Villainess Overview
Synopsis

Forget it, Ladybug. You were right. We'll never be friends.
~ Lila revealing that she still hates Ladybug.
There's nothing you can do about it, anyway; people can't resist when they hear what they like to hear. If you don't want to be my friend, fine. But soon you won't have any friends left at all, and trust me, I'll make sure you never get close to Adrien in class or anywhere! You seem a little less dumb than the others, so I'll give you one last chance: you're either with me, or against me! You don't have to answer right away. I'll give you ‘till the end of class today.
~ Lila threatening Marinette.
I see you've made your decision, Marinette. From now on, you and I are at war. You will lose your friends and wind up all alone, and Adrien will soon be mine.
~ Lila Rossi.
So, you really think you can outsmart me, huh, Ladybug?! We'll see who finds who first.
~ Cerise's monologue at the end of Miraculous World: London.
Nothing. You'll know nothing about me, about us, about them. I'm everywhere, I'm nowhere, I'm a chameleon, nowhere. You won't get anywhere.
~ Cerise at the end of The Illustrhater.

Cerise Bianca (real name unknown, sometimes known as Lila Rossi, better known as Chrysalis and also known as Volpina, Chameleon, Hoaxer, Timestalker and Spectral Looter in her Akumatized forms), is the secondary antagonist of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, serving as the secondary antagonist of the first story arc and the main antagonist of the second story arc.

She is a former student in Miss Bustier's class at Collège Françoise Dupont. She is the love rival of Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug, competing for Adrien Agreste's affection. Her masterful manipulation tends to cause trouble for Ladybug and Cat Noir, especially after she allied herself with Hawk Moth. However, after she is revealed to be aware of the latter's secret identity, she begins plotting to steal his Miraculous. As of the episode "Re-creation", after Hawk Moth's defeat and death. she is the current holder of the Butterfly Miraculous, and is now Ladybug and Cat Noir's current archenemy, using the Butterfly Miraculous to transform into the Chrysalis, a butterfly-themed supervillain using her own improved version of akumas, known as ultrakumas. Unlike her predecessor, Chrysalis doesn't let anyone know anything about herself, including her gender, her age or even her intentions.

She is voiced by Clara Soares in French and by Lisa Kay Jennings in the English dub.

Personality[]

Lila is proud and loves attention, which she is willing to obtain with her pathological lying. This even means going beyond words to support her lies, like buying a necklace that looks like the Fox Miraculous to convince Adrien that she is a descendant of the fox-themed superhero or cause situations that can discredit whoever can threaten her lies. She gets jealous if someone gets more attention or love than her and doesn't like it when someone reveals that her lies aren't true, showing no remorse for lying in the first place. If anyone attempts to expose her, she won't hesitate to try to make them miserable or break them down just to get them out of her way. She also doesn't take advice from those who try to make peace with her or encourage her to be honest like Ladybug or Adrien. At first glance, it appeared that the reason why she acts like this was probably because her mother is away a lot with her busy job schedule, making Lila feel disheartened and using lies to cover up that loneliness to her mother and others that are around her.

It may also be why another reason she craves attention is because maybe Lila hates the life she has now as opposed to the one she wants: a life of fame and fortune. And whether Lila made a lie she would go to great lengths to keep it even to point of ignoring the danger she put herself disregarding her own safety. As well as maybe getting a little greedy and demanding with it as seen in "Emotion" just because she was female co-model of the alliance she easily thought it earned her a one way ticket into Gabriel's party.

Aside from being adept at lying, Lila possesses a great desire for vengeance, something that only evidences her real wicked nature. Lila doesn't easily forgive people who she feels wronged her, harboring a great deal of resentment against them and wasting no chance to get back at them in any way possible. The biggest example is her resentment against Ladybug, still being furious at her for ratting her out harshly and ruining her chance to woo Adrien, despite the superhero later apologizing to her. When Marinette tried in many ways to expose Lila's lies after the latter returned to the school and refused to submit to her, Lila made the decision to ruin Marinette's life in any way possible. Her drive to hurt the ones that wronged her is so great she is willing make alliances that make that easier, like her formal alliance with Gabriel Agreste that would allow her to both get closer to Adrien and have fame, but also would allow her to convince Gabriel that Marinette was a bad influence, while Gabriel would prey on the girl's hate towards Ladybug to akumatize her or to give him new victims. Chloe also became another ally for her for better torment Marinette in a more active way, while also manipulating the former for her own interests.

She is shown to be an ungrateful person, as shown in "Oni-Chan", where she showed no gratitude to Ladybug when she saves her from the titular villain.

But the one thing Lila hates more than the ones that get in their way is to be betrayed. When that happens, Lila focuses her attention on the person who betrayed her. This is seen when Gabriel Agreste spitefully dismissed her as the female face of his brand, not even warning her about Kagami replacing her. This drove Lila to formulate a plan to get back at him, luring Gabriel to akumatize her by channeling her anger against Marinette and then using his powers as Hoaxer to uncover Gabriel's secrets and planning to take the Butterfly Miraculous from him. Making a big plan of many steps that involved manipulating Chloé and preying on Gabriel's obsession with defeating Ladybug, she (as Cerise) managed to get the tools she needed to infiltrate the Agreste manor during Monarch's fight against Bug Noire and get the Butterfly Miraculous after it was lost during the battle. She has also shown to refuse anyone's help to try and become a better person, preferring to do this her own way and fulfil her selfish desires, as when Ladybug called a truce with their feud in "Chameleon", while Lila seeming accepted the offer, she went back right to intense hatred of the heroine, and whenever Adrien, Marinette and their friends have tried to help Lila being a good person by their good nature, instead of trying to become better, she decides to use people's goodness in their hearts for her personal, selfish desires, not caring who she has to hurt or ruin in the name of her selfish goals.

