~ The Prototype talking to Huggy Wuggy in Project: Playtime. |
“ | Harley Sawyer: Ready to talk now, are you? The Prototype: I... possess... a question. Harley Sawyer: Go ahead... The Prototype: Do you... feel... anything? Harley Sawyer: This question referring to what exactly? The Prototype: You stick us. Beat us. Tear at flesh. Do you feel it? Harley Sawyer: There is a secret inside you, 1006. Valuable beyond all measure. I cut and prod and burn at it, and I get closer with each session... So speak, or don't. Fight, or give in. Regardless, I learn something new about you every day... It excites me! The Prototype: Thank you. Harley Sawyer: You... thank me? The Prototype: Absolutely! I learn something new about you every day. |

~ The Prototype conversing with Harley Sawyer, ending with it mimicking his voice. |
Experiment-1006, better known as the Prototype, is the main antagonist of the Poppy Playtime franchise.
He is a mysterious but incredibly intelligent and dangerous mechanical entity created by Playtime CO., and is greatly feared by its inhabitants. As the prototype for future experiments of the Bigger Bodies Initiative, hence the name, Experiment-1006 would go on to sabotage the project to prevent the creation of more toys from children and employees.
After gathering enough toys to carry out his bidding, the Prototype orchestrated "the Hour of Joy", an event which lead to most of the toys going on a rampage, in which they massacred nearly all of the staff in Playtime CO., after they failed to contain him, resulting in the company's dissolution and the facility being shut down and abandoned, leaving only the Prototype and the rest of the monstrous toys, who continue to reside in the the abandoned facility. As of now, the Prototype assimilates dead toys into himself for some unknown goal.
He is voiced by Michael Kovach in Project: Playtime, who also voiced the Scientist in the same game, Niles in SMG4, N in Murder Drones and Rocky Rickaby in Lackadaisy. In Chapter 3, as he mimics the voices of several characters, he is voiced by Elijah Delaney, Nola Klop, Eric True, Avalon Delaney, Baldwin Williams Jr., Micah Preciado, and Joaquin Augusto.
Appearance[]
The true appearance of the Prototype is currently unknown, though CatNap's altar reveals he has at least a roughly inhuman and amalgamated appearance with 4 spider-like legs and a human skull for a head. One of his arms is long and mechanical, consisting of a large claw with a set of five long fingers with several pivots on each. The arm also has human bones and veins attached to it, implying that, aside from other toys, he had made the remains of the humans he had killed a part of him. The Prototype also has been hinted to be gigantic in size, as his arm alone was nearly the length of Catnap’s entire body. 1006 likely has human and toy remains (like Mommy Long Legs and CatNap) strung throughout his body, resembling CatNap's altar.
Personality[]
Upon first inspection, the Prototype may be mistaken for a wild, ruthless, bloodthirsty and misanthropic tyrant driven solely by a desire to engage in senseless acts of aggression. Nevertheless, various VHS tapes have provided evidence that this entity possesses an exceptionally high level of intelligence and exhibits strategic thinking. One account narrated by an unidentified scientist who worked at the factory detailed a remarkable incident in which the Prototype demonstrated his resourcefulness. Confined within a cell, he managed to fashion a laser pointer out of a digital alarm clock and cunningly employed it to manipulate a surveillance camera, ultimately facilitating his escape.
In the Chapter 1 trailer, there is a noticeable and attention-grabbing flashing message in the background. This message implies that the Prototype, unlike the other characters, does not require sustenance to survive. This suggests that the Prototype may engage in acts of killing simply out of a deep-seated enjoyment in causing pain and suffering, rather than any actual need for sustenance.
In Chapter 2, when the Prototype emerges for the first time in a physical form, something peculiar happens. Despite the fact that he has just taken the torn remnants of Mommy Long Legs, a toy known for its aggression towards the player, the Prototype displays no signs of hostility towards the player themselves. This unexpected behavior suggests that the Prototype has been silently observing the player's every move leading up to this moment. It raises the possibility that the Prototype may have undisclosed intentions or hidden motives for encouraging the player to eliminate the other toys.
