Android 17 is an antagonist-turned-one of the main characters in Dragon Ball. He is an android created by Dr. Gero. He has long dark hair and wears a red scarf on his neck. Unlike Androids 1, 2, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 19, 17 and his twin sister 18 were originally humans turned into androids by Dr. Gero. It was later revealed by Akira Toriyama that his true name is Lapis.
He is one of the two secondary antagonists in the Android Saga and an anti-hero in the Imperfect Cell Saga of Dragon Ball Z. While his future counterpart is the main villain in the history of Trunks special and in GT, he becomes Super 17 the main antagonist of the saga of the same name. He was shown donating energy to Goku's Spirit Bomb aimed at Super Buu in ninth and final season of Dragon Ball Z. Late in Dragon Ball Super, he works as a park ranger who protects wildlife from poaching, honoring his destroyed animal loving friend, Android 16. He accepted the offer to participate in the Tournament of Power among the multiverse's mightiest warriors, and wished for all the universes destroyed by Zen-oh to be restored after being the last fighter standing.
He was voiced by Shigeru Nakahara in the Japanese version of the anime, and Chuck Huber in the English version, the latter of whom also voices Hiei.
