Bib Fortuna is the majordomo of Tatooine crime lord Jabba the Hutt. He is a minor antagonist in the Star Wars franchise, serving as a minor antagonist in Return of the Jedi and The Book of Boba.
Biography[]
A male Twi'lek, Bib Fortuna hailed from Ryloth, the homeworld of his species. Fortuna was born to a prominent clan that had close ties to the criminal underworld, though his more politically minded cousin Beezer resented his family's associations. Before coming into the service of Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, Fortuna worked as a slave trader, one who was focused on members of his own species. He became rich from selling his fellow Twi'leks into slavery. At some point, Fortuna came into Jabba's service and competed against Bidlo Kwerve to become the Hutt's majordomo. Fortuna also gave Jabba his pet rancor Pateesa as a birthday present. Ultimately, Fortuna succeeded and claimed the job whereas Kwerve ended up as an early victim of the rancor.
The Phantom Menace[]
He served as Jabba's majordomo as far back as the time of the Invasion of Naboo, in 32 BBY. That year, Fortuna attended the Boonta Eve Classic, which his master hosted to commemorate the Boonta Eve holiday. From his master's private balcony, he watch slave boy Anakin Skywalker defeat the champion of the race Sebulba. As the Hutt was not interested in podracing aside from the gambling aspect of the sport, Jabba fell asleep before the end of the race, forcing Fortuna to wake him up in order to announce the ending.
Return of the Jedi[]
Bib Fortuna at some point during the Galactic Civil War greeted two visiting droids to Jabba's Palace.The droids in question were C3-PO and R2-D2, they claimed they had a gift for Jabba.The majordomo demanded that they hand over that gift to him so he could bring it to Jabba himself, the droids stated they were ordered to give it only to Jabba only.Fortuna relented, and led the droids into the throne room.Once there they delivered the holographic message from their own, the hero Luke Skywalker.In the message, Luke offered the droids to bargain for Han Solo's life.
Fortuna was present when Princess Leia Organa disguised as bounty hunter Boushh.She brought Chewbacca in chains and demanded a higher payment for him, under threat of a thermal detonator.Later that same night, Fortuna was hiding with Jabba as part of his plan to capture Leia when she attempted to free Han on her own.Jabba sent Solo to the dungeons, and enslaved Princess Leia Organa.
The next morning, Luke arrived to save his friends.Fortuna attempted to stop Luke from entering the audience chamber.Luke however, used a jedi mind trick to influence his mind, although he wasn't as weak minded as Jabba's other guards.The mind trick only succeeded by finding and exploiting Fortuna's weak point, his loyalty to the Hutt.Fortuna woke up Jabba, and introduced Luke Skywalker.Mad at the fact Luke manipulated Fortuna, he pushed him off his dais.Negotitations became more tense, Jabba made Luke drop into the rancor pit to be executed.
Luke Skywalker managed to kill the rancor, and got imprisoned and sentenced to death, with Jabba wanting to execute him at the Great Pit of Carkoon, Fortuna attended with Jabba and many of his palace denizens to the pit.Once there, the rebels escaped from execution, killed Jabba, and blew up his sail barge.Fortuna was presumed dead in the explosion, but the majordomo survived the battle.
Book of Boba Fett[]
After Princess Leia killed Jabba the Hutt he took over as the head of the criminal empire, and has amassed servants and slaves for himself, and became just like his deceased master, an obese, crime lord.Years into his reign, after the second rescue of Grogu, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand arrived at Jabba's former palace, killed Bib Fortuna's guards and freed a slave.The Majordomo greeted Boba Fett and said he thought he was dead, and heard many rumors about him.Fett shot Fortuna, killing him and took his throne as his own.After Fortuna's demise, Boba Fett visited the vassals of Jabba the Hutt, and Bib to continue the planet Tatooines criminal underworld.Boba Fett wanted to rule with respect and not fear, unlike Jabba and Fortuna.According to Shand, Bib Fortuna was a horrible leader who didn't have a right to the throne.