Despite how ruthless, destructive and bloodthirsty the Prototype is, he shows a strong loathing and hatred towards Harley Sawyer and much of the rest of the company for their highly abusive and immoral practices by turning their orphan children into toys to be used for labor, with his hatred of the scientists and their treatment of the children acting as the crux for his motivation of stopping the experiments, however this makes him a hypocrite as the toys he amasses into himself are implied to be in extreme pain, making him no better that the scientists he hates (although this is most likely his way of keeping them safe even after they died). He also seems to express some degree of sympathy for the children, such as Theodore Grambell, whom he assisted when they tried to escape Playtime Co.. When Theodore severely electrocutes himself with the GrabPack, instead of continuing with making his perfect escape, the Prototype instead willingly gets him somewhere where others will notice him and save him. He also comforts and emphasizes CatNap in the official "Sleep Well" song, placing his hand on his shoulder when CatNap is reminded of his human life, which means that, despite killing him in the near end of Chapter 3, the Prototype deeply cares about the children.
Powers and Abilities[]
“ | "Log Code 08502. In relation: Experiment 1-0-0-6, 'The Prototype.' A close call occurred this week, in which he nearly breached containment. The Prototype seemingly disassembled the digital alarm clock within his room, and utilized the battery along with several other components to create a laser pointer, which he then fired into the security camera, disabling it. These actions allowed him 28.3 seconds completely unmonitored. Once function returned to the camera, the room appeared to be empty. One surveillance specialist went in to confirm his absence. However, upon opening the door, she realized that the Prototype had hidden in one of the camera's blind spots. The Prototype attempted to escape through the open door; however, another surveillance specialist was able to remotely re-lock the door, despite the other specialist still being inside. One casualty occurred. The Prototype seems to possess an unprecedented level of intelligence beyond that of all other test subjects, as well as an alarming willingness to commit violence. Further suppression treatments will need to be enacted to ensure that no other experiments develop these qualities. | „ |
~ The Scientist Describing how intelligent and resourceful The Prototype is. |
Being the most intelligent and ruthless experiment in the Playtime CO factory, The Prototype is very patient and cunning entity who always outsmart any staff members that who against his plans to murder nearly all people in the Playtime CO. factory, he is also extremely intelligent, resourceful, and manipulative enough to sway the toys into aiding him in his goals.
It also reveals that he can mimics any voices and personalities from anyone as he talks to Harley Sawyer about as him a judgmental question of how he feels remorse or not.
- Superhuman intelligence and coordination: The Prototype has been said to have created a laser pointer capable of disabling a camera for 28.3 seconds (exactly) out of just a digital alarm clock. He also hid in one of the camera's blind spots once it reactivated to try to escape. He is also intelligent (& sapient) enough to be able to bond with Theodore Grambell & try to save him when their escape attempt (which he probably thought about all by himself) went south. He is also intelligent enough to successfully organize a massive rebellion against Playtime CO. without much difficulty aside from avoiding anything dangerous to him at the time. He is also intelligent enough to be able to graft dead toys onto his body.
- Laser pointer (possible): The Prototype used this in Log Code: 08502 to disable the security camera in his cell for 28.3 seconds (exactly, in fact). There is a possibility that it can disable other security cameras for possibly the same amount of time. It is unknown, however, if it can harm living beings, but likely not.
- Intimidation: The Prototype's grafting habits & extreme abiliities make him feared by all the other toys. CatNap establishing his cult which was notorious for its brutality against "heretics" only made him more feared. The Prototype is seemingly aware of this and may have even used CatNap and his cult as his henchmen.
- Superhuman dexterity: The Prototype was quick enough to be faster than a human inside when he tried to escape his cell, only being stopped by the re-locking mechanism. The specialist was still inside when the door closed, and the Scientist said that it was "a close call", likely implying that the door closed just as the Prototype was a few meters away from it. He is also flexible enough to fit inside a ventilation shaft from the ceiling hatch in the Safe Room: the same hatch that CatNap came from when the Player deals the final blow.
- Superhuman strength: The Prototype is extremely strong and brutal man, as he is capable of killing toys or adults that go against his plans, even those known for their enhanced durability.
- Sharp claws: The Prototype uses these to collect dead toys (in Mommy and CatNap's case) or to kill his targets (for CatNap (again), the specialist in his cell, & during the Hour of Joy). These are also able to scratch the walls as seen by the message "WONDERFUL" in Chapter 1.
- Enhanced Reach: One of the Prototype's arms (in this case, the arm he uses to kill & gather toy corpses) is capable of reaching Mommy's torso through a small gap. This arm is also capable of killing Catnap from a cramped area from the hatch above the Safe Room.
- Stealth: The Prototype likely has the same hiding capabilities of CatNap, albeit better. The most notable example being him hiding in one of the blind spots of the camera in his cell. He is also able to take the body parts of toys in a way where the only visible part of him is the claw he uses to gather the dead toys.
