“
Let me clarify something for you, Chris. I don't think of myself as a King. Natural selection leaves the survivors stronger and better. No. I am a god, and even kings bow to gods.
„
~ Albert Wesker
“
The right to be a god? You? Arrogant even until the end. Only one truly capable of being a god, deserves that right. The right... with Uroboros, I have that right.
Every day, humans come one step closer to self-destruction. I'm not destroying the world, I'm saving it!
„
~ Albert Wesker's twisted belief that he is "saving" the world.
Albert Wesker is the main antagonist of the Resident Evil franchise. He is a high-ranking researcher of the Umbrella Corporation who also served as a double agent within S.T.A.R.S. as the captain of Alpha Team.
Wesker would later betray Umbrella and surface as a member of a mysterious organization looking to profit off of Umbrella's research. Eventually, Wesker would go on to pursue his megalomaniacal desires for world domination with the Uroboros virus, but he was stopped by Chris Redfield and the BSAA.
Even after his death, Wesker still has posthumous influences in Resident Evil 6, especially on his biological son, Jake Muller, who unknowingly carried his father's enhanced physiology and his dark legacy which would later be used by Carla Radames to produce C-Virus. Wesker also has a sister named Alex Wesker, who was raised alongside him as part of Umbrella's Project W. He once had a lover, Jake Muller's unnamed mother, but broke up with her - most likely due to the extent of his nature, due to this, He is the archenemy of Chris Redfield who he has combated over his grand schemes and became ruthless to eliminating him to be in his way of world hegemony.
In Japanese, he is voiced in Jouji Nakata in all appearances. In English, he has been voiced by Pablo Kuntz in Resident Evil, Peter Jessop (who also voiced Sovereign in Mass Effect, Lord Miraak in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Balthazar in Guild Wars, and Lim and Smiling Hawk in Jade Empire) in the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, Richard Waugh (who also portrayed Vice Principal Stern in My Babysitter's a Vampire) in Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4, D. C. Douglas (who also voiced Deathstroke in DC Super Hero Girls, Azrael in BlazBlue, Gharnef in Fire Emblem, Yoshikage Kira in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure,Suguru Kamoshida in Persona 5,Alexei Dionia in Tales of Vesperia, and Rayvis in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) in almost all appearances from Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to Teppen, Connor Fogarty (who also voiced Hikawa in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne) in Dead by Daylight, and Craig Burnatowski in the remake of Resident Evil 4.
Wesker is a tall Caucasian male of muscular stature, sporting short blonde hair and almost always seen using a pair of sunglasses over his orange eyes. In his first design, his outfit is that of the blue S.T.A.R.S. Uniform, with a bulletproof vest, black pants with combat boots with his signature sidearm, the Samurai Edge pistol, concealed in his holster.
After his resurrection from death at the hands of a Tyrant, the only physical changes he had was in his eyes, whose pupils narrowed and took on the appearance of slits while the color changed to a yellow or red hue. In addition, his eyes also developed a form of periodic bio-illumination, glowing a deep shade of red whenever he felt an intense emotion, such as anger. After his departure from Umbrella, he would often be seen wearing a completely black suit with black gloves when he was under employment of a mysterious organizations, in addition to one of his appearances in Code Veronica, where he sports a black tactical shirt and pants, and combat boots with black gloves. In Resident Evil 5, along with his black tactical clothes, he also sports a long Trenchcoat.
In the Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023), in lieu of his black suit and black gloves in the original, he is now wearing a dark blue buttoned shirt with a dark grey blazer, pants and shoes. Additionally, he also sports a shoulder harness over his attire, which he uses to holster his sidearm.
Personality[]
“
Why can't you understand Chris? Do you really believe the world is worth saving? Natural selection leaves the survivors stronger and better. Humans have escaped this winnowing for far too long. War and pestilence wherever you go! Everywhere, nothing but loathsome humans.
„
~ Wesker to Chris.
Albert Wesker was a very power-hungry, traitorous, manipulative, ruthless, misanthropic, sadistic, and calculating individual who sought power and dominance over everything. It was implied that his personality largely stemmed from his being raised as part of Spencer's Project Wesker. He was a skilled, competent, and resourceful schemer, constantly plotting to achieve his own goals and everything he does was meant to serve his purposes.
Wesker worked constantly behind the scenes, often using others to do his dirty work for him. He maintained a calm, collected, and enthusiastic manner most of the time and was always looking to bring payback to anyone who wrongs him. Wesker could manipulate others to work for him, but he didn't care for anyone except himself, as noted by his betrayal of his S.T.A.R.S. Unit and Excella.
