stay accurate to his role as a pirate.
Foxy is soon shown to be the most sadistic and barbaric animatronic of the original four, taking delight in torturing and terrifying his victims. He often threatens to gouge their eyes out with his hook and laughs at them mockingly to torment them. He is also quite arrogant and overconfident, even stating that he is too fast for his victims and claims they would never stand a chance against him. He even once states no one should underestimate his cunning as both a pirate and a fox.
Foxy is also VERY shy as simple looking at him keeps him at bay. It's unknown why foxy is so shy but he doesn't like sharing his room with anybody that's for sure. Foxy is also a quick thinker as he stated that he couldn't run like he used too so instead he takes himself apart and slides those pieces into the guards office.
Biography[]
Note: Given that the Five Nights at Freddy's story is told out of chronological order, the history of Foxy it presented in the order the events occur to him.
Backstory[]
Foxy was one of the animatronics designed for Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, functioning as a mascot and a entertainer. He had his own area, Pirate Cove. A boy called Fritz was lured by William Afton in the Spring Bonnie costume to the Safe Room, and was murdered, then was stuffed into the Foxy suit. Afterwards, the Puppet allowed Fritz to possess Foxy. Due to the smell from the bodies, the animatronics, including Foxy, were put in storage, but kept for spare parts.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2[]
The company tried to repair Foxy and the others, fitting them with facial recognition software, but they were deemed ugly, so were left for spare parts in the Parts/Service room. Withered Foxy was presumably among the animatronics who attacked William when he infiltrated the Pizzeria as a security guard. In the minigame SAVETHEM, Foxy could be seen in the building.
From Night 2, Withered Foxy became active. Withered Foxy leaves the Parts/Service room, heading to the Office to kill the next night guard, Jeremy Fitzgerald. Foxy, unlike the others, was not fooled by the Freddy Head, so Jeremy had to fend him off with only his Flashlight. After Fritz Smith's shift, where the animatronic's AI levels are altered, Foxy, along with the other original animatronics, is kept, and repaired for the next Pizzeria.
Five Nights at Freddy's 1[]
Despite being somewhat repaired, Foxy was deemed out of order. Foxy could be heard banging on the door on Phone Guy's Night 4 phone call, implying he was part of the attack on Phone Guy that killed him. During Mike Schmidt's shift, Foxy starts off in the disused Pirate's Cove. If Mike does not pay Foxy enough attention, he begins peeking out of the curtain, then, after leaving Pirate's Cove, runs to the Office. If the Office Door is closed in time, Foxy bangs on it for some time, before heading back to Pirate's Cove.
Five Nights at Freddy's 3[]
Foxy only appears in the minigames, set at some point after the Pizzeria has closed. On Night 4, he is lured from Pirate Cove to the Safe Room by Shadow Freddy, and is then dismantled by William. However, on Night 5 the soul inhabiting him blocks the exit with the others to prevent William from escaping. With William's death in the Spring Bonnie suit, he faded away with the others. The remains of Foxy can be seen in Fazbear's Fright, with his head being used as a light in CAM 04, and the rest of remnants seen in the prop box in the Office. A child with Foxy's mask is seen getting freed in Happiest Day. The remains of Foxy get burned down in the fire, freeing Fritz and destroying Foxy once and for all.
Ultimate Custom Night[]
Foxy appears as a customizable antagonist in Ultimate Custom Night in his FNaF 1 form.
“ | He inhabits Pirate's Cove along with Bonnie, and while you shouldn't view Pirate's Cove when Bonnie is active, it's a necessity when Foxy is. Foxy will gradually make his exit if you don't check on him regularly, and once he's out, there's no way to make him go back. He also has a new trick up his sleeve to get into your office: he gets in piece by piece. He will find any vulnerability in your office and slip in chunks of himself (arms, legs, head, torso) through any open vent or open door, until all of his fragments are inside. Once there, he will wait for you to pull up your monitor before putting himself back together and jumpscaring you. | „ |
~ Foxy's description |
Foxy shares Pirate's Cove (CAM 05) with Bonnie, and a figurine on top of the desk will show who is currently active in Pirate's Cove. Every two seconds while the Monitor is raised, the figurine has a 33% chance to change to the other character.
