Boxy Boo is one of the playable Monsters and the mascot of Project: Playtime, a multiplayer spin-off of the Poppy Playtime franchise. He also makes a cameo appearance in the main game, and a major antagonist of the franchise as a whole.

Starting off as a monster toy created by Playtime CO. in 1966, he had become the very first successful experiment/monster created during the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Harley Sawyer, the creator of the initiative, assigned Boxy Boo with killing off any employees that discover the truth about the project.

Appearance

Boxy appears as a sentient jack-in-the-box monster with his main body made up of a square blue box with golden shapes adorning the sides: a square, a star, two circles, and a heart. On one of the sides, there is also a red wind-up crank. He is about 8 ft tall, has sharp teeth and claws on his hands and feet.

Personality

On the outside, Boxy is shown to be feral and unpredictable, as well as more than willing to kill anyone on a moments notice. However, deeper looks indicate that he is highly intelligent and deceptive and likes to use his ability to retract into his box body to fool & ambush his targets.

Biography

Past

Boxy Boo was the very first successful Toy created during the Bigger Bodies Initiative, a project which was initially deemed an "impossibility" by Playtime CO. staff, though according to Harley Sawyer, the creator of the initiative, Boxy Boo had beaten all odds, which lead to his creation, proving his initiative a success. From there, this opened the doors for many other experiments.

Much like the others, Boxy was highly dangerous and animalistic. However, the company took advantage of Boxy's murderous instincts & specific preference for human flesh to eliminate people who were investigating their activities.

Once such employee, Rowan Stoll, started looking into the experiments, leading to the company to send him to Boxy's location. This leads to Boxy Boo attacking and killing Rowan.

As with every other toy, Boxy Boo was convinced to rebel during the Hour of Joy, during which he started to massacre employees throughout the factory before eating their corpses.

Project: Playtime

In the game, Boxy managed to escape confinement and began targeting a group of workers who were wandering the factory, attempting to assemble a toy before loading it on the train they had arrived in and then leaving.

Poppy Playtime

Although Boxy Boo has yet to make a physical appearance in the present games, he makes a brief cameo in the "Hour of Joy" VHS tape from Chapter 3, where he took part in the massacre by attacking and murdering people in chaos along with other mascots in 1995. His current whereabouts and status are unknown.

Trivia

• It is shown in the camera footage that Boxy was used by Playtime CO. to silence people who could expose them. This makes Boxy the first antagonist to actually both canonically & chronologically help the company.
• If you look closely at the recent Restricted Restoration VHS (Poppy Playtime Chapter 3) video released on the Poppy Playtime Youtube channel, the character Bron is attacked by is Boxy. The claw looks very similar to his and you can hear a sound similar to a jack-in-the-box popping out just as the attack occurs. The scientist in the video later stated that parts of Bron were devoured, similar to Boxy's MO of eating his targets after jumpscaring them. This heavily implies that Boxy will appear in the main game at some point, possibly within Chapter 4 or beyond.
• Kissy Missy screaming at the end of chapter 3 possibly suggests that Boxy was the one who attacked her. This is theoretical, as an indicator for Boxy's presence is his music, which gets faster the closer he is to his target. He’d also make springy sounds before jumping and attacking. However Kissy’s unknown attacker remained entirely silent.