Lila is also not afraid to get her enemies' friends against them by manipulating and lying to them, portraying her enemy as the villain, and not having any care for the consequences that her lies may have on others, as she doesn't feel any remorse after almost causing some of her classmates and teachers to be akumatized by Scarlet Akumas after blaming Marinette of cheating, hurting her and stealing her necklace to turn everyone against her. Another example of this is shown in "Perfection" and "Protection" when she manipulates Kagami into thinking Marinette is a bad person. Later on, in "Confrontation", she has no problem in ruining her classmates' study paths just to turn them against Marinette.

Due to her talent to create the most convincing lies, Lila is extremely intelligent and observant, being able to notice the most subtle details, especially when she is motivated by her hatred and grudge. Similar to Félix, Lila was able to deduce Gabriel Agreste was Monarch and used that information in her favor, manipulating the supervillain for her gain, like convincing him to akumatize Kagami again to separate Adrien and Marinette in "Protection".

The extension of her lies goes further than her school and social life, as they also extend into her family life. It's revealed that Lila has at least three identities, along with three different mothers, keeping them ignorant of the existence of each other by making them believe she does a lot of travel around the world due to works such as acting and conservation of endangered species. That also proves how vile she is, pretending to travel around the world doing charity work as well as filming a movie. Her different alter egos might hint a personality disorder as she obsessively tries to hide her true name and identity behind her fake ones. Her true identity is still a mystery as well as some of her objectives.

After obtaining the Butterfly Miraculous, Cerise wasted no time in using it against Ladybug, demonstrating a much greater proficiency and intelligence than Gabriel in wielding its powers. In her first use, during "Miraculous London," instead of following Gabriel's usual tactics, she chose to akumatize herself. Cerise devised a plan that aimed to discover Ladybug's identity and capture both the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous. She was clever enough to avoid being captured herself; she didn’t wear the Butterfly Miraculous or her akumatized object, ensuring that Ladybug couldn't take the Miraculous back or deakumatize her during their confrontation and even disguised herself with a new civillian identity to avoid being recognized in case that Ladybug somehow managed to deakumatize her. Cerise also took care to transform into supervillain forms that concealed her gender and remained silent while fighting Ladybug.

Additionally, Cerise displayed consistently abusive behavior toward Nooroo, indicating that she sees him merely as a power source for the Miraculous. This is notably illustrated in "The Illustrhater," where Cerise completely immobilizes Nooroo when she isn't transformed. This contrasts sharply with Gabriel, who allowed Nooroo some freedom of movement and speech, albeit sometimes reprimanding him. Cerise disregards Nooroo’s concerns when he urges her to consider the moral implications of her actions and questions why she is causing chaos in Paris. Instead, she silences him without explanation, highlighting the darkness in her heart, which extends even to those who genuinely care for her. This is evident when Nooroo expresses relief that her world-ending plan failed in "Miraculous London." In "Daddycop," when he tries to reason with her, Cerise immediately paralyzes Nooroo simply for speaking to her and refers to him as "kwami" with disgust. This shows that she doesn't consider Nooroo as a person but rather as a power source. In contrast, Gabriel allowed Nooroo to understand his motivations for villainy and briefly considered Nooroo’s moral reflections before returning to his dark path.

Furthermore, while Cerise’s intended wish to Gimmi remains unknown, it is hinted to have the potential to destroy the entire universe, unlike Gabriel's wish, which was simply to heal himself and his loved ones.

Cerise also tends to lose her temper when her carefully crafted plans fail or when others outsmart her. This was evident when Chronobug altered her notebook, specifically the page that revealed her secret identity, which caused Cerise to have a fit of rage.

As Chrysalis, she is extremely secretive. Unlike Gabriel, who openly reveals his identity as Hawk Moth, she has chosen to remain entirely in the shadows. She refuses to disclose her villain name, even to her enemies, and goes so far as to conceal her gender and age from her akumatized minions. This highlights her remarkable ability to hide her true identity and prevent the heroes from uncovering who she really is. By maintaining this secrecy, she can seamlessly blend in with the other Parisians, allowing her to observe her enemies without being detected.

Additionally, Chrysalis is much more manipulative in her interactions with her akumatized minions than Hawk Moth ever was. Upon first contact, she adopts a different approach by pretending to care about their needs. Instead of immediately revealing her minions' villain names, she allows them to choose their own names. This tactic helps her manipulate them more effectively, as it prevents them from rebelling against her. Chrysalis lets her akumatized supervillains act freely and subtly convinces them to target Ladybug and Cat Noir’s Miraculous, whenever the heroes interfere. This strategy makes the heroes appear as the villains in the eyes of the akumatized villains, suggesting that Ladybug and Cat Noir deserve to have their jewels taken from them. However, she is quick to drop that façade the moment the akumatized minions start to stray away from her orders or reveal something about her towards the heroes, threatening to remove their powers, even if they're in a position, which would make it dangerous for them, showing her disregard for her villains and that she only sees them as tools to do her bidding. In "El Toro De Piedra", it is shown that she is able to very quickly get a grasp of what her victims want to hear, as demonstrated by her taking on a more forceful demeanor after Raúl Bruel got angry at her during his akumatization.

Also, as shown in "Yaksi Gozen", she's aware of Félix being a sentibeing and willingly conspirates with Tomoe Tsurugi to steal Félix's amok to force him to be their spy, showing no remorse at the idea of controlling him. It is also showed that, unlike Hawk Moth, Chrysalis does not improvise and sticks to her plan to the letter, something that lowers the risk of casting suspicion over herself and her allies. This is showed when, at the chance of getting Kagami's ring or even the Peacock Miraculous, Chrysalis opted to abandon the plan after the original objective was compromised, as, if she had done it, the heroes could have suspected of Tomoe Tsurugi and potentially connect both of them.