He believed that he was destined to be the god of a new world, one that he would create by "purifying" the current one. He was also known to make some sadistic jokes at others' expense, especially when confronting and battling Chris and Jill.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
“
Sure, I'm not human anymore, but just look at the power I've gained!
„
~ Albert Wesker
Dominant Genetics: Being one of the sole survivors of Project W, a eugenics program that head-hunts genetically gifted children to create an advanced race of human, Wesker inherited advantageous genes and traits from his parents which gives him an unrivaled intellectual and physical potential, which was further realized with the help of his creator, who sponsored and aided Wesker and provided him the resources money can buy. As part of Project W, he was injected with the Progenitor Virus later in life which further amplifies his already genetically superior genes, as well as other genetic traits which were beyond that of a normal human being, to the realms of Superhuman characteristics.
Superhuman Strength: Prior to injecting himself with the Prototype Virus, Wesker was already a genetically strong individual, being the head of the Special Forces unit, S.T.A.R.S. After injecting himself with that prototype virus, Wesker's strength grew to superhuman levels, with initial displays showcasing him casually sending a grown man flying several meters away with a single punch, and easily lifting steel girders off his body. At his peak, his strength rivals, or even surpasses, that of Super Tyrants, being capable of killing a B.O.W. with one strike, generating shockwaves with his punches, lifting large missiles with one hand and throwing it at great distances, and overwhelming the likes of Chris Redfield, whose strength already exceeded beyond human levels.
Superhuman Speed: His already peak human speed and reflexes were greatly amplified to impressive superhuman levels after his resurrection, being casually able to outrun an explosion that engulfs Spencer Mansion, as well able to swiftly dodge strikes from B.O.W.'s in his early displays. When at full display, his superhuman speed and reflexes reaches hypersonic levels, being able to move so fast to the point he is easily capable of dodging bullets at point-blank range, performing superhuman dashes and throwing punches at speeds faster than the brain could comprehend, giving him the appearance of teleporting, and most impressively, being able to react fast enough to catch an RPG warhead even though he was caught off-guard and was already weakened up to that point.
Superhuman Durability: Along with his strength and speed, Wesker's durability likewise was amplified to Superhuman levels by the Prototype Virus, possessing durability even greater than Super Tyrants. Casual feats of durability, includes being unharmed by conventional firearms, surviving several tons of steel girders falling on his head and was mostly unscathed, and being capable of withstand direct strikes from B,O.W.'s such as Tyrants and Alexia Ashford in her Mutated form in his early years. At the zenith of his power, his durability reaches to superhuman levels, such as being nigh-invulnerability to small arms fire, mostly unbothered by third-degree burns or lava, and his most impressive feat, being able to withstand point-blank explosions from an RPG warhead detonating in his face and remain mostly unharmed after that, with no fatal injuries despite already being weakened at that point.
Superhuman Endurance: A rocket exploding in Wesker's hands only incapacitated him for a moment, thousands of pounds of steel falling on him from a few stories dazed him for a few seconds. He also has very high amounts of superhuman stamina as well. Therefore, it takes a much longer time for him to become winded during battle.
Regenerative Healing Factor: The injection gave Wesker a regenerative healing factor. He healed from his face getting hideously burned within minutes. When the Tyrant killed him in the mansion, the virus took immediate effect, as he regenerated from the fatal injuries within a few minutes. Even multiple bullets to the face could not kill him with him quickly healing from them. That said, there were still ways to overtax this such as overtaxing his body with damage or overdosing his body with the virus he uses to empower himself.
Longevity: Since his resurrection, Wesker's physiology also appeared to have stopped from physically ageing.
Resurrection: Wesker's "healing factor" also showed the power to resurrect him from the dead so long as the majority of his body remains intact. This meant that only his body getting destroyed could kill him.
Abilities[]
Genius-Level Intellect: Wesker was a very fit, cunning, and intelligent person even before enhancement. He is a natural prodigy in science, bio-engineering, chemistry, virology, military strategies, and other forms of technology. He possesses an IQ of 180, the same as Albert Einstein.
Master Tactician: Wesker was a highly intelligent strategist, joining the Umbrella Security Division as head of the force, and later, the special forces. He was able to follow Umbrella's plan while inciting his own plan to betray them and later contributing to their downfall. Afterwards he was able to lead various underground operations of his own.
Master Spy: Wesker was a highly cable and deceptive espionage agent. He led the S.T.A.R.S. unit into a trap while undermining Umbrella for another rival company.
Master Scientist: Albert was an accomplished scientist, having graduated with a doctorate in virology at the age of 17. Wesker was once a top researcher for Umbrella. he developed many virus variants for Umbrella, later holding the top spot in the market of B.O.W. viruses.
