Rugen
You're that little Spanish brat I taught a lesson to all those years ago. Simply incredible. Have you been chasing me all this time, only to fail now? I think that's the worst thing I've ever heard of... How marvelous.
~ Count Rugen taunting Inigo Montoya

Count Tyrone Rugen is the secondary antagonist of The Princess Bride. He is Prince Humperdinck's right hand man and murderer of Inigo Montoya's father. He is portrayed by Christopher Guest.

Early life[]

Count Rugen is the chief enforcer and torturer of Prince Humperdinck, ruler of Florin. He has six fingers on his right hand.

Twenty years before the events of The Princess Bride, Rugen commissioned Inigo Montoya's father Domingo to make a sword for him. When Domingo presented him with the sword, however, Rugen demanded it at a greatly reduced price than they had originally agreed to. When Domingo refused, Rugen stabbed him through the heart with his own sword. Enraged and heartbroken, Inigo challenged Rugen to a duel to avenge his father. Rugen easily defeated Inigo, but he spared the boy's life and scarred both sides of his face to "teach him a lesson". In the climax of the film, Inigo repays him the favour and stabs him in the heart.