As Volpina, when she was akumatized for the first time, she proved to be a determined and vengeful character, driven by the desire to settle scores with Ladybug. Deeply humiliated after being exposed as a liar, she channelled her resentment into a meticulously calculated plan to deceive and manipulate, showing a complete lack of scruples. She used sophisticated illusions to create chaos, such as when she threatened to collapse a building on civilians or emotionally manipulated Ladybug by using Adrien, aiming for Ladybug's surrender.

Volpina demonstrated a notable ability to avoid direct physical confrontation. She preferred to use her cleverness and illusions to attack without engaging in combat, like when she created multiple copies of herself to confuse Ladybug and Cat Noir, or when she simulated a missile threat to intimidate Ladybug and force her to comply with her demands.

In her second akumatization, Volpina became more willing to collaborate with Hawk Moth, actively participating in his plan to turn Heroes' Day into chaos. Her ability to create illusions remained, but that time her goal was broader: to become a nightmare for the entire city. Her most impactful illusion was that of an evil Ladybug destroying Cat Noir, aiming to undermine public trust in the heroes.

In her third akumatization, her resentment toward Ladybug remained the driving force behind her actions. Once again, she collaborated with Scarlet Moth and devised an even more elaborate strategy, creating an illusion of him to deceive the heroes, showing how calculating she could be. Although her plan ultimately failed, this only fueled her fury, as Volpina never stopped questioning the justice and power of Ladybug and Cat Noir, challenging them with the idea that they could have used their abilities to improve the world in a more meaningful way.

As Chameleon, because she was akumatized voluntarily, her personality remained the same, using her powers to get even with the ones that she believed wronged her. For example, she took Adrien's form to make him look bad and at the same time to lead Ladybug into a "trap". Her desire to defeat Ladybug was so great that she preferred to advance to battle her than take an unconscious Cat Noir's Miraculous to Hawk Moth.

As Hoaxer, her vengeful personality became much more intense, as she used her power to convince everyone that Marinette was Monarch to turn them against her, as well as convincing them that Ladybug and Cat Noir were aliens that would destroy the ozone layer to defeat them, as the superheroes would not have used their powers against civilians. Not just that, but Hoaxer showed to be very intelligent, keeping herself inside the system of the Alliances to avoid physical confrontation and even using her pursue over the superheroes to keep Monarch distracted and prevent him from realizing the vengeance she was about to enact on him by manipulating Nathalie into delivering her all of his secrets.

As Timestalker, she showed herself to be stealthy and determined to discover and record her enemies' secrets like Gabriel's wish and accomplices and Ladybug's secret identity in her notebook to keep to herself after losing her memory following her deakumatization, also, she wanted to steal the other Miraculouses but refrained from doing so to avoid being discovered, and when confronted by Chronobug, she cleverly hid herself in places where Chronobug couldn't appear without exposing herself and changing the timeline and remained unfazed when Chronobug briefly captured her with her Yo-Yo, knowing the heroine couldn't deakumatize her, albeit she became shocked when Chronobug revealed she was aware of Timestalker being the new Butterfly holder. Also, she refrained from speaking in this akumatized form to prevent Chronobug and Bunnyx from discovering her identity or gender.

As Spectral Looter, she was determined to steal all the Miraculouses in Marinette's room and remained unfazed when confronted by Chronobug, knowing the heroine couldn't stop her or even attack her with her intangibility and took pleasure in taunting Chronobug for her failure before escaping with the stolen Miraculouses.

Powers and Abilities[]

As a Civilian[]

Lila is a highly crafty and cunning liar. She skillfully uses her lies to manipulate people into doing what she wants. When her deceitful tactics fail, she often resorts to making others feel pity for her in an effort to gain emotional leverage. Even Tikki, a being who has existed since the universe's creation, believes that Lila is the best liar she has ever encountered. Lila's mastery of lying and manipulation is so profound that she can maintain three different lives by weaving an intricate web of falsehoods, allowing her to make any of her personas vanish for extended periods and reappear without raising suspicion. The only people who see right through her deception are Marinette (Ladybug), Adrien (Cat Noir), Tikki, and Plagg.

She was shown to be very stealthy, like taking the test answers without anyone noticing and placing them in Marinette's bag. She also managed to return home from the Eiffel Tower unseen during the events of Heroes' Day. Also, she was able to sneak into the Agreste mansion and steal the Butterfly Miraculous unnoticed. Lila possesses a sort of indomitable will due to her undying hatred for Ladybug and will do anything to bring her down. She seems to be able to know the sign language used by the mute and the deaf as we see her communicating with one of her three mothers who is just that.

Lila is also a master of disguise, as she was able to disguise herself as her many personas and also as a Le Grand Paris waitress and infiltrate without being recognized. She is capable of making herself stand out and then be able to blend in with great ease.

As Chrysalis[]

As Chrysalis, she has enhanced skills such as speed, agility, strength, and near-invulnerability. She also has a cane which she can use to fight or to store akumas inside of it.

Her superpower is akumatization, the ability to charge butterflies with dark energy, transforming them into Ultrakumas and then sending them out to possess an object of someone vulnerable and transform them into supervillains, granting them a wide variety of superpowers or special abilities. However, in order to akumatize them, she needs their consent. If they refuse, then she can't akumatize them or the akumatization is reversed (in case they have already been akumatized). She can akumatize herself as well.

She can also telepathically communicate with her akumatized supervillains through a purple butterfly-shaped outline that appeared in front of her and the akumatized supervillains' faces. Through the akumatized villain's perception, they communicate in a purple-colored mindscape, where Chrysalis presents herself with a disguised avatar in the form of a purple glowing silhouette with a simplified butterfly mask and speaking with a mix of voices. The conversations between them can happen at the speed of thought.