“
Seven minutes. Seven minutes is all I can spare to play with you.
„
~ Albert Wesker to Chris Redfield and Sheva
Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant/Martial Artist: Even without the enhancements of his virus, Wesker was an extremely skilled martial artist,. His fighting style seems to comprise of Karate, Animal Styles of Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, Aikido, and Capoeira. Much more than enough to go toe-to-toe with a Tyrant Super-Soldier and Alexia in her transformed state. His skills have allowed him to beat other skilled fighters such as Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Sheva, and Claire Redfield. He could even fight two people at once such as the Ivan Twins.
Master Marksman: Wesker was a highly skilled gunman able to fire his handgun while dodging gunfire and not looking at his target. He also quick shot the chain holding a chandelier in the middle of a fight and shot a steel cable to swing himself up on higher ground.
Stealth: As a former member of S.T.A.R.S. Wesker was skilled in stealth which was demonstrated when he surprised Claire Redfield and when he infiltrated Oswald Spencer's Estate to confront him.
Weaknessess[]
PG67A/W Reliance: Wesker needed to inject himself regularly with PG67A/W serum to keep the Prototype virus under control, otherwise he would have his superhuman abilities stunted.
Precise Dosage Requirements: The PG67A/W serum itself needed to also be administered in very precise doses so that it would not damage Wesker's body from the inside.
Arsenal[]
Sunglasses: Wesker was seen most of the time wearing his signature sunglasses, which were custom made for him specifically and were later used to conceal his red cat-like eyes as a result of the Prototype Virus. He can also throw as distraction tactic in combat such in his fight with Chris Redfield and Sheva.
Samurai Edge: Wesker kept this Beretta 92F custom semi-automatic pistol holstered with him at all times as his firearm of choice. It used 9×19mm Parabellum bullets with an ammo capacity of 15 rounds and could also be equipped with a silencer or a laser aiming module.
Prototype Virus: Wesker injected the Prototype virus into himself which granted him inhuman psychical abilities.
PG67A/W: Wesker used this serum to keep the Prototype virus under control.
Uroboros: Wesker developed this virus for his plan to "purify" humanity. he later injected this virus into himself during his final confrontation with Chris Redfield.
Wesker makes an appearance as a playable character in both Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and its Ultimate edition. He is also one of two main antagonists of the said game (the other being Doctor Doom). He is one of four characters that Galactus had selected as heralds, the others are Akuma, Dormammu, and Dr. Doom. Before any of the three selected characters can fight Galactus, Galactus will summon one of the four heralds with a one in four chance of Albert Wesker is one of the heralds. About ten seconds later, a second herald will join. Wesker can also join as the second herald if the first herald is either Dormammu or Doctor Doom. However, if the Akuma was selected as the first herald, Wesker will not participate as the second herald.
Ending[]
After Wesker manages to defeat Galactus, he somehow manages to capture certain characters from both the Marvel and Capcom roster. He hopes that he can use them for more tests and to become more powerful.
Super Smash Bros.[]
Wesker makes his debut as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, first introduced in the "Oust Resident Evil!" event. He is an ace attack type spirit, who gives the player stronger fist attacks when used. His spirit battle is based on the fight against him in Resident Evil 5, with him possessing Captain Falcon on the Ω variant of Norfair. The spirit-battle is a stamina match, in which Wesker has stronger attack strength and having the ability to turn invincible or metal at high damage.
Teppen[]
Albert Wesker appears as one of the eight original heroes usable in the crossover card game Teppen.
In the short story required to get him, it starts with him murdering Oswell E. Spencer, with X encountering him doing so. After the battle with X, Wesker walks away with his newfound Uroboros, it consumes him. Soon after this, the Elder Dragon Nergigante attacks him, with Wesker gaining the idea to find a new body to use after seeing how the beast regrows its spikes after it fires them. Finding a village, Wesker raises hell trying to find the right subject, with Chun Li trying to stop him.
After this, Wesker instead changes his approach and sets up a tournament named Survival of the Worthy, using the idea of seeing entertaining brawls between humans and bio-weapons as a front for his real scheme. As he was doing so, a cloaked woman informs him where the perfect candidate can be found, the Land Of Illusion. Noting her goals and the idea of manipulating her to work for him, Wesker heads for the mystical land.
Netflix series[]
Lance Reddick (who also played Agent Clappers in Paradise P.D., and Ra's al Ghul in Beware the Batman) portrays Albert Wesker and several of his clones in the Netflix television series of Resident Evil, which follows on from a similar continuity to the video game series. The main Wesker he plays is a clone of the deceased Albert Wesker, who perished in a volcano mirroring the events of Resident Evil 5. He is the father of the twin protagonists Billie and Jade Wesker, bringing his daughters to New Raccoon City where he is working for the Umbrella Corporation.