Biography[]
Origins[]
The Prototype was created by Playtime CO. at an unknown point in time, before every other known Toy. He was designed as the prototype of the Bigger Bodies Initiative, a project to make Playtime's toys come to life as creatures that would work at the factory, but sometime after his creation, he began rebelling against the company and actively showed violent tendencies. At one point, the Prototype would befriend a young boy named Theodore Grambell and convinced him to try to let the Prototype out of his cell; while the attempt was successful, Theo was horribly injured, and the Prototype gave up his freedom to save the boy's life, resulting in his transformation into CatNap.
On August 8th 1995, the Prototype and CatNap started a massive rebellion against Playtime's scientists known as "the Hour of Joy", with the factory's toys slaughtering every single employee there, guilty or innocent, and then eating their corpses.
Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze[]
Experiment-1006 is mentioned in the death screens, where the player is asked how they think of him.
A huge claw mark with the word "WONDERFUL" was left by The Prototype in the breaker room in the lobby that the player goes into after getting the key from Huggy Wuggy.
The Prototype is mentioned in a VHS tape in the factory. In it, a scientist is explaining how 1006 is missing and directly responsible for the trouble happening in the factory, but explains that he will not harm the research. Screams and Huggy Wuggy's roar are heard in the background and the tape ends abruptly, implying that either Huggy Wuggy or the Prototype killed the scientist. As the tape plays, the Prototype's hand appears on the screen before the tape ends.
Chapter 2: Fly In A Web[]
At the end of the chapter, Mommy Long Legs begs the player not to kill her, fearing she'll join "him". After she dies, a large and skinny metal needle hand belonging to Experiment-1006 grabs her remains and drags them into the darkness.
Experiment-1006 is then mentioned in a VHS once again. In it, he is described as being very intelligent, but also very destructive. He is even stated to have made a laser to disable the cameras and escape. This ended in the casualty of an employee. Experiment-1006 is mentioned once again in the death screens, where they said that he was loose which led to the emergency lockdown, as it was mentioned in what happened in the first Experiment-1006 tape.
Chapter 3: Deep Sleep[]
Experiment-1006 appears directly in a VHS showing one of his sessions with Harley Sawyer. According to the scientist, the Prototype had been silent in all previous sessions but this time he asked him whether he could feel all the pain he inflicted the toys with his experiments and later taunting him about how he learns new things about him with each session, just as Sawyer does with him. At some point, the Prototype saved CatNap's life and began to be worshiped by the feline toy as a god and savior to all the toys imprisoned at Playtime, forcing other toys to join his cult and even building a shrine to the Prototype in the caves surrounding Playcare, the underground orphanage built by Playtime CO.
At the end of the chapter, when Catnap is set ablaze and has his fur burnt off by the player, the Prototype's hand appears through a vent above his dying follower, who then stabs his claws inside CatNap's mouth, killing him, and taking his now-lifeless body away by his master for his failure. Soon after that, it is also revealed by another VHS how Experiment-1006 orchestrated the toys' breakout and the massacre of the entire Playtime CO. staff including innocent visitors in what came to be known as the "Hour of Joy" under his orders. With the Player and Poppy using an elevator by the final moment of the chapter's end, the Prototype presumably attacked Kissy Missy where she is heard screaming in agony.
Other Media[]
Project: Playtime[]
In the canon spin-off game Project: Playtime, the Prototype doesn't make any physical appearances, but his claws are also one of the collectable GrabPack skins found in the game.
It is also heavily implied that the one that instructs the monstrous toys during the tutorial is the Prototype, seeking to stop Playtime CO. from continuing the Bigger Bodies Initiative, which would lead to more orphans suffering.

Trivia[]
- It was initially theorized that Experiment-1006 was Huggy Wuggy.
- Others theorized that 1006 was actually the Player, and some suggested that it was Mommy Long Legs. Although all of them were disproven in Chapter 2 via the VHS tapes for Huggy, a clipboard in Statues for Mommy, Mommy saying that we worked for Playtime Co. for the Player, and 1006 showing up to collect Mommy's remains for all of them.
- It is theorized that the Prototype is possessed by Elliot Ludwig, the founder and CEO of Playtime CO., who is angry and vengeful out of a newfound desire to assimilate with dead toys, representing Ludwig's unwillingness to move on from his loved one's (theorized to be his daughter's) death.
- Due to the numbering of the experiments in Playtime CO., fans have theorized that the Prototype was created before Huggy Wuggy (Experiment-1170) and Mommy Long Legs (Experiment-1222), but after a failed experimentation with a rat (Experiment-814). This same line of reasoning had also led fans to conclude that the Prototype was actually created some time after Poppy was, being the second successful attempt at creating a sentient toy.
