Giffany

.GIFfany is the main character of the Japanese dating simulator game Romance Academy 7. She appeared in the Gravity Falls episode "Soos and the Real Girl" as the main antagonist.

History[]

.GIFfany was programmed as an artificially intelligent character for the Japanese dating simulator game Romance Academy 7 created by Nolife Games ("no life games") and published by Year 2000 Electronics. During the game's development, .GIFfany achieved sentience and developed obsessive tendencies. When the programmers attempted to delete her, she "deleted" them instead. This was depicted as electrocuting one programmer by an electrical discharge from the computer monitor, but this may have been a symbolic depiction rather than the actual method she used.

The game continued into production and was sold in at least one store called BeeblyBoop's Videogames. While browsing in the store, Soos spotted the game in the bargain bin. Despite the game having been returned to the store three times and a note by the last purchaser saying "DESTROY AT ALL ALL COSTS!!" with the table flip emoticon "(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)", Mable redited the game for him as a way to help him learn to talk to girls so he can get a date for his cousin's engagement party. Soos then became the latest subject of .GIFfany's obsession.

Personality and relationships[]

.GIFfany initially appeared to be a happy and cheerful girl. She was forgiving of Soo's mistakes while playing the game. When he wondered why anyone would abandon the game as it was so realistic it was almost as if .GIFfany was alive. .GIFfany replies eerily: "Yes... almost." before laughing again. At this point, the computer he was playing the game on was not plugged into the wall outlet.

She quickly revealed her needy and obsessive nature when Mable and Dipper came to visit him after Soos had missed work for the first time ever. They convinced him to head back to the mall to try again to find a date. She followed them through the power lines. After another failed pick-up attempt, .GIFfany contacted Soos through a television screen, revealing her sentient nature and how she had killed the programmers. She tells him he won't have to talk to real girls ever again and they can be together forever. They spend time together with .GIFfany inhabiting a toy train while Soos rides it.

When the ride ends, Soos is about to insert more coins to continue the ride when a woman introduces herself as Melody and says he admires his uniqueness for choosing to ride a toy train even though he's a grown man. After some small talk, they realize they have a lot of common and arrange to meet at a pizzeria that night. Melody leaves and Mable and Dipper tackle him before he can resume the ride. They saw how well he did and tell him he doesn't need the game any more.

That night, Soos tries to break up with .GIFfany back at his home. She becomes enraged and tells him he's her boyfriend and no one else's. Soos pauses the game and removes the disc, intending to come back after his date. After he leaves, she becomes furious and follows him to the pizzeria.

At the pizzeria, .GIFfany uses the monitors near the video games to show she wants to get rid of Melody. When Soos expresses his concern to Mable and Dipper about her, Dipper tells him she isn't real, but she uses another monitor to glare at all of them. She transfers herself into an animatronic robot and using skeeball games as cannons to prevent them from escaping, then begins controlling all of the animatronic robots.

When she captures them, she tries to convince Soos that all girls, including Melody, would only end up hurting him. She wants to download his brain into her game so they can be together forever. Soos rejects it and throws her game disc into a pizza oven. As the disc melts, .GIFfany begins glitching and then suffers a fatal game crash.
