~ "Robbin' Big" Jack Horner. |
"Robbin' Big" Jack Horner is the main antagonist of the novelization of the DreamWorks film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, written by Cala Spinner.
He is the novel's counterpart of Big Jack Horner.
Personality[]
This version of Jack lacks many of the comedic moments that his movie counterpart had throughout the film and is far more sadistic and uncaring in nature.
He shows a complete lack of regard for the lives of all fairy tale creatures, as taking all of the magic would entail taking away their life force, just so long as he could have complete control over the world.
Also unlike in the movie, where the deaths of his men were entirely accidental or as a result of his carelessness, Jack is also shown to be abusive towards them. He goes as far as burning them alive or whipping them for fun.
Biography[]
According to Jack, he started out as a lonely baker's boy whose definition of happiness was destroying the happiness and dreams of others. Desiring to claim the Last Wish and use it to claim all the magic in the world for himself, he is fully aware that this would be catastrophic towards all magical creatures, including Puss in Boots and Kitty Softpaws who would be rendered feral alley cats, but he is uncaring about it. Upon getting the map stolen, he assembles his Baker's Dozen to go after Puss.
Much like the film, Jack is abusive towards his Baker's Dozen, burning one with the phoenix he captured when he couldn't bother shooting around him. He also savagely beats his other minions until they all end up dead. Eventually arriving to the site, Jack fights Puss in Boots and the others for the ownership of the Last Wish. Unlike the film version where the Ethical Bug and phoenix burn a section of the scroll, the Ethical Bug instead swipes the remaining piece leading to Jack being crushed underneath the weight of the collapsing star. He mockingly calls out to the Ethical Bug reminding him that they "were friends."
Trivia[]
- Many of Robbin' Big Jack Horner's lines come from early drafts of the script which John Mulaney voiced, though several parts of them are cut from the movie.