However, her disguised voices can revert back to her real one if she becomes scared, as shown in "El Toro De Piedra", when she accidentally enrages Raúl Bruel during his akumatization.

Unlike Hawk Moth, Chrysalis has been able to evolve her powers to conjure butterfly-shaped energy beams called antikumas which she is able to cast through the light mask of her akumatized supervillains against other Miraculous holders. When they hit them, the transmission of powers between holder and Miraculous is severed, leaving them powerless and only with their suit. However, she needs her akumatized villain to look directly at the holders and the effects are temporary and can be reversed by detransforming.

As Volpina[]

Like Rena Rouge, Volpina could play a tune on her flute with an idea in mind to create a glowing orange ball of energy. She could throw the orange ball of energy anywhere with her flute and create whatever incredibly lifelike illusion that she wanted. However, the illusions were intangible, and when touched would disappear in an orange cloud. Volpina's flute was long enough to wield as a staff.

As Chameleon[]

Chameleon could transform into another person after kissing them, causing her victims to fall asleep. As long she remained in their form, her victims remained asleep. Once Chameleon took another form, they woke up. When turned into a Miraculous holder, Lila could use their powers, like when she fought Ladybug in Cat Noir's form and her power allowed her to utilize the Cataclysm.

Even if she couldn't take the form of a Miraculous holder, she was very agile, as shown while pretending to be Adrien she was able to jump up the Eiffel Tower.

As Hoaxer[]

Hoaxer possessed the ability to enter the Alliance rings system and pop in and out of the real world as she pleased. She also possessed the ability to, aided by the power of the Fox Miraculous, create highly elaborated and life-like illusions that appear on the holographic screen of any Alliance, and anyone who looked at them would get mind-controlled and believe whatever she said to be the truth even if it was highly illogical and would do her bidding as she ordered them to, as when she ordered the civilians to go after Marinette after showing them an illusion of her secretly being Monarch. The Alliance tracking system enabled Hoaxer to locate anyone wearing an Alliance and alerted her if someone under her control had their Alliance removed. She could also appear in the real world and the Alliance ring system simultaneously.

However, her control over someone was canceled if the person's Alliance ring was removed or destroyed, such as when both Roger and Alya were freed when the heroes removed their Alliances. Her mind-control powers also did not work on anyone not wearing an Alliance, even if they saw her on someone else's ring, as Ivan, Mylene, and Adrien were not affected despite seeing her on their friends' Alliance rings.

As Timestalker[]

Timestalker could travel through time using a smartwatch on her wrist. Thanks to that ability, she was able to spy on past moments. However, because she needed to activate her smartwatch manually to travel, she would become vulnerable in close combat, especially against adversaries who could travel through time as well. To counter this weakness, Timestalker used her smartphone (her akumatized object) to act as a failsafe to bring her back to a moment soon after she left, while also having spare smartwatches in case the one she was wearing was taken, broken, or destroyed. She proved to be very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and was able to best Chronobug on multiple occasions.

As Spectral Looter[]

Spectral Looter shared the same abilities as Troublemaker, allowing her to phase through solid matter and become intangible to any attack, much like a real ghost. However, unlike Troublemaker, she could float and use her fingertips to make anything she touched intangible as well. This unique ability enabled her to steal anything she desired, even if those objects were being worn by someone else.

History[]

Season 1[]

Volpina[]

Volpina under Hawk Moth's influence

Lila makes her debut in the finale, in which everybody believed she had an amazing life, or so she said. She tried to get close to Adrien with her lies, and even stole the book belonging to Gabriel Agreste away from him. Then she bought a knock-off of the Fox Miraculous in order to trick him into thinking she was a superhero, and a descendant of a Fox Miraculous holder named Volpina. But after Ladybug scolds her for lying, Lila leaves in tears. She admits her contempt for Ladybug when looking at a picture of her on a stand post.

Hawk Moth akumatizes her into Volpina, and gives her the power to create illusions. She uses this to her advantage to get rid of Cat Noir and then "trap" Ladybug. But Ladybug immediately realized she was akumatized from the way she acted. After seeing the illusion of the building going down vanish, she realized Volpina's power. She came and entered Adrien's bedroom and uses her look to try and win him over. But Ladybug comes in and foils her attempt. Ladybug and Cat Noir soon encounter her at the Eiffel tower. Ladybug uses her Lucky Charm (a Popsicle) to make the real Volpina flinch. Then Cat Noir used Cataclysm to trap her. After Ladybug purifies the akuma and restores everything to normal, she tries apologizing to Lila, but Lila rejected it, saying Ladybug was right: they would never be friends.

Season 2[]

Catalyst[]

She appears in the Heroes' Day TV special, when she lies about going on trip with her family and going to Prince Ali's palace, when in fact she is in her room. It is revealed she has a busy mother who is also gullible to her lies. When Gabriel honors Ladybug with his gratitude for her saving him, he openly calls Volpina an imitation of a superhero, furthering her resentment towards Ladybug. Hawk Moth reakumatizes her into Volpina so she could create an illusion of Ladybug akumatized and defeating Cat Noir, much to her delight. Her akuma is recalled, and she opens her eyes, smiling evilly.

Mayura[]

She appears in the second part, once again as Volpina. This time, she is re-akumatized by Scarlet Moth (Hawk Moth's enhanced form). But after Scarlet Moth is defeated, her akumatization becomes undone. She is later seen glaring at Marinette and her group of friends at a picnic.

