~ Daleks |
The Daleks are the central villains of the Doctor Who franchise. They are the secondary villains of the Classic series, and they are the villains antagonists of the Revival series. A race of xenophobic mutations in metal shells, the Daleks are driven by fear and hatred of everything different to them.
The Daleks fought the Time Lords in the Last Great Time War, ending in the near-total destruction of the Dalek race, until they rebuilt their empire. Intensely xenophobic and bent on universal domination, the Daleks were hated and feared throughout time and space.
History[]
Creation[]
The Daleks originated from the planet Skaro during a thousand-year-long war between the Kaleds and the Thals. They were originally Kaleds, but the chief scientist, Davros, determined that the only way for his people to survive the war was by accelerating their mutations that were becoming prevalent due to long-term nuclear warfare to determine the end result.
Davros further modified them for survival, altering their brain chemistry to remove all emotions except hate and anger and placing them in tank-like "Mark III Travel Machines", which were partly based on the design of his wheelchair. In order to survive, Davros determined that the Daleks would need to exterminate all other forms of life.
The Fourth Doctor was sent on a mission by the Time Lords to prevent the creation of the Daleks in the first place, or at the very least lessen the damage they would do in future. Arriving on Skaro, he discovered that many other members of Kaled Scientific Elite were against the project. To prevent this, Davros arranged for the Thals to aim a missile at the Kaled Dome where his people resided.
The newly christened Daleks were sent by Davros to exterminate the Thals, supposedly in retaliation for the attack on the Kaled Dome. They turned on Davros, as they were not programmed to recognise any creature as superior to them, apparently killing him. Whilst attempting to stop the Doctor, a Dalek accidentally triggered an explosion which destroyed the embryo room before the Thals sealed the bunker entrance and trapped the Daleks there. In the aftermath, the Doctor believed he had only held back their progress by about a thousand years or so, and that they would return.
Time on Skaro[]
The Daleks would set up a city on Skaro, their casings were powered by static electricity channeled by the metal floors of the City. They believed themselves to be the only beings on Skaro, and thus the Universe, until they encountered the First Doctor and his companions for the first time in The Daleks. They eventually found that the Thals had also survived what was known as the neutronic war. After discovering that they had become dependent on the background radiation to the point of the anti-radiation meds Susan gave them being lethal, the Daleks attempted to vent radiation from their nuclear reactors into the atmosphere which would have left them as the only living species on Skaro. The Doctor and his companions led a Thal assault and deactivated their power, believing that the Daleks were wiped out.

Davros returns[]
At some point in future history, the Daleks got involved in a war with a race of robots called the Movellans. In The Pilot, the Twelfth Doctor once arrived in a war zone during this conflict with Nardole and Bill Potts. By the time of Destiny of the Daleks, The conflict soon resulted in a stalemate: each side's purely logical battle computer kept them in deadlock. So as to circumvent this stalemate, the Daleks returned to Skaro to find Davros so his mind could reprogram their battle computers to win the war. However, the Fourth Doctor defeated them and the Movellans and Davros was taken by the Daleks' former slaves to stand trial. As revealed in Resurrection of the Daleks, the war continued for another 90 years, until the Movellans developed a virus to defeat the Daleks.