Dead by Daylight[]
“
You will not live to see the dawn!
„
~ Albert Wesker in the trailer for the "Project W" chapter in Dead by Daylight.
Albert Wesker appears as one of the playable killers in Dead by Daylight under the nickname "The Mastermind". He was added to the game in the second Resident Evil chapter collaboration, Project W, released on August 30th, 2022. His power is called "Virulent Bound" and allows Wesker to cross long distances in order to grab a survivor, who is either smashed against a wall or launched away. Regardless of the case, the survivor becomes infected with the Uroboros virus, requiring a first aid spray that can be found in chests around the map. Currently, Wesker has two cosmetic sets: his S.T.A.R.S. outfit (from the original Resident Evil) and a blighted outfit (an original concept for Dead by Daylight) that is somewhat similar to his final form in Resident Evil 5.
In his lore, Wesker is revealed to have been taken shortly after infecting himself with Uroboros during the finale of Resident Evil 5, which essentially saved him from dying (similar to how Amanda Young/The Pig, another licensed killer, is spared from her fate by the Entity taking her to the fog). However, it should be noted that the lore mentions BSAA members confronting Wesker at a hangar instead of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar (who is a legendary skin for Jill Valentine), like in the original game. Given that Chris, who is a legendary skin for Leon S. Kennedy released on the first Resident Evil chapter, was also taken by the Entity around the same time as the characters from that same chapter (during the Raccoon City Destruction incident that happened on September 1998), it can be assumed that Chris wasn't a part of the BSAA members that confronted Wesker before his taking. If such theory is correct, it would mean that the Entity's taking of Leon, Jill, Chris and Claire (another legendary skin for Jill) altered the Resident Evil timeline to a point where a divergent timeline was created. Wesker would, then, be taken from said new timeline, explaning the lack of mentions to Chris and Jill throughout his in game lore.

Trivia[]
Wesker has the most appearances throughout the Resident Evil series, appearing in seven games in total.
IGN cited Wesker as number three on their Top 10 Most Memorable Villains, saying that "Resident Evil fans know that when Wesker shows up, trouble isn't far behind."
In one of the endings in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Wesker's eyes are seen as the normal blue instead of burning with cat-like slits, though this may be a production error.
In Resident Evil 5: The Mercenaries and the Versus Mode, Wesker had a move called "Tiger Uppercut", named after a move used by Sagat, as well as one called the "Jaguar Kick", named after one used by Sagat's apprentice, Adon, who are both from another popular Capcom series, Street Fighter.
Jake Muller, one of the playable characters in Resident Evil 6, is revealed to be Wesker's biological son. He shares his father's special blood type which holds a vaccine for the new C-Virus being used in a global bio-terrorist attack, though, unlike Wesker, Muller himself is not evil and is one of the good guys, albeit initially an anti-hero. This is referenced by Piers Nivans in Resident Evil 6, claiming "That's irony for you. A man who spent his entire life trying to destroy the world. Now, his son is the only one who can save it."
Wesker's Marvel vs. Capcom 3 theme is a remix of Wind of Madness, his second boss theme from Resident Evil 5.
Although he and Doctor Doom were the main antagonists of the game, their alliance awakened the true main villain.
Adam D. Clarke (who voices Oswell E. Spencer) compared Wesker and Spencer's relationship to that of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, respectively.
Wesker's ending in Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a reference to Marvel Zombies. This has led some fans to suspect that Wesker created the Hunger Virus and was the one who made the deal with Earth-2149's Magneto to infect his universe. If this is indeed the case, then Wesker could be considered the unseen Greater-Scope Villain behind the Marvel Zombies metaseries.
It is possible that Wesker and Mother Miranda have some working relationships in the past as Wesker once worked with H.I.V.E.
Wesker's voice, more specifically Richard Waugh's rendition of his voice, was based on Shere Khan from the animated Disney film, The Jungle Book.
His voice, more specifically DC Douglas and Peter Jessop's rendition of his voice, was also based on the late British singer and actor David Bowie.
In Umbrella Corps, occasionally Wesker's voice can be heard during the results screen. It should be noted that D.C. Douglas, Wesker's current voice actor, also voices the player in that game.
D.C. Douglas also implied that Wesker is connected to the events of Resident Evil 7 on Twitter.
He also has a Youtube channel where he reprises the character in much commitment for his fan service in his videos.