Season 3[]

Chameleon[]

Lila appears in the premiere "Chameleon", and gets to sit next to Adrien after lying about having a hearing problem. When Marinette objected to this, Adrien offered to sit in the back. Lila emotionally manipulated everyone to turn against her, forcing Marinette to sit in the back. At lunch, she lied about her wrist hurting and Marinette tried to expose her, but Lila covered up for her revelation immediately, once again turning her classmates against Marinette; but Lila told them not to be hard on her as she was giving her a napkin. She later follows Marinette into the bathroom and discovers that she was jealous of her sitting next to Adrien and tries to get her on her side, only to discover that Marinette knew that she was lying. At this, she threatens Marinette.

After her confrontation, she runs into Adrien and tries to manipulate him, but he also knew she was lying. She gets akumatized into Chameleon, a super-villain who can shape-shift with kissing. She uses her power on Adrien, putting him to sleep and transforms into him. Then she starts trying to ruin his reputation and lures Ladybug to the Eiffel Tower. When Ladybug finds out she is not Adrien, she attempts to kiss her, but Ladybug avoids her, so Chameleon goes to kiss a boy named Quentin. She almost gets Ladybug, but kisses Cat Noir instead and gains his power.

She tries to take his miraculous, but Ladybug stops her. Then she decides to go after her get her miraculous first.

Miraculous New York[]

Lila helped make a sockpuppet movie and smiles when hearing Miss Bustier will have a baby. While hearing Adrien say he won't be able to go on the field trip, she tells him she is stuck in Paris because of a charity event she's throwing and tells him she can see him if he wants her to. But Marinette objects to this, and (out of force) tells everyone that Adrien is their friend and that they must go see his father, much to Lila's annoyance. She is not seen again afterwards.

Season 4[]

Guiltrip[]

Lila is seen sitting in her chair as the rest of the class rushes to the bathroom to check on Juleka.

Rocketear[]

Lila is sitting in Miss Bustier's classroom.

Wishmaker[]

Lila is sitting in Miss Bustier's classroom when Mr. Damoclès tells the class about the [Paris Expo.

Qilin[]

Lila is among the people taking part in Sabine's art class.

Ephemeral[]

Lila is sitting in Miss Bustier's classroom in the alternative timeline where Marinette and Adrien are together.

Penalteam[]

Lila avoids taking part in the class soccer game because she claims she's hurt. At the end of the episode, Lila forms an alliance with Chloé because of their strong dislike towards Marinette.

Risk[]

Lila is set up to travel along with Adrien on a trip all around the world for the Agreste Company commercial. She attempts to lie to Adrien to make him impressed, which doesn't work out. But as Adrien speaks out against his father because he doesn't want to go and gets silenced, Lila pulls Adrien into a hug in order to comfort him. Later at the school, their class is shown playing a game in gym, which Lila claims she is too hurt to participate in. But as she sees Adrien and Marinette getting talking to each other, Lila becomes jealous and attempts to interrupt, but she is stopped and sat down by Armand D'Argencourt. After some time has passed, Lila gets up again and manages to finally interrupt them to announce to the class that her and Adrien should be leaving to pack for their trip. Once they arrive to the limousine, Marinette tries to talk to Adrien one last time but Lila then signals a nod to Chloé who then shoves Marinette out of the way to say goodbye. Later, she is seen hugging her second mother at the train station before leaving with Nathalie and Félix, who (unbeknownst to either of them) disguised himself as Adrien.

Strikeback[]

She smiles after noticing Nathalie coughing at the door.

Season 5[]

Evolution[]

Lila asks Nathalie coughing while they're at the Startrain and asks if she is okay. She then helps her out, possibly having overheard the latter's argument with Gabriel.

Multiplication[]

Lila is seen scanning as an avatar for the production of the Alliance Ring.

Illusion[]

Lila finds out that Nino is forming a Resistance and has created a plan to make Gabriel angry about how Monarch is able to give the Miraculous superpowers to their victims without the Miraculous itself, by staging an akumatization. She informs Gabriel that Adrien's friends are planning to get him angry to find out how Monarch gives the villains powers.

Perfection[]

Lila plan a questionnaire for Kagami about Marinette not being her friend and it works at first as she is seen cutting images of Marinette and being Chloe's friend. However Ladybug manages to counter her move after that Kagami is now friends with her.

Protection[]

Lila manipulates Kagami into thinking she is her best friend and that Marinette is not her friend. In a call, she asks Gabriel via call if he knows Kagami, which he does. She tells him that Monarch could akumatize Kagami. After the call, she lies to Kagami, saying it was just her mother calling her because she forgot where she put something. She notices Kagami's despair, and "tries" to cheer her up, but ultimately does nothing to prevent her akumatization into Riposte Prime. Later, Kagami finds out from Adrien and Marinette that Lila has been lying to her about Marinette, so she tells Lila that she is not her puppet and she is willing to be friends with Lila only if she does not use her against Marinette. Lila and Kagami hug, but the former can be seen smirking.

Emotion[]

Lila once again hangs out with Kagami. When Kagami is surprised Lila does not say anything mean about Marinette, she tells Kagami that Marinette is the one who hates her for no reason. She calls Gabriel to ask him why he did not invite her to the Diamonds' Dance, despite her being the face of the Gabriel brand. Gabriel says that his bottles of perfume are also part of his brand, but were not invited. At the end of the episode, Lila is determined to show Gabriel that she is not just a bottle of perfume, revealing that she is aware that he is secretly Monarch.

Revelation[]

Lila is first seen calling her second mother in her room, lying to her that she is busy saving a baby rhino in the savannah, and that there is a bad connection, so she cannot turn on her camera. She hangs up when her third mother comes into the room, who is revealed to be deaf, and they communicate with each other in sign language. Her mother asks who Lila was talking to, to which Lila replies that it was just her agent. She later tells her that she has to go to shoot a new movie in Mexico. Her mother is surprised, as they have just reunited. At school, she plans to become the class representative and let Chloé be her deputy to take down Marinette.