Foxy stays in Pirate's Cove on CAM 05. and the player must check on him regularly to slow down his progress. Every frame, Foxy gains progress, where is how many stages he has progressed since last viewed on the cameras, capping at 3. Once his progress reaches , he has a 66% chance to progress to the next stage, leaving Pirate's Cove and throwing a part of himself (legs, right arm, torso, left arm, and then his head) into the Office, and his progress will reset to 0. If he is observed on CAM 05 while still there, his progress will immediately be set to 0, and will also be set to 0, overall slowing down his rate of progress gain.
Once Foxy has reached nine stages (his "kill" stage), every frame that the monitor is up, he has a 10% chance to attack.
Foxy can be eliminated from the current night with the Death Coin, also eliminating Bonnie if he is active.
Freddy in Space 2[]
Foxy is one of the playable characters that can be unlocked by rescuing him in Lunar Mines level. His attack has low damage, low range, and low spread, thus Foxy isn't very good for combat. However, he has the highest jump height among all the playable characters, and is able to jump high enough to reach places that other characters are unable to reach. Foxy in Freddy in Space 2 also has a flamethrower, which can be upgraded through experience points (through the shop or fighting enemies).
Help Wanted[]
Foxy features in Help Wanted as a character in the VR game The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience.
WARNING: As Foxy is "dead" (The robot is destroyed and the soul is free) during the events of Help Wanted, this is NOT the real Foxy. Like the game implies, FNaF VR is a game made by Fazbear Ent. in the timeline, so this is not the real Foxy. Same with AR.
Foxy functions the exact same way they do in the fnaf 1 levels as they did in fnaf 1. Expect that upon arriving at the door they scratch the door very aggressively. If the player opens up the door while foxy is scratching they will be jumpscared which will result in a game over. They function the same way they in FNaF 2 within the FNaF 2 levels.
Foxy is also in a repair section. In this section, the player will follow the computer's voice instructions and repair Foxy, by putting his head on, putting his left eye back in, and replacing the power modules along his body. Should the player fail by giving him the wrong eye, dropping a power module, putting the wrong power module in, or looking too far away from Foxy, Foxy will leave his seat and soon rush at the player, jumpscaring them and ending their run.
FNaF AR: Special delivery[]
Foxy is one of the animatronics the player can encounter, though he is more rare than the other main four. He usually appears when the player has a streak of about 3-4 or higher. He will run around the player in circle, taunting the player. He will fake charge the player, only his eyes visible. He will often appear right in front of the player, twitching violently, and the player must quickly look away from him to avoid a jumpscare. When Foxy becomes visible during a charge, the player must shock him.

Trivia[]
- In the original Five Nights at Freddy's, Foxy leaves immediately upon arriving at a closed door after the first bang, so even though the sound effect is still playing, the left door can be opened.
- In the Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted game mode of the same name, this mechanic was removed, and if the door is opened before the sound effect is over, the player will be killed.
- If the player notices Foxy isn't in Pirate Cove, there is an amount of time where the player can close the door before viewing the West Hall and triggering his sprint (five to ten seconds). This technique may save a night when Foxy is particularly active by bypassing his trigger and essentially rendering him harmless.
- Foxy apparently sings the "Dum dum dum" song.
- Foxy is the only animatronic that can be seen actually moving on camera.
- Unlike the other animatronics, the screen doesn't shake when Foxy attacks the player.
- This is likely because unlike the other animatronics, Foxy does not jump into the player's face.
- This had lead people to jokingly state that Foxy isn't actually evil and is just checking on the guard, only killing him by giving him a heart attack in the process by accident. This has been disproved in later games.
