~ Stiller trying to get out of being arrested |
Brian Stiller is the secondary antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "The Boys of Sudworth Place". He is a pedophile and unwilling accomplice to his childhood friends' plan to kidnap the man who molested them as children and force him to confess to what he did to them.
He is portrayed by Garrett Boyd.
Early life[]
As a child, Stiller was arrested several times for petty offenses such as shoplifting and vandalism, until he was finally placed in Sudworth House, a rehabilitation facility for troubled youth. There, he and his friends Chad Griffith, Andrew Ford, and Matthew Jones were molested by one of the facility's volunteer mentors, prominent attorney Jack Westbrook, who considered Stiller his "favorite". Westbrook's abuse warped Stiller's mind and sexuality, and he grew up to be a child molester as well.
Over the years, Stiller remained friends with Griffith, Ford, and Jones, hiding his pathology from them. A week before the episode takes place, Jones, unable to deal with the trauma of what Westbrook did to him, committed suicide. Wanting revenge, Griffith and Ford came up with a plan to kidnap Westbrook and force him to confess what he did to them; they didn't tell Stiller what they were planning to do.
In "The Boys of Sudworth Place"[]
After Griffith and Ford kidnap Westbrook, they hold him prisoner in an abandoned gym once owned by Sudworth Place, and call Stiller to show him what they have done. Much to their surprise, however, Stiller is horrified and declares that he wants nothing to do with the plan, resulting in a fight in which Stiller accidentally kills Griffith by pushing him into the pit in which Westbrook is being held prisoner. Panicked, Stiller and Ford decide to conceal their crime by burning the gym down with Westbrook inside.
When Ford leaves to buy gasoline, Westbrook tries to manipulate Stiller into letting him go, telling him that Ford will blame him for the kidnapping and Griffith's death, and that his only chance is to let him out so they can confront Ford together. Stiller eventually agrees, and helps Westbrook out of the pit. Westbrook then tells him that they will have to kill Ford, and that Stiller should destroy his "keepsakes". Stiller claims not to know what Westbrook is talking about, but Westbrook says that he can tell that he is "special" - implicitly, that he is also a pedophile - and that, like him, Stiller has photos of his victims that he keeps to relive the experience of abusing them. Enraged, Stiller shoots Westbrook dead.
Meanwhile, the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), who are investigating Westbrook's kidnapping, discovers proof of Westbrook's crimes against children, and theorize that his kidnappers are also his victims. After finding evidence tying Westbrook to Sudworth Place, they learn of his connection to Stiller, Ford, and Griffith, and also discover Stiller's cache of child pornography. They go to the abandoned gym to arrest the kidnappers and Westbrook, only to find Westbrook and Griffith dead, and Ford holding Stiller hostage. BAU Agent Derek Morgan, who was also sexually abused as a child, manages to talk Ford down, and Ford releases Stiller. Much to Stiller's surprise, however, Morgan then arrests him for child sexual abuse and possession of child pornography.
