He is an extremely villainous diesel engine with a rooftop hydraulic claw nicknamed "Pinchy" who is noted by Thomas for being 10 out of 10 devious deeds and brutal strength. Diesel 10 is described to be a feared diesel throughout the Island of Sodor as he has been causing trouble for steam engines, but is also obsessed on wanting to destroy a magical steam engine named Lady. In the past, he deliberately caused her to crash, but although he badly damaged her, Diesel 10 failed to destroy Lady. In Calling All Engines, he was voiced by Michael Brandon in the US version while in the UK version, he was voiced by the late Michael Angelis. Trivia[]
- In Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Diesel 10 was originally going to be voiced by Australian voice actor, Keith Scott but was cut in the final cut because the test audiences complain about Diesel 10's voice.[1]
- However despite that, Keith Scott's voice is heard in the original trailer.[2]
- In the original story of Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Diesel 10 was a new engine to the island. Also, Pinchy was going to be hidden beneath Diesel 10's Roof. This later kept in the book, Diesel 10 Means Trouble.[1][3]
- When Neil Crone replaced Keith Scott as the voice of Diesel 10, he had a Russian accent, but due to complaints from test audiences, he used a New Jersey accent instead.[1]
- Despite being named Diesel 10, in Thomas and the Magic Railroad, most of the characters simply called him Diesel.
- Outside of Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Pinchy has not been named, and is simply referred a claw.
- Diesel 10 is British since he is a British Rail Class 42.
- Diesel 10 only appear in films, and specials until the Season 17 episode, The Missing Decorations where it was Diesel 10's last appearance.
- Diesel 10 was the only character that first appeared in Thomas and the Magic Railroad to appear in CGI.
- In early concept art, Diesel has his name on his side, and Pinchy was small.
- Diesel 10's name was believed as a reference to him being the 10th diesel character introduced in the TV Show.
- The original Diesel 10 wooden railway toy has 3 windows, however in Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Diesel 10 has two windows.
- Diesel 10 is the first villain to be an arch-nemesis of the main protagonists.
- It's unknown why Diesel 10 appeared in Calling All Engines despite his defeat in Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
- It's unknown why Diesel 10 didn't appear after The Missing Decorations. likely because the writers and Mattel (the current owner of the series) thought he was too scary for the audience (due to the show being targeted at younger children) which is ironic since P.T. Boomer got removed from Thomas and the Magic Railroad for the same reason.
- It could also be because of how Thomas and the Magic Railroad was distributed by Destination Films, which is owned by Sony Pictures so the movie's characters are owned by Sony, therefore Mattel may not have the rights to Diesel 10 and the other characters.
- Another reason is that due to the negative reception that Thomas and the Magic Railroad received, Mattel wanted to strip all ties from the movie into the TV show to give the franchise a better public reception.
- Because of this, it's unknown what happened to Diesel 10 after the episode "The Missing Christmas Decorations", either he was sent away from Sodor forever, was transferred to work on a scrapyard in Barrow in Furness, or he was scrapped for good, likely because The Fat Controller/Sir Topham Hatt possibly believed he was too dangerous to be kept alive on his railway (or any railway for that matter) and would've had another Steam and Diesel conflict if he was kept alive.
- In real life, it's illegal to put a claw on an engine.
- It's currently unknown if Diesel 10's claw is actually alive itself or if the former is just joking around with it, though other rumours suggest that the claw could be faulty or simply malfunctioning.
- It is unknown if he will appear in the upcoming Live-Action/CGI-animated hybrid Thomas and Friends feature film, and it is (currently) unconfirmed if he will be the main antagonist of the film.
- Diesel 10 was never seen with a driver and there has was no mention of one. He oddly also doesn't appear to have any doors for one to enter inside him. He is also never seen pulling any rolling stock.
- Despite Britt Allcroft claiming that it just popped into her mind, it is believed that Diesel 10's name is a reference to him being the tenth diesel engine to be introduced into the franchise, and because he is rated "10 out of 10 for devious deeds and brutal strength". [4]