Confrontation[]

Lila first appears in a flashback which explains that, according to her study options form, she wants to resolve every political conflict on the planet in order to establish world peace and solve the environmental crisis, but this is a lie. She tells Marinette that she could have added that she wants to become her best friend, but that would've also been a lie. Later, Marinette hands over the forms to Lila and Chloé, who vow to respectfully represent Marinette during the rep meeting. However, in reality, the two are planning to destroy everyone's study options forms, and use Sabrina to forge new ones with incompatible career paths, and make everyone think Marinette did it.

During the teacher's rep meeting, Lila presents the fake forms, saying that Alya wants to be an optician and Juleka wants to repeat the year. When the forms are returned to their owners, everyone is outraged that the career paths listed on their forms are not what they want to be, and Juleka is so upset that she gets akumatized into Reflekta once again.

Following Reflekta's de-akumatization, everyone feels sorry for Juleka, who is still upset, with Lila also pretending to feel sorry for her. Alya asks Lila what happened during the teacher's rep meeting. She says she doesn't know, and that all she did was defend the forms Marinette had given her and Chloé. Lila then tells everyone that Marinette was the one who forged the forms as revenge for voting Lila to be the class representative. Since Marinette's sheet says that she is going to a high school where she specializes in fashion, just like she requested, Chloé triumphs that this is proof that Marinette did it, only for Lila to kick her foot to shut her up. Sabrina admits that she forged the forms, so Lila tries to have her say Marinette forced her to do it, only for Sabrina to reveal that Chloé and Lila did. Sabrina runs out of the classroom crying, and Lila and Chloé follow her into the temporary bathroom. Chloé threatens Sabrina to hand over the supposed proof that Lila and Chloé forced her, or she will have her dad fire hers. Lila tells Chloé to calm down, brags about the things she lied about and everyone believed, and threatens Sabrina that she will have her own father lock her in jail if she does not hand over the proof. However, Sabrina reveals that everyone has been watching the whole time, as Lila has exposed herself to them.

After Denis Damoclès expels Chloé and Lila from school, the former calls her father to force Mr. Damoclès to keep the two girls at school. As Mr. Damoclès is about to get akumatized, everyone cheers for him that he can resist, and Miss Bustier] gets Lila and Chloé out of the principal's office. Lila leaves school and ignores Chloé's orders for her to come back.

In the post-end card scene, Lila calls Chloé that the war is only just starting. She takes off what is revealed to be her wig and throws it in a trash can, abandoning her identity and becoming Cerise Bianca, who is supposedly a movie star and student at Collège Paul Bert. As Cerise Bianca, she still lies to her other classmates.

Collusion[]

Cerise is now often using her secret lair at the Catacombs, and she communicates with Chloé through an earpiece and orders her to play loud music in order to disrupt the class and later pretend that Marinette slapped her, landing Marinette and Chloé in the principal's office. Cerise has Chloé get Marinette expelled, but Miss Bustier tries to reason with Chloé with her birthday gift from Zombizou. Chloé decides to ask Olga Mendeleiev, the new principal, to dismiss Caline and expel Marinette, to which Cerise removes the pictures of Marinette and Miss Bustier from her investigation board and smirks that her plan has worked.

Cerise then tells Chloé to go to Le Grand Paris] to force her father to either exile Miss Bustier from Paris or land her in prison, as well as to forbid her classmates from attending high school. Meanwhile, Cerise disguises herself as a waitress to sneak into the hotel and spy on Gabriel and André as they talk about their past. Later, Cerise reminds Chloé that, now that André "confessed" to having abused his power this whole time, he will not be the mayor of Paris for much longer.

Revolution[]

Cerise calls Chloé and tells her that she is great and is taking an interest in Tomoe's laptop. Then at Collège Françoise Dupont, she tells her to hold off the truth about Adrien's departure. She also advises Chloé to accept Monarch's offer on being akumatized. At the election meeting at the Louvre, Cerise is watching from afar, continuing to guide Chloé. She sees Gabriel and Tomoe fleeing into their vehicles after seeing Ladybug and Cat Noir unlock their adult powers.

However, after Ladybug, Cat Noir, and The Resistance defeat Chloé and she leaves with her mother Audrey for London, Cerise abandons and betrayed Chloé to steal Tomoe's laptop which she dropped earlier. This shows that Cerise didn't want her friendship at all, she only used Chloé as a pawn for her own plan to steal the Butterfly Miraculous. She then returns to her lair, and begins to use a screwdriver to unlock the computer she just stole.

Re-creation[]

Aside from Bunnyx, Cerise is the only known one who hasn't been affected by the nightmare dust of Nightormentor. She is first seen in the episode watching Alec Cataldi's show, Live Your Childhood Dream, while hacking into Tomoe's laptop impassive. The show is quickly interrupted by Alec breaking down over a nightmare, which Cerise smirks at, followed by a news report about supervillains called the Miraculized emerging across the world in search of Ladybug and Cat Noir, believing that they have kidnapped Adrien and Kagami—the result of Gabriel and Tomoe's endgame plan to defeat Ladybug. She switches off her phone, puts it down, and puts on blue contact lenses and a bob cut wig and glasses and changes her clothes in order to create a new disguise, and takes Tomoe's laptop and gets on her bike to ride to the Agreste mansion.

After arriving at the mansion, Cerise hacks into the security system in order to get inside. She witnesses the final battle between Bug Noire and Monarch through the massive hole caused by the former's Cataclysm. In the aftermath, Gabriel sacrificed his life and Marinette was unable to look for the Butterfly Miraculous.

