Biography[]
Bambi "Buck" Hughes was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1968 to Gabriel and Martha Hughes. Later on, he joined the Australian armed forces in his early twenties. His commanders quickly discovered his perverse addiction to inflicting pain and dismissed him. He started working as a mercenary and travelled across the world, while doing various contracts. He discovered the Rook Islands and eventually met Hoyt Volker and Vaas Montenegro. Buck then came under Hoyt's employ and would kill for him when called upon.
Far Cry 3[]
Buck recently bought Keith Ramsay from Hoyt, keeping him in the basement of his house and using him as a sex slave. Buck would continue to torment Keith while he was his sex slave, and also did so while Jason was finding the Silver Dragon for Hughes. Buck made a deal with Jason; if Jason finds a dagger called Silver Dragon, he can have his friend back. Buck managed to place a tracker on Jason somehow, and would follow him to the locations of where the pieces of the compass were, often greeting Brody when he entered and left the area.
After Jason finds the dagger, he receives a call from Buck, acknowledges finding the dagger and then is told by Buck to meet him in his house near Badtown. Jason gives the dagger to Buck, who in return gives him the key to the basement where Keith is being held. After reconciling with the traumatized Keith who is clearly afraid of Buck, Buck appears and reveals that he never had any intention of releasing Keith or letting Jason go. After the boss battle, Jason kills Buck by stabbing him in the chest with the Silver Dragon, ending his cruelty for good. Then Jason and Keith safely leave Buck's house and return to the caves that are under Dr. Earnhardt's Mansion, and Brody agrees to keep what happened to Keith a secret.
Trivia[]
- When Buck tells Jason that he "likes his meat rare", it possibly implies that he is also a cannibal.
- Before Jason meets Buck, he references the character Buck from Quentin Tarantino's film Kill Bill, stating "My name is Buck, and he likes to f..."
- As with all the antagonists of Far Cry 3, Jason kills Buck with a knife.
- Buck may have an accomplice named Hector since Buck speaks instructions to a Hector into his phone when Jason refuses to admit that Buck is the master, but this may have been a hoax since there is no sound coming from the other end and was possibly using the name to manipulate Jason in to continue working for him.
- Buck carries a knife and a chrome-plated pistol (possibly a 1911) in his pants, which is visible when he turns around.
- A possible idea of how Buck was able to beat Jason to his locations is that Buck already knew the location of the Ancient Chinese Dagger but lacked the compass pieces to access it. Whenever Jason found one of the pieces, Buck simply informed the pirates so they can ambush him at every location (either hoping to collect the bounty on Jason or playing both sides to get the dagger and the bounty). This interpretation explains how Buck was able to track Jason, how The Pirates got to the locations before Jason did despite not having the compass pieces, and how Buck never met Jason at the final temple exit.
- Considering the connections between Far Cry 3 and Alice in Wonderland. Buck likely represents The March Hare because the name comes from the phrase "(As) mad as a march hare" which was in reference to the violently high amorousness of male hares during mating season. In the game, Buck is a sexual sadist. On another note, Buck is also a name for a male rabbit.
