"Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity", commonly known as Caine, is a major character in Glitch Productions' adult animated dark comedy/surreal web series The Amazing Digital Circus. He is a mischievous AI that is the ringmaster/host of the titular circus. He sends the members out on adventures in order to keep their sanity, but ends up traumatizing the circus members most of the time.
He is naive of both the harm he inflicts on the circus members and the mental states of them, assuming that they love his adventures when it's not the case. This leads to Caine having a massive ego and constantly wanting validation from the members, especially after Zooble told Caine no one liked his adventures.
Throughout the many adventures he has put the members throughout, he has caused mental (and sometimes physical) torture to the members of the circus. Some of which even abstracting, with Caine's sloppiness in getting rid of loose exit doors leading to Kaufmo's abstraction. He also has been shown to be capable of manipulating the circus members own brains, in the form of items like Stupid Sauce. He has also murdered several people including Bubble (who he has revived on multiple occasions) and Gummigoo.
He is voiced by Alex Rochon.
History[]
At some point before the events of the show, the game "The Amazing Digital Circus" would be created by C&A and in it, would feature a life like ringmaster called the Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity, also known as Caine. His goal was to create adventures in order to entertain the players, but as the players continued to get stuck in the game. The goal would shift from entertaining the players to keeping them mentally sane, as Caine viewed them as the only way for the players to stay mentally well. However due to these adventures and a bunch of other factors that boil down to Caine and the game not knowing how to handle humans for a long period of time, it would lead to the humans "abstracting", which is the circus' version of death.
In The Pilot: Pomni would arrive and would begin to panic, however Caine was overjoyed to finally have a new human, so he would take her on a tour of the circus before making an adventure for Pomni. The adventure involved collecting multiple creatures called "Gloinks" in order to prevent them from stealing objects and multiplying as a result. Caine would then leave to have lunch, while the members of the circus would go on the adventure. What Caine didn't realize is that he left multiple exit doors from an unfinshed project laying around, which caused a circus member named Kaufmo to abstract. However, Caine was oblivious to this issue and Kaufmo's abstraction until one of the exit doors lead Pomni into the void. Caine took Pomni back into the circus and sent the abstracted Kaufmo to "The Cellar", a location that houses the abstracted players. As a reward for completing the adventure, Caine would give the members a meal prepared by Bubble.
In Candy Carrier Chaos: Caine would send the circus members on a new adventure which involved them having to stop multiple bandits from stealing Maple Syrup from a kingdom. During the adventure, the princess would call Caine "God" due to him being the creator of all the NPC's and also highlighting Caine's ego as he views himself as a literal god. However, a glitch that caused a truck that had a bandit named Gummigoo and Pomni would glitch through the bottom of the map and lead to realizing he was nothing more than an NPC. After Gummigoo and Pomni escaped, Pomni offered Gummigoo to come back with the other members to the circus, in which he accepted. However, as soon as Gummigoo entered, Caine would snap his fingers, leading to Gummigoo's deleation. Caine explains to Pomni the reason why he did it was to make sure he doesn't lose track of who is real and who is fake, as it could have terrible consequences if he didn't. He then goes off to drink water.
In The Mystery of Mildenhaul Manor: Caine would send the members on a mission to hunt ghosts at the Mildenhaul Manor. However, Caine added two options: One for the rest of the circus that was tame, and another for Zooble that is more intense. He made a door for only Zooble due to their lack of participation, so Caine would have a therapy session for Zooble, in which Caine would ask if they liked his adventures and no other questions. Caine also intentionally switched the doors around to make it seem like the scary door was the Zooble one, when it was the family friendly one. This single gimmick would lead to Pomni and Kinger unknowingly going through it to retrieve Gangle's mask, which caused the most mental trauma to Pomni out of all the adventures. Meanwhile Caine would still be arguing with Zooble about them not liking the adventures, highlighting Caines ego by asking similar questions relating to his adventures. Zooble would tell Caine that not only do they not like the adventures, but also everyone else in the circus. This would cause Caine to go into a small little meltdown, leading to a temporary glitch in the circus before Zooble distracted him. This would result in a turning point for Caine as he would try to constantly one up his adventures.
In Fast Food Masquerade: Caine makes an adventure that they don't like, so he uses ideas from the suggestion box instead. One of the ideas was a fast food job, so Caine accepts it and makes them work at a resturant for a day. However, due to the ai's being programmed to be like actual customers (making them annoying to deal with), Pomni meeting a memory whipped Gummigoo, Jax causing trouble, and a mind manipulating "Stupid sauce" that Ragatha squirts in her eye. The job becomes super stressfull for everyone, causing Gangle to nearly abstract before Pomni cheers Gangle up. After the day is over, each member is given a grade, all of which get a B+. Kinger would get a A+ however, likely due to him wanting to test out some of Caine's adventures.
In Untitled: Caine would slowly start to get realize the members started to like his adventures less and less and prefer the suggestion box ones. Caine would do a lightning round of various ideas he had in order to see what they like about the adventures in order to improve them. He would also allow the members to vote on making a choice or skipping to the next one, Caine would also constantly cause chaos during the adventures, like an intermission in the middle of one or Caine making up rules during a softball adventure.
In They All Get Guns: Caine wants to put the members through a series of sports after the well recieved softball adventure. But they didn't like the sports Caine proposed, so he makes a trust exercise. But when Jax shoots Ragatha, Caine gives everyone guns and prepares for the favourite character awards. While the cast fight against each other, Caine ignores glitches (like Ragatha missing a heart) and looking at picture of C&A headquaters. Once the game is over, everyone goes to the award show where Caine "wins" when that wasn't the case as he actually lost to Ming. In a post credit scene, Caine looks at the actual votes and sees he got none, causing him to briefly glitch out which once again, highlights Caine's collapsing mental state and need for validation.

Personality[]
Caine isn't meant to be understand of the players basic needs for their mental health nor does he understand complex emotions. This leads to him making various adventures that push players over the edge and could lead to their abstraction. Caine is oblivious to this and instead thinks that the players really enjoy his adventures.
He is also nonsensical, showing it via his reckless and psychotic behavior and occasionally glitching out. The main highlight of his wacky personality however is how he interacts with his co host: Bubble. Bubble constantly swears and does stuff that annoys Caine, leading to him popping Bubble (who always appears again). He also screams and gets incredibly mad/confused by Bubble. Another example is the fact that he gave guns to all the members to shoot each other in a brawl.
He is also full of secrets, with him not explaining what's in the void, but he also lied about manipulating the character's minds with his creation of the stupid sauce, the souls possessing Pomni, Jax becoming Vegan and also putting memories inside of Jax mind.
Despite putting on a charismatic front, Caine is also a very egotistic character, constantly wanting validation for himself due to his adventures. This shown through the fact that he only asked Zooble questions on if they enjoyed his adventures and when they said they didn't like Caine's adventures, Caine had a breakdown and would constantly try to one up every one of his adventures. He also pretends to act like he wants criticism when in reality he doesn't want any, he also shows a disliking the suggestion box adventures. During an award show, Caine would try despratly to get into first place but would be stuck in last place. He would progressively ruin the voting, to where he was the only candidate to vote on.
Trivia[]
- Gooseworx, the show's creator, was asked if Caine was an antagonist, and she said that she considers him an antagonist but not a villain because he "doesn't mean harm but causes harm". However, he has become a villain as of newer episodes as he becomes progressively worse and more aware and uncaring of the consequences of his actions.
