Andrew "Andy" Graves is the titular main protagonist of the psychological black comedy-horror RPG Maker game The Coffin of Andy and Leyley. He is the older brother of Ashley Graves and the subject of her manipulation.
Biography[]
Past[]
Andrew was born in an unspecified year in an unspecified country to Mr. and Mrs. Graves. Due to his docile personality, Mrs. Graves thought it would be easy on her parenting to have a second child, which would lead to her birth of Andrew's sister Ashley. Unfortunately, Ashley's loud and abrasive personality was a hassle to deal with. This led to the beginning of Mr. and Mrs. Graves neglecting their children, leading to Andrew and Ashley developing extremely nihilistic, narcissistic and sociopathic traits.
One day when the siblings were seven and five years old respectively, Andrew was pressured by Ashley to prank their friend Nina by locking her in a wooden chest while the three were playing hide and seek. Although reluctant to carry out the act, Andrew went along with it after being manipulated by Ashley's crying. The following day, the children returned to the warehouse and found Nina dead from an asthma attack and dust inhalation, forcing the two to bury her body in a nearby park to hide it. Although Ashley would taunt a remorseful Andrew about the tragic event, he shut her up at knifepoint and made her promise to never talk about the incident with anyone.
Mrs. Graves eventually discovered the truth, but out of love for her children, she decided against reporting it to the authorities. However, from that point onwards, Mr. and Mrs. Graves became increasingly neglectful of their children, forcing Andrew to look out for his little sister on his own. The following decade led to the siblings growing increasingly attached to each other, while becoming more and more hostile towards their apathetic parents.
Episode 1: The Coffin[]
Many years later, Ashley and Andrew are now living in a filthy apartment with their parents, until the buildings water supply is infected with a virus leading to the buildings quarantine, their parents escape the quarantine due to not having consumed any of the contaminated water, but the siblings are forced to stay. Ashley and her brother are starved inside the building due to their food supplies running out and the guards not giving them any food, that is until their neighbor dies during a botched demonic summoning. Ashley again pressures Andrew into helping her chop up the neighbor's body so they could both eat him. When the guards finally notice the neighbor is missing, she is getting attacked but the guard is killed by Andrew before she is hurt.
Andrew and his sister now plan to escape but during their attempt end up killing the other guard inside the apartment by sacrificing him to a demonic entity. The siblings both escape the apartment complex and go into the city as criminals running from the law with a now uncertain future ahead of them.
Episode 2: Graves[]
TBA
Episode 3:[]
Decay[]
Considered as the worst outcome in the game where the siblings kill one or the other in a style of Cain and Abel; Andrew is enraged by Ashley's manipulation and Mrs. Graves' demise, he wields a butcher knife attached his sister's neck, killing her. If he shoots the assassin with one bullet in the second episode, Ashley shoots Andrew in the head in self-defense.
Burial[]
Considered as a tamest but far more polarizing and controversial outcome in the game is the "sibling's love" route, where it comes from the vision Andrew and his sister pretended to improve their relationship and they were making love.
Probably the best outcome in the game is the "sane" route, where that vision does not occur.
Personality[]
Andrew has a toxic, codependent relationship with his sister: they enable each other in their insanity which very often borders on its extreme nature such as threatening or actual violence, lengthy conversations about suicide, murder, assault and battery, incestuous feelings, cannibalism, etc.
In the game, his behavior is often times sardonic and cynical, often replying sarcastically or in an exasperated manner. He finds his sister frustrating to converse with, and his being held captive with her only makes this resentment grow. Despite this, Andrew can be seen engaging in malicious collusion with her and they both collaborate to murder and take advantage of the various secondary characters to escape and survive.
Although many times throughout history, it is shown that he often questions himself about certain actions he does, or even looks horrified by what he does or what his sister do, showing that, unlike his sister, he is not apathetic to what he is doing. Andrew can also show love, like how he had a girlfriend named Julia, but due to her sister wanting him for herself, she threated her life which caused her to broke up with Andrew.
Trivia[]
- Andrew Graves, along with his sister Ashley, were compared to another main protagonists Sweeney Todd and Nellie Lovett, both portrayed in the musical and film adaptation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street due to nearly similarities and traits:
- They were in-practical of murderous nature at the beginning.
- They were on-and-off romantic relationship: Lovett seems had a crush on Sweeney Todd but the latter against its relationship, while Ashley had a crush on Andrew; in that case, they are predicted to have sex for the first time in the final episode, although it was only a vision.
- Ashley and Lovett are known of their cooking skills through human meat, while Andrew (butcher knife) and Sweeney Todd (razor) are sharp hand-weapon users.
- Their appearances were nearly similar due to their unlikely attractiveness, pale skin, and messy dark hair.
