The Alien Beast is a worst minor character in Drew Goddard's 2012 horror film The Cabin in the Woods.
It is one of the Monsters held in The Facility. It was listed on the whiteboard and was bet on by the Bio Medical Department. It was later released during the second wave of the System Purge, and was seen once.
Physical Description and Attributes[]
This monster is of an extraterrestrial origin, and is complex in physical structure; Its torso its long and thin and ends in what looks like a tail instead of legs. Its "back" is hunched over, and there are what appear to be extra limbs hanging from the side of it. Its face, when closed, is smooth and is similar to that of a shell or armor plating. There are two joints protruding from the side of it, where its long and pale-colored eyes end. When its face is opened, it splits open into four ways, revealing a pink and fleshy interior. Each of the flaps on its face have patches of long, pointy teeth. In the center of its face is most-likely its mouth- a round and gaping hole. The Alien Beast does not appear to have any legs. The only time we see it on screen is when it jumps out of its elevator to attack a security guard, so we can assume that it moves by crawling or flotation. In addition, the Alien Beast is shot in that scene, revealing yellow, gooey blood.
It is unknown what item summons the Alien Beast from the cellar, but it could be assumed that any array of alien-like or extraterrestrial artifacts might be the most logical.
Appearances[]
As mentioned above, the Alien Beast was only seen once during the system purge- when the second wave of Monsters are released and there is a quick scene of it jumping onto a security guard which makes them both fall to the ground. The Alien Beast is not seen again at any point in the film after this.
In the novelization of the film, the Alien Beast appears during the scene where Dana and Marty are in the elevator, right after seeing the Werewolf- rising upwards from behind them. The inclusion of the Alien Beast in the scene was apparently supposed to carry on into the film based on behind the scenes footage, however its appearance was cut in the final version.
Inspiration[]
The Alien Beast is likely an homage to the "Facehugger" life cycle stage of the Xenomorph species in the Alien franchise, originally designed by H. R. Giger.