At the end of the episode, in September, Cerise calls Mr. Damoclès with a new identity to register at the new school Mayor Bustier opened up and he agrees. After the call ends, it is revealed that sometime after the final battle, Cerise retrieved the Butterfly Miraculous awhile ago. She remarks that she looks forward to seeing Marinette again, then after putting on the Butterfly Miraculous on her romper's chest/her blouse, she witnesses a ball of lightning and electricity in her lair. She turns around, realizing something was wrong, and witnesses a mysterious figure. She panics as the screen cuts to black, leaving her ultimate fate unknown.

Season 6[]

Climatiqueen[]

when Aurore becomes distressed over losing a contest hosted by Chloé on her channel on an app that everyone is using, Cerise Akumatizes her into Climatiqueen by promising to give her the power to make other people adore her so she can gain followers. During Climatiqueen's fight with Ladybug and Cat Noir, she discovers she won the contest, prompting Ladybug to try to tell her to reject the Ultrakuma. However, this causes Chrysalis to convince Climatiqueen to continue to use her powers to gain more hearts on all social media and to bring her Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous in exchange. When Climatiqueen is defeated, Cerise is seen in her lair while writing in a journal while seemingly looking forward to the next Akumatization.

The Illustrhater[]

Cerise is seen writing notes in one of her journals in her lair, where she also keeps Nooroo paralyzed and unable to speak while she's untransformed. Later, at a cafe, Cerise shoos away Maya, a young girl who just wanted to show off her drawings, to later help her become her victim for Akumatization, transforming her into the Illustrhater by infecting her sketchpad with an Ultrakuma, allowing Maya to bring her drawings to life to cause havoc in Paris. When Illustrhater is confronted by Ladybug, Cat Noir, Rena Rouge, and Carapace wanting to learn more about the new Butterfly Miraculous holder, Chrysalis reminds her of the threat if she betrays her, forcing the four Miraculous heroes to find some way to lure Illustrhater to them. Using her Lucky Charm of a case for drawing and coloring materials, Ladybug has Carapace fill it up for her, then, with Rena's help, using Mirage, makes it look as if she can make even better artwork than Illustrhater. Despite Chrysalis' warnings, Illustrhater falls for it, allowing Ladybug to disarm her so Cat Noir can destroy the sketchpad with Cataclysm, reverting Maya back to normal, before Ladybug fixes the damage with Miraculous Ladybug after catching and purifying the Ultrakuma. Not at all discouraged by the defeat, Cerise continues to remain undiscovered as she plans her next move while leaving the cafe, and gloating to herself that Ladybug, and her team will never know her true identity, or about "them", and that she is both everywhere and nowhere, like a chameleon.

Sublimation[]

Cerise, or a male figure allied with her, is at the Olympic Stadium taking notes when a young Belgian girl with prosthetic legs named Sublime is preparing for a trial run to earn a sponsor in her attempts to reach the World Championships. However, circumstances thanks to Marinette, both as herself and as Ladybug, cause Sublime to fail her trial run, and bust her prosthetic legs as well, leaving Ladybug horrified of what she's done to Sublime because of her own paranoia. Sublime's mother, Caroline, becomes so upset, especially after Bob Roth refuses to sponsor Sublime after what happened, that Cerise takes advantage of her distress and Akumatizes her as Sublimation to take revenge. During as Ladybug and Cat Noir fight her, when Sublimation's powers prove ineffective to Ladybug and Cat Noir due to already being at the best of their abilities, Cerise, as Chrysalis, retaliates with sending Antikumas through a shocked Sublimation to try and de-power them. She hits Cat Noir, but Ladybug manages to disarm Sublimation of her Akumatized object, destroy it, and purify the Ultrakuma released, before later using her Miraculous Ladybug to fix both the destroyed medal and Sublime's prosthetic legs as atonement for having caused all this in the first place. Having witnessed it, Cerise, or her accomplice, departs without anyone seeing them leave the stadium, maintaining Cerise's anonymous status as the new Butterfly Miraculous holder.

Daddycop[]

Chrysalis attempts to Akumatize Sabrina after sensing her heartbreak and despair after having her hopes of having a fresh start with Marinette and the other girls crushed unintentionally by Marinette, but Chrysalis barely gets a chance to talk to Sabrina before, remembering what Ladybug taught her, Sabrina rejects the Ultrakuma, refusing to be corrupted by it. Not giving up, Chrysalis instead has her Ultrakuma infect Sabrina's father, Paris Police Lieutenant Roger Raincomprix's, patrol cruiser, playing off his love for his daughter and anger over her heartbreak with being apparently rejected by Marinette and the other girls to corrupt him into Daddycop, using his lasers to brainwash the people of Paris into zombies who only wish to give Sabrina their love, with his first victims being Alya, Juleka, Rose, Mylene, Kagami, and Zoe. When Cat Noir attempts to distract him as Astrocat, Chrysalis has Daddycop face Astrocat so she can hit him with an Antikuma, forcing Astrocat to revert back to Cat Noir due to his powers being nullified, but is saved by Ladybug, who becomes Cosmobug to keep Daddycop distracted. In the meantime, Sabrina, having been encouraged by Ladybug to keep the Dog Miraculous and Barkk and become Miss Hound again, summons Max/Pegasus for assistance, and together with Cat Noir and Cosmobug, they manage to lure Daddycop into a trap, allowing Miss Hound to tag his cruiser with Fetch, recall it, and Cat Noir destroys it with Cataclysm, reducing it to a rusted wreck and freeing the Ultrakuma. Cosmobug rescues the restored Lt. Raincomprix before turning back into Ladybug and purifying the Ultrakuma, then using her Miraculous Ladybug to restore everyone affected by Daddycop's lasers back to normal, along with restoring Roger's cruiser, and then gifting Roger a new Magical Charm to protect him.

