Den Watts is the premier anti-hero and first ever protagonist villain from british soap opera EastEnders. He was seen as more an older jack the lad type with a criminal edge. Den appeared from the very first episode of EastEnders thats aired in February 1985 and he remained on the show until 1989 where the character was appeared to have been killed off but Den made a return to EastEnders 14 years later in 2003, Den left again 20 years after his first appearance in February 2005 where he would be killed off for real this time in a murder plot.

Originally Den has past dealings with other EastEnders villains such as gangsters Johnny Allen, Eric Mitchell, Jack Dalton and Andy Hunter. He also frequently clashed with other major antagonists including Nasty Nick Cotton and James Willmott-Brown.

In his second stint Den would discover he has a long lost son in Dennis Rickman, and ended up having a legendary rivalry with Phil Mitchell; so much so that Den would become of the very few characters to have gotten the better of Phil in a feud. Den's soft spot was his adoptive daughter Sharon Watts.

Den Watts was played by Leslie Grantham.

  • The scene where Den hands his wife Angie Watts their divorce papers during Christmas 1986 in the most watch scene in UK television for a TV show being watched by over 30 million people.
  • Den Watts is one of the most famous cases of faked deaths from soap.
