Joe Bachner was a serial killer and the main antagonist of the ninth season of Criminal Minds ''The Edge of Winter''.

Bachner was born on July 13, 1974 and he was raised in Pennsylvania, Bachner lost his parents in a car accident on May 7. He was sent, then to live with his aunt; Julianna Hartig, a nurse who lived in Hamilton, New York. Hartig was an alcoholic and abusive to Bachner and locked him in a shed and left him for days. And whenever she got angry, she would drop bees on him. And Bachner suffered from hundreds of bee stings, Social Services once discovered Hartig's abuse of Bachner, and Hartig was arrested. After that, Bachner as an adult got a job as a electrician for a company called Conway Electric. He also kidnapped a woman, but she survived and dropped her changes against him. Probably afraid of his retalation.
Thereafter, in 2012 Hartig would die of cardiac arrest depriving Bachner of any chance of revenge. He would later meet Daria Samsen who was a medical student, and so he remembered Hartig. He then kidnapped, raped and tortured her, putting her in a state of total obdience. He then started randomly killing people, he killed three victim being Carrie that he held captive beside Daria. Then Carrie managed to smuggle the toolbox she and Daria were in, the two tried to escape.
But Bachner heard the sounds and wounded Carrie with a rifle shot. And only Daria ran away, enraged by the incident, Bachner moved into the unoccupied home of a client of his co-worker Cody Peters. He then kidnapped and killed Melissa Coleman and presumably raped her; then he kidnapped Lionel, and tried to get Carrie to help him with the torture but failed.
After that, BAU spotted Bachner with Daria's help, and Bachner stabbed Carrie with an ice pick and ran away, but was caught by Rossi who shot him, wounding him. After that, Bachner was arrested.