Trivia[]

  • She is more evil than Chloe.
  • She was willingly akumatized by Hawk Moth at least twice.
  • She makes cameo appearances in the second season that were not meant to happen.
  • Volpina is similar to the word volpe, which is Italian for "fox". The suffix "-ina" indicates "small" and is often used in feminine names among friends, as a form of nickname or pet name. Roughly translated, "Volpina" means "Vixen" or "Small Fox" in Italian.
  • Volpina's abilities are based on the Fox Miraculous holder and Rena Rouge's powers, similar to how Copycat has Cat Noir's powers, Antibug has powers similar to Ladybug's and Queen Wasp is similar to Queen Bee.
  • She is the first akumatized villain to have amplified Miraculous superpowers, as it's revealed in "Timetagger" that prolonged and multiply use of said powers only occur when a holder grows into an adult.
  • She is the the third akumatized villain who doesn't appear in the theme song or its animatic in Season 1. The others are Animan and Kung Food, both of whom appear in the animatic.
  • Lila is the first previously akumatized victim to be reakumatized with the same supervillain identity but with a different akuma.
    • Also, the akuma which affects her is the first seen akuma to be de-evilized by Hawk Moth himself and removed onscreen.
    • That happened again to André and Audrey Bourgeois in "Heart Hunter".
  • Lila's smirk after being de-evilized in "Catalyst" implies she may have been the first person to be willingly akumatized other than Hawk Moth himself and his assistant Nathalie.
  • Lila is the third person to be akumatized voluntarily, but the first to direct the akuma to an object.
    • She is also the first akumatized victim to introduce herself to Hawk Moth instead of the other way around.
  • Despite her third akumatization being caused by Scarlet Moth, she didn't have a red-colored appearance.
    • According to Thomas, this was an animation error.
  • Every time Lila gets deakumatized, she is on the Eiffel Tower.
  • Volpina appears another time in "Gamer 2.0" for Gamer's powers.
  • A statue of Volpina appears in the Musée Grévin in "The Puppeteer 2".
  • Lila's akumatization into Chameleon marks the first time a villain doesn't change their appearance upon akumatization; however, this quickly changes after she uses her powers on Adrien.
  • Her powers as Volpina, Hoaxer, and Chameleon have to do with lies and deception.
    • Her name and abilities as the latter may also be based on the Spider-Man villain Chameleon.
  • Despite her claims of being a descendant of a fox-themed superheroine being false, Lila physically looks like the holder of the Fox Miraculous illustrated in the Miraculous spellbook.
  • Lila tells several stories assumed to be lies:
    • She knows Prince Ali and flew with him in his private jet.
    • Jagged Stone wrote a song about Lila.
    • Lila knows all of the Hollywood directors. She promised she'd introduce Nino to Steven Besielberg.
    • Ladybug saved Lila's life, and the two of them are best friends.
    • Lila loves superheroes.
    • Lila claims to be a descendant of a Fox Miraculous holder seen in the Miraculous spellbook, calling her Volpina. According to Lila, Volpina is "one of the most important superheroes, more powerful and celebrated than Ladybug." Lila also claimed her grandmother gave her the Fox Miraculous, showing a simular looking trinket she bought in a giftshop after seeing the miraculous in the Grimoire.
    • In the French dubbed version, she tells Alya that her parents are diplomats and that she has traveled a lot.
    • As Volpina, most of the things she says are lies. For example, she tells Adrien and all of Paris that she is a true superhero.
    • She has a close relationship with prince Ali.
    • She saved Jagged Stone's kitten.
    • She knows a famous manga artist.
  • Lila was offered redemption several times but she rejected any of the offers. This can be seen in "Chameleon", where Adrien gave her a friendly advice of not lying to him and to be honest, and she tried to ruin his reputation as the titular Akumatized villain. Later in the episode, Ladybug also gave her a friendly advice that people will like her if she will be honest after the former was de-Akumatized, but Lila rejected this offer as well while faking a truce with Ladybug.
  • As Chameleon, Lila only kissed boys (more specifically, Adrien, then Quentin and then Adrien again, but as Cat Noir). She probably did this so that Ladybug would not suspect her being Lila (meaning that if she would have kissed a girl instead of a boy, Ladybug would have suspected her being Lila).
  • Based on Lila's behavior and mindset, she has a classic case of anti-social personality disorder, a mental disorder characterized when a person is unable to feel empathy to others and only understands emotions that affect themselves, such as gratification.
  • In "Oni-Chan", it is heavily implied that the reason Lila is so attention-seeking is that her parents, particularly her mother, are constantly out of her life because of their jobs, though this has yet to be stated as fact.
  • The way Volpina uses her flute as a weapon is reminiscent of how Melodie, a deleted character, appeared to have done the same.
  • Volpina is likely inspired by the fox spirit of East Asian lore, which uses illusions to fool people and occasionally takes the form of an attractive young woman.
  • Lila's name means "beauty", and her surname Rossi means "red" in Italian.
  • It is interesting to note that while Chloé becomes progressively more heroic over the course of Season 2, especially during the "Queen's Battle" trilogy, Lila, on the other hand, becomes much more antagonistic and dangerous than Chloé over the course of Seasons 2 and 3. Despite that, Chloé becomes a villain again in the two-part Season 3 finale due to being manipulated by Hawk Moth.
  • Also, despite Chloé being the cause of akumatization of many of the girls in the class (even Sabrina, her best friend, but excluding Marinette and Lila), her actions are merely considered as standard bullying. And despite Lila having fewer times where she was the cause of akumatization, she did much worse than Chloé.
  • The surname Rossi means "red" in Italian.
    • Her surname also reference to Valentino Rossi. A Motogp rider with 9 world championships since his debut back in 1996.
  • Lila is the only known person, besides Hawk Moth and Mayura, that sees Ladybug as her enemy even while not akumatized.