- Foxy's death animation can be cancelled if the power runs out or if another animatronic gets in first.
- Before Foxy was created, his character was originally going to be a Wolf Animatronic, but the character was scrapped when Scott Cawthon conceived the character of Foxy the Pirate. The "wolf animatronic" concept later returned with both Twisted Wolf and Roxanne Wolf.
- Since the reveal of the final screen of the Lorekeeper ending in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Simulator, that the child (based on the position of Foxy's head in the Good Ending of FNaF 3) possessing Foxy is Fritz which is also in the novel Fourth Closet.
- Foxy is unique to all of the other enemies, as he is the only one who cannot be seen glitching and is the only animatronic you can see physically moving from place to place.
- Foxy's scream is a modified version of the pregnant lady's scream from the 1981 Sci-Fi horror movie "Inseminoid".
- At first, Foxy was commonly mistaken as a female, due to his feminine name, similarly to Bonnie.
- At the end of Night 6 of Five Nights at Freddy's 2, the older Foxy, along with the other older animatronics, are kept for a possible reopening of the pizzeria, even if on a smaller budget.
- During the early days of the franchise, gifs of Foxy's running animation began to circulate with the caption "Swiggity Swooty, Coming For That Booty", which has become a meme.
- Funnily enough, this was the inspiration for one of his death quotes in Custom Night ("Yargh, I came for ye booty! That... be treasure, y'know.").
- A bug exists that can be exploited to make any night that involves Foxy being active a lot easier. It is extremely tricky to attempt in the first place so it is only advised if you are patient. The instructions are located here.
- Foxy was infamously the first animatronic to "kill" YouTuber Markiplier during his many playthroughs of the series.
- When Chris McCullough reached 4,000 subscribers on YouTube, he actually did a cover of "You Are a Pirate" from Lazy Town with Foxy's voice.
- Foxy is the first ever damaged animatronic in the franchise.
- It is shown in the in-universe cartoons leading up to the release of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach that Foxy has been the main antagonist of the Fazbear franchise before his redemption, which would make him the in-universe big bad.
- Despite wearing a suit, Foxy makes a sound as if he is lighter than a Bare Endo, showing no sign of weight when roaming or charging.
- Foxy and Circus Baby are the only characters to ever speak as they charge.
- Foxy mentions having a bird in one of his quotes, but he is never seen with a bird in any of the Five Nights at Freddy's games.
- However, some of the cutouts in the Pirate Ride from Curse of Dreadbear depicted him with a green parrot, which could imply that he had one at some point, likely prior to becoming disrepaired.
- Said parrot resembles that of Rockstar Foxy from Pizzeria Simulator.

- Foxy is the first animatronic to get a skin in the Wasteland Event, being Radioactive Foxy.
- This is also Foxy's first skin in Special Delivery.
- Radioactive Foxy is the first of few skins that has a different pose and animation compared to its original counterpart.
- The other skins being Toxic Springtrap and Firework Freddy.
- Big Bad Foxy has two different appearances based off what gameplay segment he's viewed from.
- The second form is a grandma disguise, which harkens back to how in the original fairytale, the Big Bad Wolf dresses up as Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother in an attempt to trick her.
- He is the first skin to do this since the Arcade Mayhem event.
- Both versions of Big Bad Foxy have 3D profile icons.
- This implies that once VR Toy Freddy and Highscore Toy Chica gain their own, they will also gain two for each of their separate forms.
- Big Bad Foxy was leaked before the Scary Tales Event started despite not being the skin to start the event off.
- This most likely happened due to his assets being added because the Event going back to it's normal schedule once it started.
- Radioactive Foxy returns as "Poison Foxy" in the game Security Breach Fury's Rage.
- Radioactive Foxy's mystery mini strangely uses Mangle's mystery mini mold rather than Foxy's, as seen by the eyelashes on the figure.
- Despite being in space, Foxy is the one of the only playable characters that are not wearing a space suit.
- The others being The Puppet and Golden Freddy.