- Mommy Long Legs strongly implies that the toys the Prototype assimilates are still conscious even after being assimilated. If this is true, that would make the Prototype responsible for countless toys suffering.
- Unlike other toys trophies, his trophy name is "Claw".
- Some believe that instead of Catnap sacrificing himself to 1006, Catnap thought that The Prototype would save him like he did long ago, only for 1006 to kill him so he can amass more parts.
- It is theorized that the Prototype is actually Ollie because the voice is exactly like the real Ollie. Prototype mimicked Ollie's voice on purpose because Poppy wouldn't suspect it. When he says that "so we can save a lot of people, including you", it really means that he is only tricking the player into believing his commands, and by "save a lot of people", means that the people are already eaten by the toys in order for them to survive after The Hour of Joy.
- Another reason why Ollie is the Prototype is likely because it is known that the Prototype is the only experiment who doesn't need food to sustain himself, while other toys are starving, and it's been 10 years since The Hour Of Joy, which means that it's impossible for a human to survive for that long without food or water.
- A problem with this theory is that although Poppy says all adults present in the factory, guilty or innocent, were killed by the experiments, she doesn't say if the children died or were freed.
- However, the VHS Tape where Miss Delight pleads with CatNap to let her see the children only to be denied possibly due to her murderous nature suggests that they are at least alive & were likely released.
- Another problem is that it is unknown how the Prototype gains the voices he mimics, as he is a full-blown amalgamation of souls sharing one body (possibly explaining the changing voices during his talk with Harley Sawyer before the end) or just requires enough concentration to mimic a target's voice (possibly explaining how he perfectly mimicked Harley Sawyer's voice without all the other voices interrupting in the end of the log).
- Poppy also seems to know about Ollie to the point where she encourages the player to trust his advice. Given her intellect, it would seem difficult for anyone posing as Ollie (in this case, the Prototype) to keep up the facade for very long.
- An explanation for Ollie saying that they can save a lot of people, could mean other kids like Ollie are alive in the factory and want to get out but can't, Ollie wants to save the toys likely due to being raised by the toys (and likely taught how to use technology by the Prototype or Mommy Long Legs) so Ollie views them as people too, the "saving" is actually setting the souls of the children and adults trapped in their toy prisons free.
- By this explanation, Ollie might have been just a small child adopted during the Hour of Joy & is therefore most likely 10-11 years old.
- A problem with this theory is that although Poppy says all adults present in the factory, guilty or innocent, were killed by the experiments, she doesn't say if the children died or were freed.
- The theorist channel, Game Theory theorized that Ollie was a child who was popular among the toys, but has disappeared. The Prototype then used whatever memory he had of Ollie's voice to gaslight Poppy and mislead the Player.
- Another reason why Ollie is the Prototype is likely because it is known that the Prototype is the only experiment who doesn't need food to sustain himself, while other toys are starving, and it's been 10 years since The Hour Of Joy, which means that it's impossible for a human to survive for that long without food or water.
- The Prototype can be seen as a foil to:
- Elliot Ludwig. Both are highly intelligent and charismatic men who suffered a tragedy (Elliot lost a family member, The Prototype was tortured), which caused them to focus almost entirely on Playtime Co (Elliot wanted to make it better, The Prototype wanted revenge against them). They are also praised by some in the game and condemned by others.
- Ironically, it is theorized that both of them are one & the same.
- Harley Sawyer. Both are leaders of a specific group (Harley to Playtime, Prototype to the Toys), as well as being significantly the most deranged and intelligent in the group. Both have an interest in observing others, and both are shown to manipulate others through psychological exploits.
- Rich. Both are men who hate Playtime CO and have (or at least had in the Prototype's case) a soft spot for a child (Rich had his daughter, the Prototype has Theo/CatNap).
- Poppy Playtime. Both are experiments made by the scientists who are described in one way or another as perfect, experienced a tragedy connected to Playtime CO, and are aided by a large and furry creature (Kissy for Poppy and CatNap for the Prototype).
- Ironically, we have yet to know about Kissy Missy's human identity, while we know that CatNap's human identity is Theodore Grambell.
- Kissy Missy also assists the player, rather than trying to kill them like CatNap.
- Kissy Missy's toy may have succeeded due to the tradition that is making a genderbent version of a toy company's most successful mascot, while CatNap's toy was discontinued due to the Red Smoke inside it.
- Ironically, we have yet to know about Kissy Missy's human identity, while we know that CatNap's human identity is Theodore Grambell.
