"...Get up... ...Wake up now... ...Do you forget... what you should do? ...Destroy it now... ...You can do it! ...You're the best of all my works... ...Wake up... "
~ Wily communicating with Zero in Mega Man X5.

Dr. Albert W. Wily is the overrarching antagonist of the Mega Man X series. After fusing his consciousness with the Maverick Virus before his death, he would plan to continue his legacy through Zero, his creation's fight against Sigma causing the latter to fall into vilainy and begin a campaign to exterminate humanity.

Unlike his Classic counterpart, this version of Wily is a cold and merciless monster, lacking any comedic or traits or honor, with his hatred of Light strong enough that he is willing to cause the extinction of humanity just to kill X and spite his former partner.

Due to his ability to switch bodies, Wily turned into a mysterious figure that easily escapes punishment because of his nature as part of the Maverick Virus, abandoning a robotic body and identity when convenient.

Synopsis[]

Wily was working in Zero, his greatest creation, but unable to finish it due to his old age and Zero's unstable behavior, he created the Zero Virus to "purify" him so he can fulfill his purpose of destroying Mega Man. Before dying, he would upload his consciousness to live on inside the Maverick virus. A century later, Sigma, in a mission, found Zero rampaging, and had a brutal fight where he would only win due to the Maverick Virus activating and causing Zero great pain, giving Sigma an opportunity to give a crushing blow to Zero's gem inside the helmet, but infecting himself in progress, eventually causing his downfall and the beginning of the Maverick Wars.

In Mega Man X2, specially in the Japanese script, it's all but started that Serges is Wily, with his appearance, mistaking X for Rock for a moment, mentioning Light and lamenting his own defeat at the hands of his creation. Sigma also mentions that he knows Zero's secret if the player successfully collects all his parts, this secret being likely Zero's origins and the true purpose of his creation.

In Mega Man X4, Wily appears in a dream to Zero, mentioning that his rivalry with Light is his motivation to live before ordering "he"'s destruction.

In Mega Man X5, Wily meets Sigma through unknown methods, informs him about how Zero's original nature as a destroyer of civilization can be awakened by the Zero Virus. This results in the Eurasia Space Station crashing into earth, causing the Zero Virus's formation and the Earth's surface being inhabitable for humans. His symbol appears in Zero Stage 1 and 3, showing his involvement in the crash. Through he doesn't appear in person, Sigma mentions his hatred for X, creation of a body, and his relation to Zero.

In Mega Man X6, it's also all but stated that Isoc, a subordinate of Gate, is another body for Wily, due to his knowledge about Zero, angry reaction when X defeats High Max in contrast to the joy when Zero does it instead, a voice telling Zero he is the "strongest robot" being heard when he finds Isoc's corpse, and him sharing the same voice actor for Wily in the Japanese version.

With the Maverick Virus being destroyed through the Mother Elf, Wily's machinations would still have a lasting effect in spite of his own likely death, the Maverick Wars caused by him would inspire the human scientist Weil to begin Project Elpizo, create Omega, and start the even more destructive Elf Wars, that wiped out 90% of Reploids and 60% of humans.

Wily's legacy and contributions to robotics would be remembered in the Mega Man Zero series in spite of his malevolence and contribution to the dire state of the world. In Mega Man Zero 3, blueprints of Zero and his name can be seen on the on the background as: "Dr. W. No.∞" and "Dr. W LASTN. ZERO"

Ironically, in spite of his original purpose as a harbringer of destruction, Zero would save the world from Weil's attempt at eradicating life on earth out of spite for his tyranny being foiled

What makes him a Complete Monster?[]

In General[]

  • While he got angry at being in Light's shadow, he goes way, way too far to even remotely justify his actions.
  • His "care" for Zero is nothing more than egotism, since he is his legacy and tries to make him destroy X unwillingly will.
  • He lacks any of his Classic counterpart's redeeming moments or comedic traits.
  • Created the Maverick Virus, that thanks to Sigma getting infected by it, would cause his rebelion and move to commit genocide against humanity. This means every single tragedy in the series, from the Sky Lagoon incident, to the Eurasia crash into Earth can be traced to him because Sigma caused them.
  • He is willing to cause humanity's extinction just to kill X and spite Light.

Mega Man X2[]

  • As Serges, he would aid Sigma in his plot to revive Zero and making him a weapon to destroy X.

Mega Man X5[]

  • Informs Sigma about the Zero Virus, and aids him in the plan to make Eurasia crash into Earth so Zero goes back to his original purpose of killing X. The crash would make the Earth's surface inhabitable for humans, forcing them underground.
  • Would build a new body for Sigma to combat X and Zero.

Mega Man X6[]

  • As Isoc, associates with Gate and aids him in his Nightmare experiments, endangering many reploids.
